The Petrosyan vs. Petchyindee kickboxing bout from ONE Championship: Enter the Dragon has had its result overturned, and a rematch is pending.
ONE Championship officials apparently didn’t like what they saw in the kickboxing grand prix quarter final between Giorgio Petrosyan and Petchmorrakot Petchyindee Academy at Enter the Dragon last week. The kickboxing match ended in a split decision win for Petchyindee. At least originally. However, ONE’s “Competition Committee” subsequently reviewed the match, and has overturn the result to a No Contest.
ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong announced the news on social media on Wednesday.
“ONE Championship has conducted an official review of the controversial bout between Giorgio Petrosyan and Petchmorrakot Petchyindee at ONE: Enter The Dragon in Singapore. In fairness to all parties, the ONE Competition Committee has formally declared the bout a no contest,” Sityodtong said in a statement to Facebook. “The referee did not adequately control the illegal clinching, resulting in multiple infractions during the bout.”
As a result, “there will be an automatic rematch with the winner proceeding into the semifinals of the US$1m ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Grand Prix,” the CEO concluded.
Enter the Dragon took place in Kallang, Singapore this past Friday at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. In addition to a main event featuring MMA action with lightweight champ Shinya Aoki falling to Christian Lee, Sage Northcutt found himself on the wrong end of a knockout blow delivered by Cosmo Alexandre. The featherweight kickboxing grand prix also launched — and as well as Petrosyan and Petchyindee going down, Samy Sana defeated Yodsanklai IWE Fairtex, and Smokin’ Jo Nattawut finished Sasha Moisa.
