All the highlights from a night of knockouts, upsets, and even a little bit of controversy at Bellator 221 in Chicago.
Bellator 221 has come and gone, and the solid card on paper most certainly lived up to expectations. Or down to them, in the case of Jack Swagger vs. TJ Jones. In any case, two fights stood out from the pack on the main card of Bellator 221 in Chicago this past Saturday: the main event of Michael Chandler vs. Patricio Pitbull, and the co-main feature, which saw Douglas Lima take on Michael ‘Venom’ Page in a welterweight grand prix semi-final.
In the former, featherweight champ Pitbull shocked Michael Chandler, and the world, with a quick first round knockout. Whether the stoppage was early or not, the result was the same. Pitbull took hold of Chandler’s lightweight title, and is now Bellator MMA’s second simultaneous champ-champ.
Meanwhile, the latter fight saw former welterweight champ Douglas Lima hand MVP the first loss of his career. That knockout came in a hectic early-second round sequence, with Lima catching Page on his way up from a trip/slip.
