The night did not go well for any of them. Alves and Aldo lost decisions. Nogueira was knocked out. Silva fell to injury. All in all, a rough night for the host country, who usually dominates at these sorts of events.
Yet despite all the legendary names (and that included BJ Penn, who lost his seventh straight fight in the UFC on Saturday), it was the ladies topping the card. A strawweight title fight between Rose Namajunas and Jessica Andrade headlined the affair. The first time strawweights had ever topped a PPV card in the UFC. For Namajunas, it was an attempt to defend her title in enemy territory. For Andrade, a chance to do what she could not against now-former champ Joanna Jedrzejczyk.
