The Bellator 221 action kicked off with the preliminary card, featuring Team Alpha Male’s Chris Gonzalez making his Bellator MMA debut.
Bellator was back in action, and back in Chicago for the sixth time Saturday night. Bellator 221 was a tentpole event with a champ vs. champ fight, another step in the welterweight grand prix, another appearance by featherweight phenom A.J. McKee, and the return of former WWE star Jack Swagger (Jake Hager).
The main event grudge match of Michael Chandler vs. Patricio Pitbull, the lightweight champ vs. the featherweight champ with the 155lb belt was must-see TV. So too was Michael Page vs. Dougas Lima, in a fight that was truly must-see TV.
Before the main card action kicked off, however, a preliminary card including Adil Benjilany vs. Cris Lencioni, and Chris Gonzalez of Team Alpha Male, went down.
