UFC 237 is down a fight after the cancellation of Francisco Trinaldo vs. Carlos Diego Ferreira.
This morning’s UFC 237 weigh-in did not go off without a hitch. First, Bethe Correia, the former UFC women’s bantamweight title challenger, badly blew weight, coming in at 141lbs. Next, Francisco Trinaldo vs. Carlos Diego Ferreira was called off completely.
Trinaldo had already hit the scales, making the lightweight limit without any apparent issues. However, Ferreira had yet to weigh in.
MMA Fighting was first to report the news, confirmed by the CABMMA (Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission).
Trinaldo (23-6) has struggled to make it to the octagon this year, through no fault of his own. Bouts with both Islam Makachev and Alexander Hernandez have fallen through for the lightweight so far in 2019.
At 40, Trinaldo’s window in the sport is quickly closing, so every fight matters. He last competed in September 2018, picking up a win over Evan Dunham.
Ferreira (15-2) was entering the fight on a four fight winning streak. He most recently defeated Rustam Khabilov in February. He has not lost a fight since 2015.
The UFC has not yet released an official statement on the cancellation of the bout. UFC 237 takes place Saturday, May 11 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
