Following Li Jingliang pulling out of his bout with Alex Oliveira, Mike Perry has stepped in to face Cowboy at UFC Fort Lauderdale.
Mike Perry hasn’t been seen since his loss to Cowboy Cerrone in November of 2018. However, that soon will change. Li Jingliang and Alex Oliveira were set to fight at UFC Fort Lauderdale on April 27; however, Jingliang got injured and had to pull out of the bout. Following Jingliang’s exit, Perry is set to jump in against his second Cowboy in a row.
This is a nice return fight for Perry, and he needs a win as he has lost three of his last four fights. His last win was over Paul Felder at UFC 226 in July of 2018. Prior to that win, he lost to Max Griffin and Santiago Ponzinibbio. Perry at one time was seen as a bright prospect at 170-pounds, but has faltered as of late. With this fight, he can get back on track.
Alex Oliveira will also attempt to get back on track in April, as he lost his last fight via second-round brutal submission to Gunnar Nelson in December. Prior to that, he won two fights in a row, defeating Carlos Condit and Carlo Pedersoli via submission, last winning in September of 2018. This is Oliveira’s first fight since a grenade incident on Christmas Eve of 2018 which resulted in a required surgery on his leg.
UFC Fort Lauderdale five-round rematch as its main event, with Yoel Romero taking on Jacare Souza. Romero won their first fight in December of 2015 at UFC 194, defeating Souza via controversial split decision. The co-main event of the card is slated to be former NFL All-Pro Greg Hardy in his second UFC fight, taking on the 9-2 Dmitry Smolyakov.
