With yet another opponent change at UFC Philadelphia, it feels as if former flyweight contender Ray Borg just can’t catch a break.
Only days away from, hopefully, returning to the octagon at UFC Philadelphia (UFC on ESPN 2), Ray Borg has suffered a change in opponent for the second time leading up to the fight. The former flyweight title challenger was originally scheduled to face Pingyuan Liu. However, when Liu was forced off the card, Borg was matched up with Kyler Phillips. Now, Phillips is out, and LFA vet Casey Kenney is in.
The change was revealed on the UFC’s official website. No reason was listed for Phillips withdrawal from the bout, which is taking place at bantamweight. At this point, Borg is likely happy just to have a fight against anyone.
Borg (11-3) has not fought since his title challenge loss to Demetrious Johnson at UFC 216 back in 2017. Since then, he has been dealing with significant health issues faced by his infant son, plus a number of fights falling through. Not to mention suffering injuries after being on the bus attacked by Conor McGregor prior to UFC 223 (which led to the cancellation of his fight there).
Casey Kenney (11-1-1), meanwhile, was a two-division champion in LFA. The flyweight and bantamweight double champ has won four straight.
UFC Philadelphia airs this Saturday, live from the Wells Fargo Arena in Philadelphia, PA. Justin Gaethje vs. Edson Barboza headlines the card.
