Throwin’ Elbows MMA 55: Feeling a Bit Grundy

Cageside Press’ Dan Doherty and Heath Harshman recover from a disappointing Bachelor finale and discuss UFC Wichita, Conor smashing phones, and UFC London.

Throwin’ Elbows MMA is a weekly podcast hosted by Cageside Press Senior Editor Dan Doherty and Staff Writer Heath Harshman. Heath also won the staff picks competition two years in a row, but that’s beside the point.

This week, the guys gave their thoughts on UFC Wichita, including trying to decipher the difference between healthy and injured Derrick Lewis, and why Ben Rothwell was not missed during his time off (hint: it’s his ugly fighting style).

From there, it was time for the unofficially named News Articles and Stuff Like That segment. The big news this week, of course, was Conor McGregor smashing a fan’s phone, and while that’s a shame, it’s kinda understandable. In more Conor news, Donald Cerrone revealed that his fight with McGregor isn’t coming to fruition because McGregor insists on being in the main event, which should come to nobody’s surprise. And lastly, Jon Jones may just be the UFC’s only active star.

Next up was a rundown of all the fights announced this week, and reluctantly included was the corpse of BJ Penn fighting once more against Clay Guida. Say it with us: “Erik Koch is better than BJ Penn.” Also touched on are fights from UFC Stockholm, Fort Lauderdale, 238, and the PFL women’s lightweight roster.

Lastly, a quick rundown of UFC London, including Heath’s favorite fight: Joe Duffy vs. Marc Diakiese.
