Dillion Danis will return at Bellator 221 in Chicago this May, taking on promotional newcomer Max Humphrey.
With his suspension sorted out following the melee at UFC 229, Dillon Danis is ready to resume his MMA career. On Monday, Bellator MMA officials announced that Danis (1-0), training partners with Conor McGregor and known for his formidable jiu-jitsu game, would return to action at Bellator 221 against Max Humphrey. The news comes just weeks after Danis accepted a seven-month suspension for his part in the Las Vegas brawl, following the UFC 229 main event between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor.

Danis saw his career stall as a result of that melee. There was a significant question as to whether the controversial BJJ ace should be suspended at all, thanks to comments made by champ Khabib Nurmagomedov. Nurmagomedov flew over the octagon wall to attack Danis at the event. However, while speculation had been that Danis had been heckling the champ, Nurmagomedov later admitted that he had never heard Danis say a word. Instead, he attacked Danis, because McGregor’s other coaches were “too old.”
However, the Nevada Athletic Commission opted to punish Danis for “unsportsmanlike conduct” because he had to be retrained during the incident, and because he used obscene gestures. He was also issued a $7,500 fine.
Danis earned his lone MMA win to date against Kyle Walker at Bellator 198 last April. That will make it over year between fights for ‘El Jefe.’ Bellator 221 takes place May 11 at the Allstate Arena in Chicago.
Max Humphrey (3-2) will be making his Bellator debut in the fight. He’s coming off a loss to Anthony Goldfield in KC Fighting Alliance last year.
