After countless injuries have marred the career of Cain Velasquez, another one contributed to his loss in the main event of UFC Phoenix against Francis Ngannou.
Cain Velasquez will be making his long-awaited return to the Octagon at UFC Phoenix after last appearing at UFC 200 in July 2016. In that fight, Velasquez looked like his old self by decimating Travis Browne in the first round. However, that was only his second fight since 2013, as injuries have ravaged the career of a man who seemed destined to be an all-time great. Velasquez is 14-2 in his career with 14 of those fights taking place in the Octagon. The two-time champion has two title defenses to his name.
Francis Ngannou is looking to get back to the top of the ladder after a one-sided loss to then-champion Stipe Miocic followed by an uneventful loss to Derrick Lewis. A 45-second knockout victory against Curtis Blaydes proved Ngannou is a force to be reckoned with still, as that was his seventh win and seventh finish in his UFC career.
Francis Ngannou came out like a bullet, and started throwing everything and the kitchen sink at Cain Velasquez. Velasquez came out and tried some kicks to the body, it looked like Cain was going to shoot for a takedown, and as he was doing so, his knee gave out and Cain went down. Francis jumped in and landed some big shots and that was all she wrote.
A tremendous win for Francis Ngannou, and also a possible unfortunate end to an amazing career for Cain Velasquez.
