While heavyweights topped the Bellator 215 card, it was women’s atomweights and featherweights who promised plenty of action on the prelims Friday night.
The first of two back-to-back events going down in Connecticut this weekend, Bellator 215 brought with it heavyweights scrapping in the main event, and a huge roster of prospects, up-and-comers, and plenty of prelim action. Among the notable names fighting early on Friday, Amanda Bell and Amber Leibrock. Part of the promotion’s featherweight division, both ladies could inch closer to a shot at Julia Budd and the title with a win. Though Olga Rubin, undefeated at 5-0, was perhaps the front runner, the division, frankly, is wide open.
Meaning a strong performance from either Bell or Leibrock could put them just a fight away from a shot at gold.
Also on the Bellator 215 prelim card, women’s atomweight action between Lindsey VanZandt and Tabatha Watkins. Atomweight remains the one women’s division untouched by the major North American MMA promotions outside of Invicta, and the inclusion of a fight at 105lbs in Bellator on Friday could be a sign of things to come.
