In a performance that certainly turned a lot of heads, Santiago Ponzinibbio got the pros talking when he face-planted Neil Magny at UFC Argentina.
Santiago Ponzinibbio was on a six fight win streak heading into UFC Argentina, where he headlined the card in his home country. Poised to make the jump into title contention, Ponzinibbio had the tough, gutsy Neil Magny standing in his way between him and a step closer to gold. Not to mention making history as the first man to win a main event in Argentina.
In the end, Ponzinibbio left nothing to chance. Never taking his foot of the pedal, he absolutely mauled Magny through the better part of four rounds. Chopping at the lanky American’s legs, it wasn’t long before Magny was literally hopping. Worse, he wound up with an irritated eye off the very first punch. Magny would spend the remainder of the fight pawing at his eye and trying to protect his leg, which kept him from giving much thought to offense.
In the fourth, leg kicks dropped him three times. Ref Herb Dean warned him to fight back. Magny did — only to eat a right hand that sent him crashing to the canvas, where he face planted.
Ponzinibbio had the win, his seventh in a row. He called for a title shot in 2019, and while it might not happen before at least one more win, his name is certainly in the hat.
Fans weren’t the only one impressed by the Argentinian on Saturday night. See the pros react to Ponzinibbio’s big finish at UFC Argentina below!

Ponzinibbio's team: "Let's beat up his leg till he can barely walk, then when he least expects it, big KO"

It’s unacceptable that Magny with his 80” reach is allowing Ponzinibbio to a out jab him. #UFCArgentina

Lots of people complaining about Magny’s corner not stopping it have never stepped foot in a cage and fought for money.

The story of the co-main and main event was the calf kick. Both Ponz and Lamas won their fights with that kick. I don’t care how it was finished, their fights were over before the finishes happened. Love me some leg kicks! Great friggen card! #UFCArgentina #ufc @ufc @seanshelby
