Heading into battle against the man known as The Korean Zombie, Yair Rodriguez says he’s ready for whatever comes at UFC Denver.
Denver, CO — As it turns out, there was no issue with Yair Rodriguez making weight on Friday morning ahead of UFC Denver. He hit the featherweight limit without issues at Friday morning’s weigh-ins. Good news, and the main event is a go, with opponent The Korean Zombie also hitting the mark. Of course, that wasn’t the only concern heading in for Yair Rodriguez. There’s also the fact that he’s had little time to game plan, after stepping in on short notice to replace Frankie Edgar.
It’s not problem for Rodriguez, however. Noting it’s a philosophy shared by Cowboy Cerrone, he explained “we are fighters. We already know how to fight.”
“Sometimes you can have a strategy, and it doesn’t work the way you think,” he continued. “You gotta adjust. You always gotta be able to adjust, no matter what. I always have a strategy for my fights, and at the end of the day, my coaches always told me ‘you’re going to do whatever you’re going to do.'”
Ultimately, Rodriguez told reporters at the UFC Denver media day that “you gotta be ready for whatever comes, and I’m ready for whatever comes.”
Asked whether he has planned out his future in the division, Yair Rodriguez admitted that “I used to think differently before. I was a little worried about ‘I wanna get the title,’ and that mindset kind of.”
However, which age comes wisdom. “I realized it’s better to take it slowly, step by step. That way you’re learning [from] what you’re doing. And the mistakes that you’re doing in your career, you take in a better way, a different perspective on stuff.”
Which means that “right now I’m focused on just day by day.”
UFC Denver (UFC Fight Night 139) takes place Saturday, November 10 at the Pepsi Center in Denver, CO. The card airs on FOX Sports 1 (TSN 5 in Canada).
