The UFC’s 25th Anniversary show is set for Saturday night in Denver, and ahead of Korean Zombie vs. Yair Rodriguez, all fighters hit the scales Friday morning for the official weigh-in.
Denver, CO — On Saturday night in Denver at the Pepsi Center, the UFC is going to take part in a little bit of history. The event marks the promotion’s 25th anniversary, and what’s more, they’re returning to where it all started. UFC 1, of course, took place in Denver, nearly 25 years to the day. Royce Gracie won the tournament that night, years before Dana White and the Fertitta brothers turned the promotion around.
How time flies. The card going down Friday will exemplify a very different sport. Single-discipline athletes have all but vanished from the octagon. Fighters are now revered as athletes. The science of fighting is bigger than ever before.
But in the end, fans still just love a good fight. All that will start with Friday’s weigh-ins, to ensure the fights are a go.
The main event, featuring The Korean Zombie taking on Yair Rodriguez in an exciting featherweight battle, is one to keep an eye on. Rodriguez, after all, is taking the fight on short notice. Questions have also been raised about Mike Perry’s weight cut for his co-main event scrap against Donald Cerrone. ‘Platinum’ admittedly started his camp a little heavier than the norm.
