A new report has Junior Dos Santos vs. Tai Tuivasa topping the UFC Adelaide (UFC Fight Night 142) card in Australia.
Former UFC heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos is going down under. There, he’ll meet rising Australian star Tai Tuivasa. MMA Junkie reported the news Friday after an initial report by Brazil’s Combate. The event, numerically UFC Fight Night 142, takes place on December 1 in Adelaide, Australia at the Adelaide Entertainment Center.
Dos Santos (19-5) most recently headlined UFC Boise in July opposite promotional newcomer Blagoy Ivanov, a former WSOF champion. ‘Cigano’ picked up the win that night, but has been trading wins and losses since 2012, when his championship reign came to an end. Since then, he has losses to Cain Velasquez, Alistair Overeem, and Stipe Miocic, two of which were title fights. He also holds a win over Miocic prior to the Ohio native becoming champ, as well as victories against Mark Hunt and Ben Rothwell.
Tai Tuivasa (8-0), meanwhile, is a rare fresh face at heavyweight. The rising star burst onto the scene in the past ten months or so, quickly racking up three UFC wins. Last time out he earned a close decision win against Andrei Arlovski at UFC 225. Junior Dos Santos represents another step up, and will be the second straight former champion Tuivasa has faced.
