Continuing the recent theme of superfights in the UFC, two of the greatest female fighters of all time will throw down at UFC 232 when Cris Cyborg and Amanda Nunes finally collide.
Dana White confirmed to ESPN Wednesday afternoon that the champion-versus-champion matchup of Cris Cyborg and Amanda Nunes is now official for UFC 232. The fight, which will be for Cyborg’s featherweight championship, has been in the works for a while. However due to injuries to Amanda Nunes, the fight has been put on hold until the December 29th card.
Both fighters have been on historic tears through each of their respective divisions. Amanda Nunes is on a seven fight winning streak going into the bout, with wins over some of the best at bantamweight, including Meisha Tate, Valentina Shevchenko, and Raquel Pennington. However her finest hour was a first round destruction of Ronda Rousey at UFC 207.
Cris Cyborg on the other hand has won 20 fights in a row and is considered one of the greatest female Mixed Martial Artists of all time. In 2017 she achieved her greatest feat, when with a win over Tonya Evinger she became the UFC featherweight champion. Since then she’s defended the belt against former UFC bantamweight champion Holly Holm, as well as former Invicta FC champion Yana Kunitskaya.
There are currently no other fights scheduled for UFC 232, though there is sure to be many more coming, and if recent years are any indication, this end of the year show will be stacked.
Cyborg later confirmed the match-up on Instagram:
