The Sugar Show is rolling into Vegas at UFC 229, as Sean O’Malley will meet Jose Quinonez at the October event.
Sean O’Malley finally has his return date set. O’Malley, arguably the biggest star to come out of Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series so far, will face Jose Quinonez at UFC 229 this fall. Word of the fight was first reported by Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show. UFC 229 goes down October 6 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV.
O’Malley (10-0) has won both of his UFC bouts to date, and picked up Fight of the Night honors against Andre Soukhamthath last time out at UFC 222. Prior to that, he went the distance with Terrion Ware at the TUF 26 Finale in December.
Against Jose Quinonez (7-2), O’Malley gets a five time veteran of the octagon who first appeared for the promotion on The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America. He’d lose in the final to Alejandro Pérez, but has since won four straight. In his most recent outing, he picked up a unanimous decision win over Japan’s Teruto Ishihara. Quinonez has three finishes (two TKOs and a submission) across his seven wins, but has gone to decision in his last three fights.
UFC 229, of course, is headlined by a lightweight title fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor. O’Malley vs. Quinonez will reportedly open the PPV card, and with McGregor involved, it’s certainly a way to get some eyeballs on ‘The Sugar Show.’
