The UFC’s voyage back to where the company began is slated for this November, and the main event has been set as the Korean Zombie takes on Frankie Edgar.
The UFC’s likely main and co-main event for UFC Denver on November 10th are seemingly set. The company announced Friday that in the main event, we will see a match-up of featherweight contenders when the Korean Zombie, Chan Sung Jung takes on Frankie Edgar. The news broke via EPSN’s Brett Okamoto, quoting Dana White. It’s a fight that was rumored to be targeted for UFC 230 in Madison Square Garden but eventually landed in Denver.
Zombie vs. Edgar is a fight that has surprisingly not happened yet, given the stature of both fighters. Each is coming off victories. Chan Sung Jung last won over a year and half ago at UFC Houston defeating Dennis Bermudez after returning from an absence due to military service. That had required him to be gone for two years. Edgar on the other hand rebounded with a win over Cub Swanson in April, after losing his via stoppage to Brian Ortega at UFC 222.
The fight has major title implications as well, as Max Holloway’s status is currently unknown. The winner of this fight could potentially work themselves into an interim (put down the pitchforks) title fight against Brian Ortega depending on how things play out with ‘Blessed’ in the coming months.
Also announced for the UFC Denver card is a promising welterweight pairing. Between fighters who are also teammates. Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone will be taking on Mike Perry in a fan’s dream fight that is sure to bring violence. The fight is a bit of a surprise as the two train together at Jackson Wink in Albuquerque. It’s a bout that almost happened at UFC 226 after Yancy Mederios fell out of the Perry fight, but Cerrone couldn’t be cleared so quickly after his recent loss to Leon Edwards.
UFC Denver takes place November 10 at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado.
