Andrey Koreshkov proved to be a real-life Spartan, bringing the fight to Rome and picking up a body kick KO early at Bellator 203.
On a historic night in a historic venue, former Bellator welterweight champion Andrey Koreshkov looked to take another step down the road to redemption. Koreshkov boasted just two losses on his record heading into the night, both in title fights: a failed bid to topple Ben Askren when ‘Funky’ Ben was Emperor of the 170lb division in Bellator, and a loss to Douglas Lima that saw Koreshkov lose the title he held dear.
With Bellator’s welterweight grand prix looming, now was the time for Koreshkov to build on a bounce back win against Chidi Njokuani at Bellator 182 last August.
Opposite the former champ, Vaso Bakocevic, a.k.a. ‘The Psychopath.’
Koreshkov held the center of the cage early, but Bakocevic showed no fear of the ex-champ, throwing a spinning back kick. However, Koreshkov was not interested in making this a long night. He fired off a spinning kick of his own, landing clean and dropping Vaso Bakocevic, leaving him in sheer agony. The kick to the body, close to the liver, was enough to seal the deal, with follow-up shots barely necessary. The ref waved off the action, and Koreshkov had another big win.
