Luke Rockhold got the last laugh (at least on Twitter) after Yoel Romero’s failed weight cut for UFC 225 on Friday.

It wasn’t the story the UFC wanted to be dealing with just over twenty-four hours from the kick-off of UFC 225 in Chicago. But yet again, a bad weight cut led to a key fight being  thrown into turmoil, and the practice of weight cutting was in the spotlight. That’s thanks to Yoel Romero missing weight for his main event title fight against Robert Whittaker at the event. Something that will again stir up mixed emotions about weight cutting, and whether or not the early weigh-ins, brought in just a couple of years ago, should stick around.

Dana White said his piece on the matter earlier this week. Many in the MMA world did. A new round of discussion will no doubt emerge stemming from UFC 225.

In any case, the UFC 225 main event will no longer be for the middleweight title, at least as far as Yoel Romero is concerned. MMA Fighting’s Marc Ramondi reported that Romero was struggling to walk after the cut, creating even more concern. Whittaker has the option of declining the fight, though that’s unlikely. Romero will not be eligible for the title.

Romero’s fellow pros had their say on social media as events unfolded Friday. Check out their responses below.
