Kevin Lee was the final fighter to weigh in Friday morning, and missed weight for UFC Atlantic City.
UFC Atlantic City takes place Saturday night at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Ahead of the big event, fighters stepped on the scale Friday morning at the early weigh-ins, hosted at Bally’s Atlantic City. Thirteen fights, with a total of twenty-six fighters, were scheduled to hit the scales.
However, after the proceedings got underway at a fairly brisk pace, word made the rounds that Magomed Bibulatov was deemed medically unfit to step on the scale. That put the kibosh on his fight against Ulka Sasaki. Aspen Ladd opted to weigh in with the barrier in place, only to miss weight, coming in at 137.8lbs. That left her fight against Leslie Smith up in the air — Smith did weigh in, and made the bantamweight limit. Smith later declined the bout.
In a statement Friday, the UFC said that “Due to injury, Magomed Bibulatov was deemed unfit to fight and his flyweight bout against Ulka Sasaki has been canceled. Additionally, in the women’s bantamweight division, the Leslie Smith vs Aspen Ladd bout has been canceled after Ladd failed to make weight.”
Headliner Kevin Lee, meanwhile, was last to weigh in, and cut it awfully close to the 11AM cut-off time. Weighing in with a towel, Lee came in over the lightweight limit at 157lbs. With no time left and no additional two hours, he’ll forfeit twenty percent of his purse.
