Roxanne Modafferi and Barb Honchak finally have a new date.
It was supposed to take place at the finale of The Ultimate Fighter 26. Now, it’s the TUF 27 Finale that will see Barb Honchak and Roxanne Modafferi battle it out. The Las Vegas Review-Journal was first to break news of the fight, which will see former title challenger Modafferi clash with the woman who was considered one of the toughest female flyweights prior to the UFC introducing the division. The card takes place July 6 at the Palms casino in Las Vegas.
Modafferi (21–14), who fights out of Las Vegas, has now challenged for a title in both Invicta FC and the UFC, but come up short both times. She was defeated on The Ultimate Fighter 26 by Sijara Eubanks, but when Eubanks ran into trouble due to weight cutting issues, ‘The Happy Warrior’ replaced her at the finale. There, she lost to now-champion Nicco Montano. Prior to that, Modafferi had won two straight, including an impressive TKO finish of Sarah D’Alelio.
Honchak (10-3), like Modafferi, was considered a favorite to win The Ultimate Fighter 26, despite being out of action several years. However, she was eliminated in the semi-finals by Montano, then lost at the finale against Lauren Murphy.
The pair have fought before, with Honchak getting the win back in 2011 via a rear-naked choke.
