Blame Canada! Olivier Aubin-Mercier scored a huge finish of Evan Dunham at UFC 223 in Brooklyn, NY on Saturday.
After seeing his fight with Gilbert Burns cancelled last minute just a few weeks ago at UFC Orlando, Olivier Aubin-Mercier found himself on the tumultuous UFC 223 card in Brooklyn on Saturday. It was a card he told us he was hoping to join, so it seems things worked out well enough. But how would they work out in the cage for the lightweight, who was looking to break into the top fifteen in the 155lb division?
Incredibly well, actually.
Olivier Aubin-Mercier found himself clipped by an Evan left hand early. However, the Canadian held on and recovered. OAM would then land a huge knee to the body in the clinch. Evan Dunham would double up, winded. Aubin-Mercier would unload punch after punch as Dunham covered up, unable to catch his breath or find any reprieve. Then, ‘The Quebec Kid’ went back to what worked, and unloaded another huge knee to the body. Dunham, unable to defend, was out, and the ref soon waved it off. That marked the biggest win of Aubin-Mercier’s career.
Joking with Joe Rogan after the fight, he said he simply wanted to be a Canadian Gangster. “I have a stache, I say sorry, I cry, I don’t give a f***!” To the approval of the crowd, he suggested his performance deserved a bonus as well.
