Donald Cerrone will take on another rising British contender in a Fight Pass main event when he squares off with Leon Edwards at UFC Singapore.
MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani reported the UFC Singapore main event booking.
Darren Till used a Fight Pass main event against Donald Cerrone to propel himself into a number-one contender fight in the welterweight division earlier this year. Leon Edwards hopes to have similar results when he battles Cowboy in June.
Leon Edwards has been one of the more successful welterweights on the roster recently, owning a 7-2 UFC record along with a five-fight win streak. The British grappler has torn through the middle of the pack welterweights to earn himself a spot in the welterweight rankings. Edwards’ win streak contains wins over Albert Tumenov, Vicente Luque, and Bryan Barberena. The former BAMMA champion called out Darren Till after his most recent win, but also called out Cerrone after a victory in 2017. So he is getting what he asked for after a brief delay.
Donald Cerrone is a fan favorite who always provides entertainment when he steps in the cage. Cowboy has stepped into the Octagon an insane 27 times and has earned post-fight bonuses in 13 of those. After Rafael dos Anjos put an end to Cerrone’s eight-fight win streak in their title fight in 2015, Cerrone moved up to the welterweight division, where he rattled off four consecutive victories and was on the doorstep of another title shot. His momentum came to a halt after a controversial decision loss to Robbie Lawler followed by KO losses to Jorge Masvidal and Darren Till, but he got back on track with a first-round knockout over Yancy Medeiros in February.
UFC Fight Night 132 will take place in Singapore, but the UFC does not yet have a specific location in the country. Joining Cerrone and Edwards on the card are flyweights Jessica Eye and Jessica Rose-Clark.
