UFC Liverpool has a middleweight tango on tap as Eric Spicely is expected to meet Darren Stewart at the event.
The UFC Liverpool card is starting to take shape just days after it was officially announced. The event, taking place in May in Liverpool, England, features Darren Till in the main event. And though he has yet to have an opponent booked opposite him, anticipation for the show is at a high. This week, UFC fans got word of another bout that will fill out the card. That will see middleweights Eric Spicely and Darren Stewart throw down.
Spicely confirmed the match-up on Twitter following a report from MMANYTT.com several days back.
I haven’t taken time off since my last fight. I’m ready to get back on track. Back at Tristar, back in my old room, back to the win column. #ufcliverpool https://t.co/xRfuyulgwT

Spicely (11-3) is a veteran of The Ultimate Fighter 23, where he lost in the semi-final round to eventual winner Andrew Sanchez. He’d go on to lose his UFC debut against Sam Alvey. He followed that up with back-to-back wins over Alessio Di Chirico and Thiago Santos, both via submission. However, following that up came the down. Spicely has lost his last two, and will be in need of a win in Liverpool following losses to Antonio Carlos Junior and Gerald Meerschaert.
Opposite Eric Spicely in the cage in Liverpool will be England’s own Darren Stewart (7-3, 1NC). Stewart, like Spicely, will be looking for a win, but is in even more dire circumstances. ‘The Dentist’ signed on with the promotion in 2016 and has yet to find his first official win. His debut, originally a TKO victory against Francimar Barroso, was overturned to a No Contest due to an accidental headbutt. Since then, he’s lost three straight, which includes a decision loss to Barroso in their rematch. Since winless in five in the UFC generally doesn’t happen if you’re not a top draw, it’s likely that Stewart will be competing for his job in Liverpool.
UFC Liverpool (UFC Fight Night 130) takes place May 27 at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, London.
