UFC Chile has had a pair of bouts added, with Jared Cannonier facing Dominick Reyes and Frankie Saenz meeting Henry Briones.
The UFC’s debut in Chile is beginning to fill out. On Tuesday, the promotion announced a pair of fights for the event in May. Those are Jared Cannonier vs. Dominick Reyes at light heavyweight, and a bantamweight scrap between Frankie Saenz and Henry Briones. UFC Chile, which will be a Fight Night event (UFC Fight Night 129, to be specific), takes place May 19. The bouts have been added to the event’s official fight card.
Cannonier vs. Reyes will see 33 year old Texas native Cannonier (10–3) looking to bounce back from a loss to Jan Błachowicz in December. 2-2 in his past four fights, Cannonier holds wins over Nick Roehrick and Ion Cutelaba, while also losing to top 205lb’er Glover Teixeira. Prior to that stretch, Cannonier competed at heavyweight.
Dominick Reyes (8-0), meanwhile, remains perfect as a pro. He holds wins over Joachim Christensen (a TKO victory and Performance of the Night) and Jeremy Kimball.
The bantamweight scrap announced will see Frankie Saenz (12–5) look to make it two wins in a row against Henry Briones. Briones (16–7–1) is on a three fight losing streak at the moment, and likely fighting for his spot on the roster. Consistency and activity has been a big factor in Briones struggles, as he has made it to the octagon just once per year since 2014.
UFC Chile takes place on May 19 at the Movistar Arena in Santiago, Chile. A main event is yet to be announced for the card.
