Daniel Cormier, moved out from under the specter of the suspended Jon Jones, got back to his winning ways at UFC 220.

UFC 220 marked the return of the once-again Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier. It was his first fight back after his KO defeat to Jon Jones at UFC 214, a result later overturned after Jones tested positive for a banned substance. Cormier regained his title, and waited for his next challenge. That challenge came from fast rising Swiss striker Volkan Oezdemir. Oezdemir, after three fights and two knockout finishes in the UFC, in turn saw himself squared off with one of the baddest men on the planet.

With the action getting underway in the five round co-main event, Volkan Oezdemir looked to get to work early. He went right after Daniel Cormier. ‘No Time’ pushed the pace and Cormier fired back with a head kick. Oezdemir fired off a pair of lefts, Cormier fired back. Oezdemir then launched a left that Cormier responded too with a right. D.C. landed a hard right that hurt Oezdemir next, and both men were firing shots. Oezdemir was starting to show some damage. Cormier landed another right hand, and later shot the single. The champ would eventually drag Oezdemir down, take his back and look for the choke as time in the first wore down.

In the second, Cormier got off first with a jab, and quickly shot the single taking Oezdemir down to his back. Cormier immediately took mount, then side control and worked into a crucifix where he started dropping shots, forcing the ref to call an end to the fight! With that, Daniel Cormier retained the UFC light heavyweight championship.
