It’s not the opponent many expected, but Tecia Torres has a fight set for UFC on FOX 28.
After originally being linked to a bout with Karolina Kowalkiewicz, Tecia Torres has a bout with Jessica Andrade set at UFC Orlando next February. Torres confirmed the news Friday, which had previously been announced by the UFC. The booking pits the second and fifth ranked strawweights in the UFC against each other, in what could be a possible title eliminator.
Tecia Torres (10-1), ranked fifth in the UFC’s 115lb weight class, last fought at UFC 218, defeating promotional darling Michelle Waterson. The former Invicta fighter joined the UFC via The Ultimate Fighter 20, which introduced the strawweight division. She has long been considered a potential title challenger, and with three straight wins under her belt, a big showing against Andrade could punch her ticket to a showdown with champ Rose Namajunas. The pair first met in April 2016, where Namajunas won via unanimous decision.
First, however, Torres will have Jessica Andrade (17-6) to contend with. The Brazilian is coming off an impressive victory over Claudia Gadelha at UFC Japan. That bout marked her first fight back since losing to then-champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 211. Andrade, who previously fought at bantamweight, is ranked second in the strawweight division.
UFC Orlando, a.k.a. UFC on FOX 28, goes down February 24, 2018 at Amway Center in Orlando, Florida.
