Former Invicta FC champion Livia Renata Souza has her UFC debut set!
Livia Renata Souza, who once ruled the 115lb weight class in Invicta FC, has been booked for a straweight clash with Jessica Aguilar. Brazil’s Combate first reported the news. The bout will take place as part of the UFC Austin (UFC Fight Night 126) card next February. It’s one of a number of big strawweight battles the promotion has announced recently. Those include Teccia Torres vs. Jessica Andrade, also set for February at UFC Orlando.
The bout pits the former Queen of the WSOF against the former Queen of Invicta’s strawweight division. Aguilar (19-6), in fact, was once the hottest name at 115lbs. Winning ten straight bouts from 2010 to 2014, she was at the top of the heap and held wins over UFC champ Carla Esparza and Japan’s Megumi Fujii. However, since joining the UFC she has struggled to find her footing, and has lost both her bouts to date. Each came via decision, with both Claudia Gadelha and Cortney Casey getting the nod over her.
Souza’s debut, meanwhile, could introduce a new contender in an absolutely stacked weight class. Souza (11-1) has held five titles outside the UFC, at both flyweight and strawweight. She won her last two bouts in Invicta FC, and is coming off a win over Janaisa Morandin this past August.
UFC Austin takes place February 18 at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, TX. Cowboy Cerrone takes on Yancy Medeiros in the main event.
