Sage Northcutt vs. Thibault Gouti is official for UFC Austin.
UFC Fight Night 126 will see the return of ‘Super’ Sage Northcutt. The promotion notified ESPN of the young fighter’s planned bout Thursday. Northcutt is set to face Thibault Gouti at the event, which is more commonly known as UFC Austin. The fight will be Northcutt’s second UFC bout in his home state of Texas.
After dabbling at welterweight, the fight with Gouti will mark the second straight back at lightweight for Northcutt (9-2). Despite many naysayers questioning the UFC marketing Northcutt as a star, the twenty-one year old has gone 4-2 in the promotion to date. He’s coming off a win over Michel Quiñones, and will look to string together a pair of wins for the first time since 2015.
Northcutt was undefeated through the first seven fights of his professional career, including his first two UFC bouts.
Thibault Gouti (12-3) recently shook off a three-fight losing streak with a TKO victory over Andrew Holbrook at UFC Fight Night 115. The former competitive squash player is now 1-3 in the UFC.
Sage Northcutt vs. Thibault Gouti is likely to appear on the televised portion of the UFC Austin card. The even takes place February 18 at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas. Currently, the UFC Fight Night 126 main event is unknown, though it’s almost certain to be announced by the end of the year.
