A neck injury has put UFC 220’s Charles Rosa on the sidelines for the time being.
UFC 220 in Boston is a man down. Featherweight Charles Rosa, who has taken part in three Fight of the Night winning bouts in just five UFC fights, announced Thursday that doctors have taken him off the UFC 220 card. Rosa had been expected to face Dan Ige at the event, scheduled to take place January 20.
Unfortunately, doctors have pulled me from my upcoming @UFC 220 fight @tdgarden from neck injury, promise I’ll be backStronger!#BostonStrong pic.twitter.com/oxVU9WAYMZ

While Rosa (11-3) cited a neck injury as the reason why he’s off the card, he did not expand on the time frame for his return, or whether surgery would be required. In any case, Ige (8-1), who won his way into the UFC on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contenders Series, is without an opponent for the time being.
The UFC has yet to comment on the injury, but it’s likely a replacement opponent will be sought, given that the card is still a month away.
Rosa last fought at UFC 210 in Buffalo this past April, where he was finished in the third round by Shane Burgos. It was the third Fight of the Night honor for Rosa, who is 2-3 in the UFC to date. All three of his losses have come in Fight of the Night winning scraps.
UFC 220 takes place January 20 at the TD Garden in Boston, MA. Stipe Miocic faces Francis Ngannou for the heavyweight title in the main event. In the co-main event of the evening, light heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier takes on Volkan Oezdemir.
