Strawweight gold will be contested for the first time in ONE Championship next month!
ONE Championship has announced the headliner for its upcoming Kings of Courage show in Jakarta, Indonesia. On the line, for the first time ever, will be the ONE women’s strawweight title. Fighting in the inaugural women’s strawweight championship bout will be Singapore’s Tiffany Teo, taking on Xiong Jing Nan of China.
In a press release distributed Monday, ONE Championship Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong said that “I am super excited to announce Tiffany Teo versus Xiong Jing Nan at ONE: KINGS OF COURAGE in Jakarta. It is our first global broadcast of 2018 and we are going big.”
“The two women are exemplary martial artists who compete at the highest level of skill. It should be an exciting bout for all the fans watching, and at the end of the night, we will be crowning our first ONE Women’s Strawweight World Champion.”
A co-main event of Stefer Rahardian and Muhammad Imran was also announced for the card. That bout will serve as a title eliminator to determine who gets the next shot at the flyweight belt.
Teo (7-0) is perfect in her professional MMA career to date. In her last outing, she submitted Pooja Tomar at November’s ONE Championship: Immortal Pursuit card. With four straight wins under the ONE banner, ‘No Chill’ has been on a tear of late.
China’s Xiong Jing Nan (10-1) is a longtime veteran of the Kunlun Fight promotion in China. She made her ONE Championship debut this month at Warriors of the World, where she stopped April Osenio.
ONE Championship: Kings of Courage will take place January 20 at the Jakarta Convention Center in Jakarta, Indonesia. Additional bouts are expected to be announced for the card in the coming weeks.
