Relive the glory of ONE Championship: Warriors of the World, which saw a changing of the guard at strawweight.
On Saturday, ONE Championship returned to action with Warriors of the World. Going down in Bangkok, Thailand, the event saw strawweight gold on the line when challenger Alex Silva stepped up against Yoshitaka Naito. While Naito entered the fight with an undefeated 12-0 record, the 0 would not survive. Brazil’s Silva went the full five rounds with Naito, picking up a unanimous decision victory to be crowned the new ONE Championship strawweight king.
In the co-main event, Rasul Yakhyaev defeated Shannon Wiratchai via unanimous decision, while earlier in the evening, Rika Ishige submitted Rome Trinidad in the second round of their atomweight tilt.
The highlight of the night, however, was arguably Christian Lee’s finish of Kotetsu Boku. A battle of old guard vs. new, it was the younger Lee who walked away with victory. The finish? A slam that turned the lights out for Japan’s Boku.
The card marked the final event of 2017 for ONE Championship. The Asian MMA powerhouse will return in January 2018 with Kings of Courage in Jakarta, Indonesia.
