Sinead Kavanagh missed weight for Bellator 187 on Friday, but was successful in the cage, getting back in the win column and snapping a two-fight losing skid.
Bellator 187 went down Friday in Dublin, Ireland. Airing via tape delay in North America, the card was light on star power but heavy on action. In women’s catchweight action (140lbs), SBG Ireland’s Sinead Kavanagh took on Maria Casanova on the main card. It was the fourth outing in Bellator MMA for Kavanagh, who was looking to snap a two-fight losing streak. Kavanagh came in heavy, however, clocking it just north of 143lbs. Casanova actually came in under the limit.
Fighting just thirty minutes from her home at the 3 Arena in Dublin, Kavanagh had the crowd in her corner against France’s Casanova.
Right off the opening bell, Kavanagh dropped Casanova with a big right hand, then immediately climbed into mount. Casanova’s only defense was to hang on, which wouldn’t cut it. Full mount acquired, Kavanagh dropped a number of bombs from the top as Casanova covered up. It wasn’t long before the ref had seen enough, putting a stop to the ground and pound, waving off the fight. The win represented Kavanagh’s second Bellator MMA victory. Casanova, meanwhile, fell to 3-6-1 having lost three straight.
