The Professional Fighter’s League is teaming up with Washington’s Fight Night annual charity event for a good cause. Now in its twenty-eighth year, Fight Night has drummed up $60 million for Fight For Children, a non-profit charity organization focused on ensuring access to quality education for kids in the D.C. area. The promotion announced the news via press release, stating that former World Series of Fighting heavyweight champ and Bellator MMA standout Blagoy Ivanov, as well as featherweight star Lance Palmer, would take part in the event.
Per the press release, “I can’t think of a better place to showcase the growing popularity of MMA than at Fight Night 2017,” said Raul Fernandez, Vice Chairman of Monumental Sports and Chairman of the Board of Fight For Children. “The PFL and Fight for Children will join forces that night, and have a huge impact on at-risk kids in the Greater Washington D.C. area.”
The Fight Night event featured boxing matches in previous years.
Ivanov (15-1), winner of four straight (with three stoppages during that run) will meet Brazilian Caio Alencar (11-1) at the event. Palmer (11-3) gets back in the cage after a March bout with Andre Harrison. He’ll face an opponent yet to be named. Additional bouts are expected to be announced for the card at a later date.
The Fight Night event will be held November 2 at the Washington Hilton in Washington, D.C. It will serve as the final event of PFL’s 2017 schedule, and stream live on the promotion’s website, www.ProfessionalFightersLeague.com.
