Ricardo Lamas proved why he is one of featherweight’s best as he defeated Jason Knight via TKO in the first round at UFC 214.
Despite being ranked third in his division, Lamas came into this UFC 214 match-up against Jason Knight as the underdog. Lamas hadn’t fought since last November of last year where he earned himself a performance bonus after choking out Charles Oliveira.
On the other hand, Jason Knight (a man of many nicknames) was picking up some mainstream media attention after his back and forth war with Chas Skelly in May at UFC 211. Knight won the bout via TKO in the third round, picking up his third performance bonus in four fights.
Knight began brightly by hopping onto a standing guillotine that Lamas shrugged off very quickly and turned it into a takedown of his own. Although ‘The Bully’ was in top position, it was Knight who was extremely active off his back.
After getting back to his feet, Lamas unloaded on Knight and ‘The Kid’ was taking unbelievable amounts of punishment on the feet. Referee Mike Beltran was close to stopping the action but ‘The Kid’ managed to survive.

However, Lamas eventually got the fight to the ground where all it took was two follow up punches and Beltran saved Knight from any further punishment.
In his post-fight interview, Lamas discussed his performance and the amount of strikes Knight was able to endure.
“The kid’s got some brass balls on him. He’s been on my radar for a while, I know he’s going to bounce back. We might have to call him the Hillbilly Zombie instead of Hick Diaz!”
Lamas extended his record to 18-5 with the win and picked up his first victory by way of TKO in over four years.
