Bad news for the UFC 213 card in Las Vegas during International Fight Week. Donald Cerrone, who had been scheduled to face former welterweight champion Robbie Lawler at the event, is injured, and will likely not be able to make the card. MMA Fighting reported the news this morning.

The nature of Cerrone’s injury was not disclosed, and the UFC has yet to comment.

Cerrone (32–8 (1)) was last seen in action at UFC on Fox 23 this past January, where he was TKO’d by Jorge Masvidal in the second round following a rough first round for “Cowboy.” Prior to that, however, Cowboy Cerrone had run up a four fight win streak at welterweight, with wins over Patrick Cote and Matt Brown among others.

Robbie Lawler (27–11 (1)), meanwhile, is also coming off a loss, having last fought against Tyron Woodley at UFC 201. Prior to that he had been on a five fight win streak including two title defenses, against Rory MacDonald and Carlos Condit.

If the news that Cerrone vs. Lawler is off the UFC 213 card holds true, it will be a huge blow to the event, headlined by a women’s bantamweight title fight between champ Amanda Nunes and challenger Valentina Shevchenko. Cerrone vs. Lawler was one of the most eagerly anticipated fights of the Summer.

UFC 213 takes place July 8 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV.
