Jimmy Crute had an impressive performance at UFC Fight Island 6, knocking out Modestas Bukauskas with a crushing counter-right in the first round.

Jimmy Crute was looking to test just how legit Modestas Bukauskas was at UFC Fight Island 6. Crute has fought several well-known light heavyweights in his four appearances in the Octagon. He’s stopped Paul Craig, Sam Alvey, and Michal Oleksiejczuk with the lone loss coming two fights ago against Misha Cirkunov.

Bukauskas signed with the UFC as the Cage Warriors light heavyweight champion on a six-fight win streak of all stoppages. That continued in his promotional debut against Andreas Michailidis in July, in which elbows late in the first round caused a stoppage in between rounds. He is 11-2 in his career heading into the fight with all but one of his wins ending before the final bell.

Crute shot for a takedown right out of the gate that brought the fight to the fence. While Crute was trying for a takedown, he hit Bukauskas with a knee below the belt that paused the action temporarily. The fighters traded leg kicks, then Crute countered a Bukauskas body kick with an overhand right that knocked his opponent down. Bukauskas got to his feet, but was off balance and was hit with a left hand that turned the lights out.

Crute jumped over the cage to pay a visit to Dana White, who told him that the knockout earned him a $50K performance bonus. Crute followed up the fight with a call-out of Nikita Krylov, who is currently without an opponent after Volkan Oezdemir pulled out of their expected bout.

Jim Crute continued his rise at UFC 234 with a first-round stoppage against Sam Alvey, who was less-than-pleased with the stoppage.

Jim Crute is a 22-year-old promising Australian with a 9-0 record coming into UFC 234. Crute does not discriminate in terms of victory method with three knockouts, three submissions, and three decisions to his name. Crute earned his shot at the UFC through Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series with a first-round knockout, then followed up with a third-round submission in his promotional debut against Paul Craig.

Sam Alvey will be fighting on a pay-per-view card for the first time in his 16-fight UFC career at UFC 234. He’s well-known for his positive demeanor and knockout power with five striking stoppages in his Octagon career. He had a two-fight winning streak snapped by the legendary Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in his last contest.

Jim Crute started the fight with a front kick and a high kick that both missed. Both fighters threw straight punches but could not connect cleanly. Crute had a head kick blocked by Sam Alvey, then landed a body kick. Crute landed a beautiful right hand as Alvey was coming in that knocked down the veteran. Alvey was on hands and knees, but Crute walked away instead of pursuing the finish. Alvey was able to stand up and stumble backward. Crute walked him down and landed a head kick that Alvey caught. Alvey drove Crute to the canvas, but Crute reversed position and took the back of Alvey. Crute was raining down punches that were primarily blocked before Marc Goddard stepped in and stopped the fight.

Alvey was immediately in the face of the referee, saying he had his thumb up to signify that he was ok. Alvey was livid as the decision was announced and stormed out of the Octagon after Crute was announced the winner.

Smilin’ Sam Alvey is not shying away from short notice scraps. On Friday, Australia’s News.com.au reported that Ryan Spann was out of his fight against Jim Crute. And stepping in against Crute would be none other than Alvey, who has gone 2-1 since venturing up to the light heavyweight division early last year.

Spann was apparently forced off the the card after breaking his hand during training. Crute himself would later confirm the switch of opponents.

Alvey (33–11 (1)) will head to Brazil looking to bounce back from a loss to ‘Little Nog,’ Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. Prior to that, he had captured wins against Marcin Prachnio and Gian Villante. A member of the UFC roster since 2014, Alvey has become known for fighting often, and fighting anyone, frequently on short notice. He is tied with Donald Cerrone for the UFC record for most fights in a twelve month period, at six.

The man with the best smile in the sport was expected to fight Gadzhimurad Antigulov at UFC Prague, but that fight will have to be rescheduled, or a replacement found.

Jim Crute (9-0), meanwhile, is returning from a late third round submission win against Paul Craig at UFC Fight Night 142.

UFC 234 takes place in Melbourne, Australia on February 10 (local time, February 9 in North America). Robert Whittaker faces Kelvin Gastelum in the main event.

A battle of light heavyweight prospects Jim Crute and Paul Craig helped kick off the main card at UFC Adelaide.

Jim Crute looked to get his UFC career off on the right track with a debut fight against Paul Craig at UFC Adelaide on Saturday night. Joining the promotion after his victory on Dana White’s Contender Series, Crute had a tough assignment in Paul Craig. Craig, who had two wins in the promotion, owned the best comeback victory of 2018. That came by scoring a submission in the final second over Magomed Ankalaev, in March of this year. Craig scored a second UFC contract with the win, and was looking to get on a winning streak.

The first round of this light heavyweight battle featured a lot of fun grappling exchanges between the two. Craig looked for a takedown and got it very quickly, just seconds into the bout, however Crute would then reverse it and got back to the feet. As the round progressed we would see Crute get Craig to the ground and even look for a arm triangle choke, which he couldn’t secure. Crute however still had success with ground and pound while Craig looked for submissions from the bottom.

The second round also featured some slick grappling moments, but it seemed like Craig was having more success. Craig was on top for nearly the duration of the round, but Crute reversed him at times and landed on top. However he would consistently stand up just to get taken down by Craig once again. Through two rounds, it was absolutely a close fight, with Crute more than holding his own despite his newcomer status.

The third round featured a very tired Craig being outwrestled and outgrappled. Near the end of the round when it seemed like the fight would go to a decision, Crute got the full mount and landed plenty of big elbows and punches. He then transitioned to a kimura, and got it in fully, putting pressure on the shoulder as he submitted Craig in the final ten seconds of the fight!

Live by the late submission, die by the late submission. Great win by Jimmy Crute. Tough break for Paul Craig, meanwhile.
