The co-main event of UFC Mexico City ended in a split decision, with Marlon “Chito” Vera suffering a loss to David Martinez, his fourth consecutive defeat.

Vera started strong, bringing aggression and commanding presence in the opening round. Martinez appeared unsettled early, spending much of the first frame finding his rhythm, but once he settled in, the speed disparity between the two bantamweights became evident.

In the aftermath, some fans questioned whether it might be time for Vera to consider stepping away, pointing to what they viewed as a lack of urgency in recent performances. While his durability remains undeniable, consistently making it to the final bell, critics argue that resilience alone may no longer be enough at this stage of his career.

Fellow fighters had mixed reactions to the outcome. Some felt Martinez spent too much of the fight circling and disengaging, arguing that Vera may have done enough to edge out the third round. The more common takeaway, however, was that speed proved to be the deciding factor, with Martinez simply moving too quickly and efficiently for Vera to consistently track him down.

Overall, there wasn’t widespread outrage over the unanimous decision, as all three judges scored the bout 29-28 for Martinez. His speed and positional awareness ultimately carried the night, while others suggested Vera’s struggles may reflect a broader trend rather than a one-off performance.

So what does this mean for Chito Vera? Does he consider walking away, or does he still have enough left to make the necessary adjustments and mount another meaningful run? At 33 years old, he could very well be entering the final chapter of a 12-year UFC career.

That said, credit where it’s due. Twelve years competing at the highest level, facing and defeating some of the division’s best, is no small accomplishment. Marlon “Chito” Vera remains one of the bantamweight division’s most durable veterans, but the questions surrounding his future are now louder than ever.

Under the bright lights of Arena CDMX, Mexico’s fighting pride returns home with something to prove. Former flyweight champion Brandon Moreno steps back into familiar territory on Saturday night, headlining UFC Mexico City against surging contender Lone’er Kavanagh.

Moreno (23-9-2) was originally scheduled to face Asu Almabayev at UFC Mexico City, but an injury forced the Kazakh contender off the card. Stepping in to replace him is Kavanagh, who now finds himself thrust into a high-profile opportunity against a former champion on hostile territory. The late opponent change adds another layer of intrigue to an already pivotal flyweight clash.

“I was fine with it. UFC made it clear that they would get me another opponent, so it wasn’t a big deal,” Moreno told reporters on Wednsday.

“I spoke with my team and figured the work had already been done, we had already made our way to Mexico City. The physical toll of training, the financial cost of camp and getting everybody to Mexico, so canceling the fight never crossed my mind.”

Moreno arrived in Mexico City only to learn a few days later that he would be facing a new opponent in Kavanagh. The switch raised eyebrows among fans, particularly given that Kavanagh is coming off a knockout loss to Charles Johnson. Still, the former flyweight champion understands that while the replacement may not carry the biggest name value, he remains a dangerous and unpredictable threat inside the cage.

“Obviously in name value he offers nothing, but he’s still very dangerous. He’s very good technically, very explosive, he’s aggressive and he’s young. So he’s coming in hungry,” he said.

“He’s the underdog. Most people don’t know who he is so he’ll try to use me to boost his name. That makes him dangerous, but I feel very good, what can I say?”

Asked about the possibility of competing on the UFC’s proposed White House card later this year, Moreno didn’t hesitate when addressing the speculation. The former champion made it clear that the idea holds no appeal for him in the least.

“Brother, I want you to tell me, why would I want to fight there,” said Moreno.

“I’m not interested in that at all, thank you very much.”

Morales enters this weekends fight with Raul Rosas Jr. after being out of the cage for only five weeks. He discusses with us why he felt so ready to get back in there despite the short layoff. Plus, he talks about the stylistic matchup of the fight with the prospect Rosas – particularly as it pertains to grappling. Could ‘Vandetta’ submit the submission specialist? Don’t rule it out.

A pair of flyweights vie for a spot in the the 125lbs title picture. Steven Erceg will look to earn his second shot at the belt, but standing in his way is a former champion in his own right. Brandon Moreno is looking to reclaim what was once his and has looked good as of late. Plus, in the co-main event, Drew Dober looks to fend off Manuel Torres as he vies for a top-15 spot. We’ll break down those fights as well as some of our other favorite fights on the main card. Plus, as always, we’re hitting you with an underdog and a plus-money parlay that we think will make your wallet fat this weekend.

Mexico City – UFC featherweight Yair Rodriguez faces Brian Ortega at UFC Mexico City on Saturday night, but he did have thoughts on the new champion in his division.

“I would love to f*ck him up. I don’t want to fight him. I want to f*ck him up. There’s a f*cking big difference on that,” Rodriguez told reporters on Wednesday.

“Just to make that clear. And anywhere I f*cking see him I’ll f*ck him up.”

Rodriguez was very clear on how he feels about new UFC featherweight champion Ilia Topuria who took the title from Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 298.

“F*ck this b*tch. I don’t f*cking like him,” Rodriguez said.

The stakes feel pretty high in the fight with Ortega, but Rodriguez made it clear that he should get the title shot with a win in Mexico City. Even if the title fight is in Topuria’s home of Spain.

“I think that’s what’s next for us. Any of us, whoever wins, the title is next,” he said.

“F*ck yeah I’ll fight him in his backyard if he wants.”

First he has to get past Ortega who he fought for almost a full round in 2022 before an injury ended the fight early. Rodriguez earned a win on that night.

“I think we both are prepared for each other. He kind of knows what I’m bringing to the table. His grappling I kind of have a feeling of it, his grip and everything, and the game plans are there,” he said.

“It’s going to be really interesting. It’s going to be a lot of who can pull off the game plan better.”

Mexico City – UFC strawweight Yazmin Jauregui faces Sam Hughes at UFC Mexico City on Saturday night, but the Mexican fighter reflected on her journey to the UFC from having a child early in life until now.

“It’s very beautiful. It’s something that has helped me mature quite a bit as well. I was a young mother with no experience whatsoever. I was already in this sport. I was 18-years-old when (my son) was born,” Jauregui told reporters on Wednesday.

“What i’ll never forget are all the sacrifices I made when I was pregnant. When I had my son who was only a few months old, and I wanted to continue in this sport. While I was pregnant I visualized and dreamt of being in this space.”

It only got tougher oncer her son, Matias, was born. The dedication to training put them both through some tough situations and challenges.

“I would wake up every day to run. He’d be in my arms when I went to the gym. I wasn’t economically stable so I was always in taxis with my son, his backpack and diaper bag, running everywhere. If it rained he would get wet, and it was a very hard experience to go through,” Jauregui said.

“But look at where I am now. Grateful to God for this opportunity and I hope that we get very far. I believe in myself so much I believe I will be a champion one day.”

Mexico City – Fighting at home for the first time under the UFC banner lightweight Manuel Torres has thought about the achievement as he prepares to face Chris Duncan at UFC Mexico City on Saturday night.

“I’m very proud of everything I’ve done. I’m here, I made it to the UFC, and at this historic event. The second time the UFC comes to Mexico City and being part of it is incredible,” Torres told reporters on Wednesday.

“I’m one of the best in the world. I’m very proud of my work, and very happy.”

Fighting in the biggest promotion in the world, and in Mexico, is a feather in the cap for Torres.

“It’s a dream come true. Like I’ve said I feel like one of the best being here (in the UFC,” Torres said.

Torres is coming off an elbow knockout victory over Nikolas Motta last August which has gone viral online. The standing elbow KO is at the top of any highlight reel when Torres is mentioned.

“I trained that a lot. I worked it with my coach. I had thought about using it, and when the opportunity came, I did. I studied Nikolas Motta and noticed he opens up to throw his hooks so I figured that would be the time to use it,” he said.

Torres will be fighting in front of over 20,000 fans at Arena CDMX.

“I’ve imagined it and I get a little bit nervous and excited, but I come to fight. Afterwards I’ll meet with the crowd,” Torres said.

“But I come to fight.”

Mexico City – UFC flyweight Victor Altamirano finally gets to fight in Mexico where he will get to fight in front of his family against Felipe Dos Santos at UFC Mexico City.

“I’m excited. I’m euphoric. I’m really looking forward for this fight. It is the first time in which two of my passions in life are happening and existing together in the same place,” Altamirano told reporters on Wednesday.

“One of them being the sport that I love, and the other one being the family that I love. They both get to exist for the first time in the same place.”

Fighting in Mexico has always been a goal for Altamirano.

“I would say it’s a big bucket list,” he said.

He faces Dos Santos who will look to rebound from his first career loss at the hands of Manel Kape.

“He’s an aggressive opponent. He displayed himself very well against Kape. I know he’s going to come out swinging. We just need to make sure that we keep the pace, we’ve got to use the elevation to our advantage, and we want to make sure that he feels the same pressure that he gives,” Altamirano said.

“We don’t want to budge in, and we want to make sure that we are as accurate as possible.”

Mexico City – UFC flyweight Jesus Aguilar put everything on hold to prepare for his bout against Mateus Mendonca at UFC Mexico City on Saturday night.

He even closed his restaurants down.

“This camp has been the toughest of my career because I’m far away from my family, I closed my restaurant, made some big changes in my life,” Aguilar told reporters on Wednesday.

“Nevertheless I think it’s been worth it, but we’ll see the results on Saturday. I came for victory and nothing else.”

Closing down an established business such as Aguilar’s restaurant is a tough decision, but one that seemed to have had good timing.

“I closed it temporarily. I think it’ll be 3-6 months depending on the new structure of the business since we’re at a higher level now,” he said.

At UFC Mexico City Aguilar meets Mendonca who comes into the fight on a two-fight losing streak and badly needing a win.

“He’s going to come out very aggressive as he normally does, but he just showed up to Mexico City. Mexico City is unforgiving. For two weeks it was rough for me (to acclimate). I came well prepared so I didn’t think the altitude would affect me, but it did,” Aguilar said.

“I know he’s going to throw everything and he’s going to get tired, and we’ll beat him.”

Mexico City – For UFC bantamweight Raul Rosas Jr it’s a dream come true to fight in Mexico where he will face Ricky Turcios at UFC Mexico City on Saturday night.

“It’s a dream coming true. Going to be able to perform in front of family that can’t go watch me in the US. Fighting in front of then means a lot to me,” Rosas Jr told reporters on Wednesday.

Rosas Jr will face Turcios who is coming off a split-decision victory, but that win was back in November 2022. Even with the long layoff Rosas Jr respects his opponent at UFC Mexico City.

“I’m happy with this fight. He’s another prospect as well. He’s The Ultimate Fighter champion. Winning this fight is going to take me big places,” he said.

“I just know a lot of big things are going to come my way winning this fight on Saturday night.”

Turcios is a fan favorite, but his skillset and toughness still brings challenges for Rosas Jr in the octagon.

“He’s a tough fighter, he’s good, so it’s going to be a war. I’m ready for anything to get my hand raised on Saturday,” said Rosas Jr.
