Sean Strickland will continue his relationship with Eric Nicksick, but it’s unlikely the Xtreme Couture head coach will continue to corner him.

Strickland, the former UFC middleweight champ who lost a rematch with Dricus Du Plessis this past weekend at UFC 312, said as much while responding to a Nicksick appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, in which the coach questioned whether Strickland was looking to be a world champion, or just fight for money. Particularly, he suggested Strickland was “uninspiring” and added that “he needs to evaluate what he wants to do in this sport.”

In a lengthy video response posted directly to social media, Strickland opened by noting the number of fans who had tagged him with clips of Nicksick’s comments.

“I like Eric. He’s a friend of mine, and he’s going to continue to be a friend of mine. Will he probably be in my corner? Probably not,” announced Strickland. “We have so many great guys at Xtreme [Couture], Nate, Ray Sefo, we have so many savages that I would love to corner me. But you know man, that entire fight camp was just a struggle. It was a f*cking struggle. And guys we all have excuses as to why we didn’t win or why we won and we shouldn’t have won. We all f*cking have excuses, and they don’t f*cking matter. The only reason why I’m making this video is because Eric had to go do a f*cking podcast and become an influencer, so now I gotta like alright, kind of explain myself.”

Over the next couple of minutes, Strickland would reveal a number of issues heading into UFC 312, including a broken arm, well-documented staph infection, and visa issues.

“Opportunity, and not just with fighting, opportunity never comes when it’s supposed to. It doesn’t matter what the circumstances [are], what the situation is, you will never wake up and say ‘you know, today is the perfect day for opportunity.’ It will come at the worst f*cking time. It will come at the worst time,” observed the former middleweight champ. “And how many times it comes, and you raise your hand, you say ‘you know what, I’m f*cking ready.’ A lot of the times you fail. A lot of the times you fail. But a lot of times you don’t fail. And it’s like, you must say yes.”

“This is not an excuse but that entire camp was just a struggle of ‘I’m good, I’m good’ knowing you’re not good. I was in Columbia like eight weeks out, seven weeks out, getting stem cells on a broken bone. Again, bone healed fine, not an excuse, it just kind of weighs in the back of your head. I was training with that Ridder guy [Reinier de Ridder], the submission guy, and he hit me with a whizzer. It was already broken, and I thought my arm f*cking snapped. I thought my arm snapped, I was like ‘I gotta go to Columbia, this is f*cked.'”

All of this was in the back of his head, continued Strickland, adding “you just keep telling yourself ‘I’m f*cking good.’ And I think this is what all men do. All men do this. You look in the mirror, and even though you’re not good, you’re like ‘I’m fucking good, you’re a f*cking man, you sack up.’ But all camp, the staph infection, the broken arm, having to get a visa that didn’t get approved until a week [out], not being able to get cornermen out there. This entire camp was a struggle of ‘I’m not good’ but me looking in the mirror and saying ‘sack up.’ And nothing with Dricus who came in, fought his ass off, broke my f*cking nose. Hell yeah man, hat’s off, you fought like a f*cking man.”

Responding to Nicksick questioning whether his student was fighting for belts or money – Sean Strickland has long been vocal that he’s not, in fact, fighting for belts – Strickland added that “I don’t fight to put belts on the wall, I don’t f*cking fight because Eric wants to go do a fancy podcast. That’s not why I fight. Before fighting, I had the lowest self esteem, f*cking couldn’t even look at myself in the f*cking mirror. I didn’t even know what dignity was when I first started fighting. And kind of through fighting, I’ve learned so much, I’ve met so many f*cking amazing people. Through the UFC and fight fans, you guys have changed my f*cking life. Changed my f*cking life. You’ve made me grow so much as a person, in the ring and out of the ring. And that’s why I fight. I f*cking love it.”

Strickland finished his thoughts by saying he had a lot of fights left on his contract, loved his job, and that he was going to get back in the gym, and go back to square one. It was “sack up and do it or f*cking quit,” and he’s opting to “sack up,” as he put it.

On to the next one then, though likely with a new corner.

Xtreme Couture head coach Eric Nicksick was in Sean Strickland’s corner at UFC 312 over the weekend, and didn’t like what he saw from his fighter. Which has led to Nicksick agreeing with some of the criticism that has be levied at the former champ in the days since the card in Sydney, Australia.

Strickland lost a unanimous decision in a rematch with Dricus Du Plessis that saw the American look particularly uninspired. That, in fact, was exactly the word Nicksick used during an appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show on Tuesday.

“It was just uninspired fighting to me. It just seemed like he was just sleepwalking. It was tough, man,” admitted Nicksick, who has coached Strickland, Francis Ngannou, and Aljamain Sterling to UFC titles. “I was just trying to dig him out of it through the rounds. I didn’t know if he was trying to collect data in the beginning, or if it was just a slow start, or what was going on.”

“As the rounds began to progress, I could just tell it just didn’t feel like he was in it the way most of the times that he is.”

“So it was tough, it was a tough 25 minutes, to travel all the way out there. And let’s not forget, this was a title fight, and I take these title fights very seriously,” continued Nicksick. “I don’t know. I was just disappointed, I was disappointed with the whole entire outcome, the whole fight as a process, I just thought it was kind of flat.”

Nicksick added that he really didn’t expect that sort of performance to happen from his star. “Sydney is good vibes, good ju-ju, everything that went on out there last time with Israel [Adesanya], I thought it was the place to be. I was very happy about that situation, getting back out there to fight, and getting the rematch with Dricus.” The Xtreme Couture coach was happy with Strickland’s camp, noting that he had worked on things in camp that were better this time out. “I was very excited for it. Just for that type of performance, it was just very underwhelming.”

Nicksick did confirm that his fighter had been battling a staph infection a “couple of weeks prior to us leaving [for Australia]” and had been on antibiotics, but dismissed it as a reason for why Strickland fell flat at UFC 312.

As far as agreeing with the criticism of Strickland not living up to his hype — the American has claimed willingness to fight to the death — “Yeah of course. I do. I do. We have to be real. It just was a very underwhelming performance in an opportunity to fight for a title. There’s people in this sport that never even realize that potential to ever even be in an opportunity to fight for a championship. That should be enough to get you motivated to get you off the couch.”

Nicksick took his share of the blame, noting that “It just to me was, we didn’t perform. That’s on all of us.” At the same time, he added, “I think he needs to evaluate what he wants to do in this sport. If it’s to make money, that’s great, let us know. I want to coach world champions. So my motivations are different. I think that, just to kind of show up and do that and not really back it up, to me was just uninspiring.”

Asked point blank whether he would want to stop working with Strickland were such performances to continue, coach Eric Nicksick replied by saying “Yeah, I think that that’s a fair assessment that I would have to sit down with Sean and talk to him about. Where can my services be of help for you? I think as a coach you get credit for things you don’t do essentially as much, and you get the blame for things you might not do as well. You’ve got to be right there in the middle.”

“In situations like this where your motivations might change, and if that’s the case, if his motivations have changed to something different, where it’s like ‘hey I prefer to fight for money or a paycheck,’ and it’s not to be the best or be a world champion, then yeah I think as a coach and fighter we should sit down and have that conversation. I love him, he’s a great teammate, he’s a great guy, you guys have heard me say that time and time again. But if your fights aren’t to be the best in the world and they’re for money, then that’s not really what I’m looking for. I want to compete against the best, I want to win world titles, and that’s my main focus and goal.”

Sydney – UFC welterweight Jake Matthews scored a big win over Francisco Prado at UFC 312 on Saturday night to make it two consecutive victories.

Now he just hopes he can get the streak going with a busy 2025.

“Not a rollercoaster like the last few years,” Matthews told reporters including Cageside Press about what the rest of 2025 looks like for him.

“Just too long in between fights and then like 6 months off and then fighting a guy like Michael Morales. That’s why I’m calling out Neil Magny. (I) went close decision with Michael Morales. Morales knocked out Neil. I feel like that’s just like a natural progression for me next.”

Matthews (21-7) had his leg up on the interview table for a big chunk of his post-fight scrum. Leg attacks certainly took a toll and the welterweight noted as much.

“Copped probably five or six kicks too many,” he said with a grin.

“It’ll be fine. A couple of days. It’s nothing unusual. Probably back in the gym in a week or two.”

Jimmy Crute, one of Matthews friends and teammates, fought to a draw at UFC 312 which caught Matthews by surprised.

“The guy must have rallied huh?,” Matthews says of Crute’s opponent Rodolfo Bellato.

“Jimmy’s got more ring rust than I have. He had like 500-something days out so. Just for him to get back in there to be honest, we know Jimmy like close, just for him to be able to come back and get back in the octagon it’s a big deal for him. Win, lose, or draw.”

Sydney, Australia — Australian lightweight Tom Nolan played the Grinch to Viacheslav Borshchev’s “Slava Claus” at UFC 312 over the weekend, and found himself having fun in the fight.

Which is apparently why he didn’t grapple as much as he originally anticipated, he told media outlets including Cageside Press following the bout, which saw him win a unanimous decision.

“I expected myself to grapple a little bit more, but when I was in there I just felt very comfortable on the feet,” said Nolan (9-1). “I changed a few things up with my weight cut, so I was confident in my ability to take damage, to give damage, to not get tired, and most importantly I just had fun, so when I’m having fun I like to strike.”

Nolan did show a bit of his grappling skills, however, and that might have caught Borshchev by surprise. “I just expected him to expect me to only strike. I think everyone thinks I’ll only strike, because I’ve only shown my striking. So it’s to be expected,” said Nolan, later explaining that he’d held back on his grappling in UFC fights thus far.

“I’ve said I want to keep it up my sleeve for the right fight. This wasn’t necessarily that fight in the sense of just taking him down, looking for the sub only, but it was a good opportunity to mix it up. And I think I did it at the right time.”

Tom Nolan later explained that he carries a healthy does of fear with him into his fights. It’s less about being scared of opponents, however, and more about respecting their skills.

“I wouldn’t say scared, but I always have a healthy amount of fear and respect for my opponents. I know what can happen,” he explained. “For him [Borshchev], there was a little bit of an extra touch obviously, for who he is and what he’s done. Skill for skill, I know why the UFC put this fight together. Like Dana [White] said it on that video, it’s two strikers going to punch the sh*t out of each other. So it’s like, one of us is probably going to drop, I hope it’s not me.”

Thanks to Nolan changing his weight cut, including sweating off weight for the first time since he was 19 rather than strictly dieting down, it wasn’t him who dropped.

For UFC 312, the UFC went down under for the fourth time since 2023. While, on paper, the Pay-Per-View card didn’t dazzle the fans, the event ended up producing some great chunks of action.

Jimmy Crute returned after a 19-month hiatus and fought Rodolfo Bellato to a draw in a wild back-and-forth. The debuting heavyweight giant Tallison Teixeira made quick work of Justin Tafa. And the two title fights saw the champions retain their titles in dominant fashions.

Dricus Du Plessis

Dricus Du Plessis, UFC 312 Credit: Joel Rasmussen/Cageside Press

This might have been the most technically sound performance we have seen from Du Plessis, so far. Although, while he shutout Sean Strickland on two of the judges’ scorecards, it’s not like he exactly blew him out of the water.

His next opponent is obvious, and this fight didn’t do a lot to teach us anything about how it might go down. We saw no defensive grappling from the South African, which doesn’t exactly help us understand how he’ll navigate his next challenge: Khamzat Chimaev. It’s been the obvious fight to make ever since Chimaev defeated Robert Whittaker back in October. Assuming the fight can be made without too many travelling issues from Chimaev’s camp, it should go down sometime this summer. The fans want it, Dana White wants it, and even Du Plessis wants it.

If Chimaev once again needs to wait until October to fight in Abu Dhabi, then Du Plessis can fight Nassourdine Imavov, in the meantime.

Du Plessis’ next fight: Khamzat Chimaev

Zhang Weili

Weili Zhang, UFC 312 Post-Fight Scrum
Credit: Joel Rasmussen/Cageside Press

Tatiana Suarez was seen as the uncrowned champion for many years while away with health troubles. She closed as the betting favourite seemingly because all the fans who had picked her as a lock to become a champion many moons ago wanted to put their money where their mouths are. And who can blame them when the wrestling phenom had finishes over champions like Alexa Grasso, Carla Esparza and Jessica Andrade?

All this makes what Zhang Weili accomplished on Saturday that much more impressive. She didn’t just hand the challenger her first professional defeat, she thoroughly dominated her. Zhang defended 14 of 15 takedown attempts and became the first fighter to take Suarez the the ground. At 35 years of age, “Magnum” is showing no signs of slowing down and she deserves the chance to grab a second belt. But first, Valentina Shevchenko has business with Manon Fiorot to take care of.

Zhang’s next fight: Flyweight title shot

Tallison Teixeira

Tallison Teixeira, UFC 312
Credit: Getty Images

Teixeira is 25 years old, 6’7”, and undefeated with a 100% 1st-round finish rate. In other words, he’s a legitimate heavyweight prospect and those have been an endangered species in this sport for some time. The way he folded Justin Tafa in just 35 seconds after landing just one elbow in the clinch is the type of clip the UFC should be posting on all their social media accounts.

Part of me would’ve been curious to see him go up against fellow 6’7” giant Robelis Despaigne, but the Cuban was released last year. Some people are calling for Teixeira to be fast tracked to the rankings to breathe some life into the division. At just 25, there’s no rush for him to be fighting the Derrick Lewises of the world yet, no matter how fun that matchup would be. Instead, I believe the promotion should be looking to make Teixeira their Rookie of the Year and have him fight 4, maybe even 5 times this year. The man has an average fight time of 1:56, he should have no problem getting at least one fight in every quarter of the year just like Carlos Prates did in 2024. For that, he needs an opponent who the promotion can expect to offer a relatively low amount of resistance. I went with Sean Sharaf, but Lukasz Brzeski or even the other Tafa brother are fine options as well.

Teixeira’s next fight: Sean Sharaf

Jake Matthews

Jake Matthews, UFC 312 Post-Fight Scrum
Credit: Joel Rasmussen/Cageside Press

The still only 30-year-old Matthews got a consummate, professional win on Saturday, soundly beating the young Francisco Prado, who was making a move up in weight. It wasn’t the most astonishing performance, but “The Celtic Kid” showed levels against a dangerous youngster with a 100% finish rate, with 9 of his 12 wins coming in the very first round.

Matthews called for a fight with Neil Magny. I don’t think Matthews deserves a shot at the rankings just yet, but now that Magny isn’t ranked anymore, that is a matchup I can get behind. Beating the veteran Magny would give Matthews a third consecutive victory and then he’d probably be looking at a ranked opponent. And coming off back-to-back 1st-round KO losses to Michael Morales and Carlos Prates, Magny has never looked as vulnerable as he does right now. Taking all of that into account, this was a smart and calculated callout from the Australian.

Matthews has been in the promotion for 11 years and is 10-4 in his last 14 fights. This is an opportunity he has earned the hard way, and I’m inclined to give it to him.

Matthews’ next fight: Neil Magny

UFC 312 on Saturday in Sydney, Australia, was headlined by a pair of high stakes title bouts, including the middleweight title rematch pitting champ Dricus Du Plessis vs former champ Sean Strickland.

Strickland came up short yet again against the South African, although this time the fight was not nearly as close. In the co-main event, UFC women’s strawweight champion Weili Zhang defended her title against the formerly undefeated Tatiana Suarez. The card boasted 12 total bouts with five on the main card. On the second fight on the main card, Jimmy Crute vs. Rodolfo Bellato ended in a majority draw after Bellato clawed his way back into the fight. A couple of thwarted title challengers need reasonable next steps as well as a couple of fighters on ‘hot’ seats.

Sean Strickland

Sean Strickland lost a clear-cut unanimous decision in his rematch against Dricus Du Plessis for the UFC’s middleweight strap. Strickland narrowly avoided the stoppage but had his nose badly broken in the bout. Sean has now lost two of his last five fights- both against ‘Stillknocks.’ Strickland entered the bout on Saturday as the #1 ranked middleweight.

With #3 Khamzat Chimaev likely being next in line for the title and Strickland having fought the majority of the top guys in the weight class, one name stands out. Strickland should fight Robert Whittaker in his next fight. Both are former middleweight champions and have lost two of their last five bouts. They share common opponents in Dricus Du Plessis, Israel Adesanya, Paulo Costa and Jared Cannonier. Both men were also welterweights that moved up to middleweight while under the UFC banner. Two very different types of strikers-and personalities, I could see this being a fight night headliner late in 2025. Winner would keep themselves within the elites of the middleweight division with loser likely falling deep into the latter half of the rankings.

Strickland’s next fight: Robert Whittaker

Tatiana Suarez

Tatiana Suarez had a good first round but was absolutely shut out in the remainder of her five-round title bout, losing a lopsided unanimous decision to the strawweight champion, Weili Zhang.

The loss on Saturday was the first of Tatiana’s 11-fight pro MMA career. The Ultimate Fighter Season 23 winner has struggled through a plethora of debilitating injuries. As a result, Suarez has had just three fights since mid 2019(with four cancelled bouts in the same time period). Despite these facts, Suarez entered the fight ranked #1 in the UFC’s strawweight division.

Leading into her title shot, Tatiana’s most recent win was a second-round submission against Jessica Andrade in August of 2023. A few months earlier, in February, she submitted Montana De La Rosa, also in the second round.

Suarez has been matched up to fight Virna Jandiroba multiple times in the past couple of years but injuries for both fighters cancelled both matchups. Jandiroba is scheduled to fight Yan Xiaonan on UFC 314 in April. The loser of that fight would make sense but only if Suarez is okay to wait. If not, #6 ranked Mackenzie Dern would be a good opponent. Dern has won her last two fights including her most recent fight, finishing Amanda Ribas in the third round of their bout in January. Grappler vs grappler but a wrestling base versus a jiu-jitsu base, it could be a very interesting fight for fans. The winner of this fight would likely be on the short list for a title shot, potentially needing one more win to make it a reality.

Suarez’s next fight: Mackenzie Dern or loser of Virna Jandiroba vs Yan Xiaonan

Justin Tafa

Justin Tafa was quickly crushed by UFC newcomer and 2024 Contender Series product, Tallison Teixeira at UFC 312. A well-placed elbow spelled the end of a very short night for Tafa. The disappointing outcome was Tafa’s second loss in a row, and he now is 4-5, 1 NC in the UFC.

Tafa is on the hot seat to put it mildly. If not for his brother and the shallow depth of the UFC’s heavyweight roster, Tafa might already have been cut. Tafa should revisit the bout that he fell out of last year against Marcos Rogerio de Lima. Marcos ended up fighting Justin’s brother Junior Tafa and finishing him in the second round. That fight should be rebooked giving Justin the opportunity to avenge his brother. If that fight can’t materialize then Tafa should revisit a cancelled fight with Kennedy Nzechukwu. Kennedy is supposed to fight Martin Buday in April. The loser of that fight would be perfect matchup for Tafa as well.

Tafa’s next fight: Marcos Rogerio de Lima or Loser of Kennedy Nzechukwu vs. Martin Buday.

Francisco Prado

Francisco Prado was out-struck at UFC 312 on the way to unanimous decision loss to Jake Matthews. Prado, who made his UFC debut in February of 2023 against Jamie Mullarkey, is now 1-3 with the promotion.

Kevin Jousset would be a good next opponent for Prado. Jousset fought on the undercard on Saturday losing to UFC newcomer and 2024 Contender Series product Jonathan Miacallef. Jousset is now 2-2 with the UFC and has lost two straight. Neither guy is afraid to stand and strike even if they are overmatched. Good level of competition for both men and the loser could potentially risk being cut (if it doesn’t happen before that).

Prado’s next fight: Kevin Jousset

That ‘history’ just happens to involved a second belt currently held by flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko.

“Everything is about timing so if there’s a good time for both of us to make this fight happen, it happens,” Weili told reporters including Cageside Press through a translator at her post-fight scrum.

“To be honest I don’t really care about like who is pound-for-pound number 1, number 2, it doesn’t really matter. What I care about is how can I just make myself better.”

Weili (26-3) tied former strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk for most title defenses at 115-pounds. The current champ stopped well short of calling herself the greatest strawweight of all time.

“Joanna is still the legend. When I started my MMA career I looked up (to) Joanna. I couldn’t imagine one day I could fight against her. Before this fight I text Joanna ‘Hey I’m going to fight in Sydney. Please come to watch.’ And today I saw her,” she said.

“I’m really happy.”

Everything may be about timing, but UFC CEO Dana White told the press that Weili’s team was waiting for him outside of his post-fight scrum. Weili played that down.

“Let’s talk with Dana later,” she said.

Sydney, Australia — UFC middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis wanted to end his rivalry with Sean Strickland with a dominant win at UFC 312 and he did just that on Saturday night.

“To go out there and beat him at his own game was a big, big priority. Because to go out there and fight the same fight as in Toronto, I could have done the exact same thing. But I didn’t,” Du Plessis told reporters including Cageside Press at his post-fight scrum.

“I told you guys the whole week, I’m going to try and knock him out, try and submit him, or if this went to decision, complete domination. And that’s what happened.”

Du Plessis (23-2) and Strickland kept most of the fight standing opting to strike with each other rather than wrestle. The champion thought Strickland would change his game plan to add more wrestling, but was a bit surprised when it didn’t happen.

Du Plessis actually thought Strickland might initiate wrestling, despite the middleweight champ being the one who landed the takedowns in their first meeting. “He tried at some stage, but it was too late. I just felt great.”

At one point in the fight du Plessis managed to break Strickland’s nose so bad that Strickland couldn’t stop grabbing his nose to check it. Bleeding profusely at that point Strickland managed to not get finished at that point even if the champion smelled blood.

“That was big win for me tonight, and it was a big performance. To stay calm — when I got his nose, I didn’t stay that calm, but that was me smelling blood. I got back where I needed to be, and it was an incredible performance. It felt great,” he said.

In Strickland’s corner was the UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira. Both Pereira and du Plessis have taken to social media and interviews talking of a potential matchup. Du Plessis sees other challenges at 185 pounds however with one name standing above the others.

“Khamzat’s first. I wish him – I said ‘please beat Ankalaev.’ No hate against Ankalaev, I just want to beat Alex Pereira. Nothing personal against Ankalaev, it was just, Pereira, he’s such a legend in this sport to me already that it would be amazing to beat him for my legacy. I want to be the greatest to ever do this. But Khamzat’s next,” said du Plessis.

“Khamzat is next. I want to make sure that this belt, the middleweight title, that there’s no question that I’m the GOAT of the middleweight division. And I know that, you have Anderson Silva, in my mind he is the GOAT of this division, and you have Adesanya who has done incredible things. But it’s not about how many times you defend it, it’s about who you fight, how you defend it, how you’ve done it, in what period of time have you done it, and who have you fought? And making sure there’s no question that I am the best middleweight, then going up.”

Watch the entire post-fight scrum with Dricus du Plessis above.

Sydney, Australia — Following UFC 312 on Saturday (Sunday locally in Sydney), UFC CEO and President Dana White seemed open to finding out once and for all just who the women’s pound-for-pound best is: Weili Zhang, or Valentina Shevchenko.

“Magnum” Zhang earned a one-sided unanimous decision win over Tatiana Suarez in the co-main event of UFC 312, extending her second reign as the promotion’s strawweight champ. Shevchenko is likewise in her own second reign as champion, in her case at flyweight. Both have all but cleared out their respective divisions.

Zhang has four title defenses between her reigns, Shevchenko seven. Both will one day land in the UFC Hall of Fame. Both are among the sport’s biggest stars.

While White has been hesitant to book champ versus champ fights at times, it appears he’s come around to the idea of Zhang vs. Shevchenko. Asked who he picked as the women’s P4P #1, White admitted that “I f*cking hate answering these questions, because I love them both,” before adding that “maybe we’ll just have to find out.”

Asked flat out if he’d book the super-fight, “it’s a possibility” said White.

For Dana White, it seemingly comes down to the fact that Zhang (and presumably Shevchenko as well) has earned it.

“She looked absolutely dominant tonight. She looked great. As far as I know she ‘s healthy and came out of that fight with zero injuries, so yes. The answer is yes,” White said, asked about whether he’d keep Zhang busy in 2025. Noting that the champ and her team were waiting for him in the hallway, he added “We’ll see what she wants. She’s at a point in her career right now and everything she’s accomplished that whatever she has to ask me in the hallway back here, I’m probably going to say yes.”

There’s a very good chance that Valentina Shevchenko is exactly what Weili Zhang is asking for.

UFC 312 had just three finishes, so there was going to be an odd man out when it came to Performance of the Night bonuses.

That odd man turned out to be Gabriel Santos, who submitted Jack Jenkins in the night’s featured prelim. Instead, Tallison Teixeira and Quillan Salkilld earned performance bonuses for some big finishes on Saturday. Both men were making their promotional debuts, and both did so with quick finishes. In the first fight of the night, Salkilld landed a right hand that put down India’s Anshul Jubli. The lightweight fight was over in just 19 seconds, the second-fasted debut in UFC 155lb history.

Tallison Teixeira took just a little bit longer, 35 seconds, to put away Justin Tafa. That debut on the main card saw Tafa go down off a knee to the body and elbows.

Fight of the Night honors went to the debuting Kody Steele and Rong Zhu. On his second stint with the UFC, Road to UFC alum Zhu entered coming off a loss and badly in need of a win. He got just that in an active scrap that saw him almost finish Steele in the opening round.

All four bonus-winning fighters at UFC 312 will pick up $50,000 on top of their purse, outfitting pay etc. UFC CEO and President Dana White announced an attendance of 18,253 at the Qudos Bank Arena, for an Australian indoor record gate of $7.7 million.
