Middleweight Azamat Bekoev looked to bounce back from his first loss in the UFC, and first loss since 2021, when he faced Tresean Gore on Saturday’s UFC Vegas 115 preliminary card.

Gore, a member of The Ultimate Fighter 29 who had to withdraw from the finale due to injury, was 2-4 in the UFC to date and coming off back-to-back losses himself.

Round 1 – Bekoev came out aggressively, trading leg kicks with Gore while pushing him back to the cage. Gore was countering Bekoev’s aggression with punches, not letting himself be pushed back too far. A big left kick to the body landed for Gore, causing early redness in the body of Bekoev. When Bekoev threw an overhand right, Gore was stunting his movement with combinations. Bekoev landed a big body kick of his own, pushing into a clinch and landing some dirty boxing. The two then traded body kicks, with Gore landing a spinning back fist that hurt Bekoev on the follow-up. After some cage-clinching, Bekoev found success with his overhands and a big knee up the middle.

Round 2 – Exchanges of leg kicks started the round once again, with Bekoev shooting an unsuccessful double leg on the cage. When they separated, Bekoev landed a pair of right hands that dropped Gore, following up with some massive ground and pound. Gore quickly worked back to his feet, eating a big right hand but firing back some big hooks of his own that landed clean. After brawling for a second, Bekoev went back to his grappling and landed a double leg takedown. Gore worked up and landed some nice uppercuts in the clinch, but Bekoev stayed aggressive with some clean elbows. After pushing through a combination, Bekoev landed his own pair of big hooks into another takedown. Gore then stood up and landed a bodylock takedown of his own from the cage. Bekoev worked back up but was held in a clinch until Gore separated and landed some bombs when the 10-second clapper went off.

Round 3 – Gore came out the fresher fighter, immediately landing a massive overhand at range. A big leg kick wobbled Bekoev, whose leg seemed badly compromised at this point. Gore remained calm and kept his range, landing when Bekoev left openings or came forward. Bekoev entered on a double leg but was quickly reversed and found himself taken down again. Gore secured top control in half guard, slowly working his way to mount. When Bekoev attempted to get up, he was smashed with an elbow as Gore hopped on an arm triangle. While Bekoev worked out, Gore jumped back on top in a sprawl position, locking up his patented guillotine.

Bekoev was trapped in an awful position against the cage, and put to sleep by the choke. Tresean Gore gets a much-needed win while handing Bekoev his second loss in a row.

Official Result: Tresean Gore def. Azamat Bekoev by submission (guillotine choke), Round 3, 3:27

Vieira (10-3) is a well-known Jiu Jitsu ace with plenty of MMA experience. With a 5-3 record in the UFC he holds victories over Cody Brundage, Armen Petrosyan and Derek Brunson. He came into the fight off a decision loss to Andre Petroski.

Gore (5-3) was already on thin ice with a 2-3 UFC record, but missing weight by 3.5 pounds on Friday morning may have his back against the wall. A decisive victory over Vieira may get him off the short list of cuts, but in this world of MMA missing weight is absolutely a no-go.

Round 1

Vieira came out landing jabs up top and to the body. Vieira shot in for a takedown, but Gore was able to stuff it quickly. Vieira tried another takedown, but that got stuffed too. Gore went with leg kicks before stuffing another takedown.

Gore landed a nasty calf kick, but didn’t follow it with anything. Vieira waited a few seconds and then finally scored a takedown. He laced Gore’s legs and Gore had fight pretty hard to get back to his feet, but he got away from Vieira.

The round ended with Gore landing another calf kick and stuffing another takedown attempt.

Round 2

Jabs from both men land. Gore looked more willing to exchange knowing he’s been able to stop takedowns or get back up rather quickly. Vieira landed a heavy 1-2 and then shot in, but got stuff again.

Vieira began to land 1-2s on Gore and then shot in again going for the single leg, but again nothing from it. Vieira got poked in the eye getting him some time to recover.

Once time in was called Gore landed a heavy right hand, but that was all he could muster before the round ended. Really odd fight from Gore.

Round 3

Gore came out with some urgency…right into a bunch of jabs from Vieira. Vieira fired away with heavy shots deciding to meet Gore’s aggressiveness. Gore fired away and landed, but it was all single shots. Vieira kept throwing 2-3 shots per combo. He went in for a takedown, but got stuffed again.

Vieira continued to land combinations and Gore being unable or unwilling to match his output gave the Brazilian a lot of confidence.

Round ended with Vieira shooting for another takedown. Pretty clear victory for Rodolfo Vieira.

Official Result: Rodolfo Vieira def. Tresean Gore via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 30-27, 30-27)

The second fight of the night at UFC 314 saw middleweights Tresean Gore and Marco Tulio square off early. Gore, whose career with the promotion had been repeatedly interrupted by injuries, was riding a two fight win streak that saw him finish Josh Fremd in 2022 and Antonio Trocoli, last November.

Tulio, a two-time Contender Series vet, was coming off his UFC debut in January, a first-round thrashing of Ihor Potieria.

When the action got started it was Tulio who struck first, throwing out a few leg strikes while Gore struggled to find the target. Gore was able to land, but had to continue wadding forward, hands high, into stinging jabs. A couple minutes into the round and Tulio began to really open up landing leg strikes at will. Gore cracked Tulio with hook that flashed Tulio and dropped him momentarily. Tulio quickly scrambled to his feet and the pace continued. With a couple minutes left in the round, Gore’s face was a mask of blood from Marco’s jab. Marco continued to step on the gas tagging both the body and head of Gore. With under a minute left Tulio dropped Gore and landed some mean ground and pound. Gore managed to return to his feet momentarily, stunning his opponent with a blind overhand. The end of the round saw Gore retreating against the fence narrowly evading some flashy attacks.

The second round saw Tulio go right back to the well landing kicks to the leg and body before landing upstairs with jabs. Gore continued to move forward with his hands high but ate some more beautiful bodywork. Tresean kept moving forward looking to get something going but Tulio’s left hand continued to snap Gore’s head back. Tulio thru a low teep that hit Gore in the cup and momentarily paused the action. Looking anxious to get going again, Gore adamantly signaled he was ready again after a brief break.

When the action resumed, and Tulio went right back to thudding and effective leg kicks. Marco was putting on a clinic- landing virtually everything, especially to the body, as Gore began to wilt. Mid way thru the round, Tulio suddenly changed the script and went high with a kick surprising and dropping Gore. Tulio sprang on Gore unloading ground and pound. The fight looked moments from being stopped. Gore miraculously escaped but wasn’t fully recovered, looking out on his feet.

Tulio leapt in missing with a flying knee but closed the distance- before landing a perfect straight punch crumpling Tresean. the referee steeped in and signaled the end of the fight.

In the post-fight octagon interview Marco revealed that he had broken his hand during the fight. Tulio went on to reveal that he broke his hand in the first round but continued to chase the finish. Tulio would go on to call out Marvin Vettori for his next opponent in the cage, looking forward to his next war.

Official Result: Marco Tulio def. Tresean Gore by TKO, Round 2, 3:16

A two-year layoff for The Ultimate Fighter 29‘s Tresean Gore came to an end on Saturday, when he faced Antonio Trocoli at UFC Vegas 100.

As it turned out, the wait was worth it.

Injury had kept Gore out, and he wasted no time exploding into a takedown early in , looking as if rust was not going to be an issue. Trocoli, returning to action after making his promotional debut over the summer, was quickly back up; the pair remained in a clinch, reversing once or twice before Gore locked up a standing guillotine.

As awkward as it might seem, Gore had the choke in tight. Trocoli didn’t last long, soon forced to tap, giving Gore a hugely impressive victory in his long-awaited return to action.

As it turns out, the win is Tresean Gore’s second straight by guillotine, albeit just over two years apart. Speaking to Michael Bisping following the victory, Gore said that “I’m so grateful, there was so much riding on this. I’m happy to be back. I’ve got so many tricks up my sleeve.”

“You stick your neck in there, I’ll take it home. You’re all going to have to learn to respect,” Gore would add, promising that he would keep leveling up.

“Unfortunately I am out of my fight for this weekend and I’m extremely sad about it but the truth is I’m not Healthy and I may have to get a surgery that will have me out 6 months to a Year torn Scafoid Ligament in one of my wrist!

I feel extremely bummed but I will still be Champion and I will still prove I’m better than this dude and I’m an Elite fighter but I have to get healthy before anything.

As of now I’m avoiding surgery but I have rounds of stem cell treatment to do until I heal up.”

Gore was coming off a submission victory over Josh Fremd in Oct 2022. His fight with Nickal was announced as part of a stacked UFC 290 main card happening this Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Nickal (4-0) is undefeated coming into UFC 290. He last fought at UFC 285 where he submitted Jamie Pickett in the first round.

Nickal now waits for a replacement opponent for this weekend’s PPV event. Fans and fighters alike have begun joking about the possibility of someone like Sean Strickland stepping up last second to fight Nickal.

Strickland headlined UFC Vegas 76 where he defeated Abus Magomedov in the second round. If he came out of that fight unscathed it may be something worth looking into.

UFC 290 takes place July 8 in Las Vegas. Headlined by two title fights including the featherweight and flyweight titles it is, so far, the most stacked card of the year as part of the UFC’s annual International Fight Week event.

Las Vegas, NV – Once again we’ve reached International Fight Week for the UFC’s biggest card of the year so far, UFC 290, with two title fights on the main card, and a slate of big matchups in the fight capital of the world on July 8.

Headlining the event will be the unification of the featherweight titles as champion Alexander Volkanovski takes on interim champion Yair Rodriguez. Volkanovsi is coming off challenging for the lightweight title on the same night that Rodriguez became interim champ.

In the co-main event yet another rematch for flyweight champion Brandon Moreno as he defends his title against Alexandre Pantoja. Moreno is coming off sealing the quadrilogy with Deiveson Figueiredo, and Pantoja hopes to have a repeat of their first fight where he defeated Moreno. This time the stakes are much higher this time around for both men.

On the main card is what many see as a title eliminator in the middleweight division as former champion Robert Whittaker looks for another shot at the champ, Israel Adesanya, but first he must get past Dricus Du Plessis. Du Plessis is undefeated in the UFC and looks to get a shot at Adesanya sooner than later.

Another bout in the middleweight division involves one of the brightest young stars in Bo Nickal taking on Tresean Gore. Nickal is 4-0 in his professional career with all finishes, and Gore on a 1-2 run in the UFC looks for a much needed victory at UFC 290.

These four bouts are featured in the countdown show above.

Standout collegiate wrestler Bo Nickal had a big (and just slightly controversial) UFC debut last month. Now, he has his second assignment set.

Nickal (4-0) will face Tresean Gore (4-2) in a middleweight match-up at UFC 290 on July 8, 2023.

Gore revealed in March that he had signed on to face Nickal; in a video appearance with betr released Friday, Nickal confirmed that match-up. “I’ll be fighting UFC 290, Las Vegas, July 8th against Tresean Gore,” the undefeated prospect acknowledged.

Nickal’s debut was a quick one, as he ran through Jamie Pickett at UFC 285 on March 4. An arm-triangle locked up the win for Nickal, though Pickett would later complain that a low blow had led to the takedown that set up the finish.

A three-time NCAA Division I wrestling champ, Nickal is one of the hottest prospects to enter the UFC in years.

Gore, meanwhile, will enter the fight off the first win of his UFC tenure. That came care of a submission victory against Josh Fremd last fall. Gore broke into the UFC via The Ultimate Fighter 29, and was expected to compete in the show’s finale, only for an injury to force him out of the fight.

He would eventually get a shot at the TUF 29 champ, Bryan Battle, losing a decision in their eventual meeting in February 2022.

The only other fight reported for UFC 290 thus far finds featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski in a title unification bout with interim champ Yair Rodriguez. The card takes place July 8 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV.

UFC Vegas 63 this past weekend didn’t have the sort of finish capping off the night that anyone wanted to see. Instead of a bang, the main event ended with a fizzle as Calvin Kattar injured his knee late in the first round (and then marched out for the second despite his corner being aware of the injury, and the cageside doc giving him what amount to a single-question survey on his well-being).

On the flipside, the fight goes down as a win for Arnold Allen — so where does the Brit and the other big winners from Saturday night go next?

Arnold Allen

Although it may not have ended exactly how he wanted it to, Arnold Allen beat Calvin Kattar in UFC Vegas 63’s main event and showed that he can hang with the elite of the division by out-striking Kattar even before the injury. Undefeated in the UFC and now on a ten-fight winning streak in the promotion, Allen has clearly earned at the very least a number one contender fight. However, with the champion planning to move up to lightweight to fight Islam Makhachev in 2023, the time seems right for the Brit to get his first title shot and face fellow streaking contender Josh Emmett for an interim belt. Even if the UFC decides that an interim belt is not the play to make, Allen against Emmett is still the fight to make to determine the number one contender and next title challenger.

Allen’s Next Fight: Josh Emmett

Max Griffin

On Saturday, Max Griffin rebounded from his loss against the top-15 ranked Neil Magny by beating veteran Tim Means. Almost no one outside of the rankings has had as tough of a UFC schedule as Griffin since his debut in 2016 against Colby Covington. Since then, he has fought the likes of Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos, Mike Perry, Curtis Millender, Thiago Alves, Alex ‘Cowboy’ Oliveira, Carlos Condit, and the aforementioned Magny. Due to this, his 7-7 record in the UFC is much more impressive than it seems at first glance. Another dynamic fighter on the verge of a ranking is ‘Khaos’ Williams and he would make a perfect opponent for Max Griffin in a fight that would be sure to entertain.

Griffin’s Next Fight: ‘Khaos’ Williams

Waldo Cortes-Acosta

Cortes-Acosta beat fellow DWCS veteran Jared Vanderaa on Saturday night in a close fight. The former baseball player had difficulty with defending low kicks and stifling the movement of Vanderaa but was still able to maintain his perfect record and pick up his first UFC victory.

A logical next opponent for Waldo would be the always entertaining and highly personable Chris ‘Beast Boy’ Barnett, who picked up his second UFC win against Jake Collier recently. The two big men would be sure to put together an entertaining fight and as an added bonus, both have an affinity for dancing in the cage; Barnett is known for break dancing after wins and during walkouts while Cortes-Acosta showed off some salsa dancing skills against Vanderaa.

Cortes-Acosta’s Next Fight: Chris Barnett

Tresean Gore

‘The Ultimate Fighter’ veteran Tresean Gore, who earned a spot in the finals of the show’s 29th season but unfortunately had to pull out with an injury, picked up his first UFC win at UFC Vegas 63 after losing his first two efforts in the promotion. At only 28-years of age with only six pro fights under his belt, Gore has all the time in the world to put together a run towards the rankings, but for now should be booked against fellow entertaining fighters who are still trying to round out their games. Enter Denis Tiuliulin. Tiuliulin picked up his first UFC win with a violent knockout of Jamie Pickett at UFC 279 and would be a perfect opponent to test Tresean against as he looks to figure out his identity as a fighter.

Gore’s Next Fight: Denis Tiuliulin

Khalil Rountree Jr.

The always entertaining Khalil Rountree picked up his third win in a row at UFC Vegas 63, this time against a former GLORY kickboxer as he beat Dustin Jacoby by split decision in an absolute war.

Jacoby came into the fight ranked 13th in the world, so Rountree should see a ranking next to his name on Tuesday despite the somewhat controversial nature of the decision. A good fellow ranked opponent for Khalil to fight would be former title challenger Volkan Oezdemir, who just dropped a decision to Nikita Krylov at UFC 280. Oezdemir, ranked 10th in the world, would present a compelling striking match-up for a Muay Thai specialist in Rountree and the two fighter’s timelines match up, having fought their last fight only a week apart from each other.

Rountree’s Next Fight: Volkan Oezdemir

It was individual performances being recognized when the dust cleared following Saturday’s UFC Vegas 63, and leading the way was Ultimate Fighter alum Tresean Gore.

The middleweight turned heads with his guillotine choke finish of Josh Fremd on the main card — particularly Fremd’s head, with the choke being almost half neck-crank, and particularly violent. Fremd would go out in the end, with Gore picking up the technical submission win.

Ahead of the fight, Gore had spoken of his mother’s battle with diabetes, including having a leg amputated. Emotional at times, he clearly came into Saturday night extremely motivated.

Also picking up some extra cash at UFC Vegas 63 was Roman Dolidze, who tore up Phil Hawe’s knee prior to knocking out his wounded opponent. Part of the featured prelim of the Las Vegas-based card, Dolidze improved to three straight wins, and earned his second consecutive knockout finish.

Steve Garcia, meanwhile, cashed in for his knockout of Chase Hooper, also on the preliminary card. Finally, Christian Rodriguez was rewarded for his card opener with newcomer Josh Weems. Rodriguez locked up an anaconda choke on Weems in the opening round to claim victory over an opponent who had missed weight for the fight.

All four Performance of the Night bonus winners will come away from UFC Vegas 63 with an extra $50,000 for their efforts.

An emotional Tresean Gore spoke of his mother losing a leg to diabetes ahead of UFC Vegas 63, making the TUF alum no doubt severely motivated ahead of Saturday’s match-up with LFA vet Josh Fremd.

Gore certainly started out like it, driving straight into a takedown at putting Fremd on his back. Fremd defended with a guillotine, but did not have it, though moments later they’d be back to their feet. There, Gore put the pressure on once more, forcing Fremd to defend another takedown with his back to the fence. Before long, Gore scooped Fremd up and slammed him down, drawing a reaction from the limited crowd in attendance at the UFC Apex.

From there, Gore took the back and got both hooks in, with a full half round still to work. A scramble saw Fremd escape, and he attacked with a few leg kicks back at range. He began adding some right hands up top, and backed Gore up, this time initiating the clinch himself.

In the second round, Tresean Gore decided to take Josh Fremd’s head home with him as a trophy. Almost literally. Gore caught Fremd in a standing guillotine choke as he was coming in, moved with Fremd as he went down — at one point taking Fremd off his feet, though Fremd helped by wall-walking — and kept the pressure on. Fremd went to sleep, and Gore went directly to the winner’s circle. Absolutely nasty submission, and one that will live on in highlight reels for years to come.

https://twitter.com/FireMMAVids/status/1586506615536115713

Official Result: Tresean Gore def. Josh Fremd by technical submission (guillotine choke), Round 2, 0:49
