Teixeria looked to be winning on all judge’s scorecards but was submitted by Prochazka in the final 30 seconds of the fight. In the co-main event, Valentina Shevchenko won a split decision over Taila Santos to retain her flyweight title. Also on the card, Joanna Jedrzejczyk retired from the sport of MMA after her first-round knockout loss to Zhang Weili. Today we will be looking at what is next for the losers of UFC 275.

Glover Teixeira

After his loss this past weekend, Teixeira asked Daniel Cormier how he looked in the fight. DC responded by saying he looked good and looked like he had more left in the tank. Teixeira responded, ” I guess I will keep going then.” At 42 years old it is possible that Teixeira could make another run at getting his title back. In his next fight, Teixeira should have a rematch with Jan Blachowicz.

Blachowicz knocked out Aleksander Rakic in his most recent fight and was ranked number one in the division before this past weekend. A fight between Teixeira and Blachowicz could be considered a number one contender fight. As both men would be great opponents for Prochazka’s next fight.

There’s a chance, however, that Blachowicz gets the next title shot. In which case, give Teixeira the winner of Smith vs. Ankalaev, which should have the same outcome: an eventual title shot.

Taila Santos

Taila Santos looked amazing in her loss this past weekend. Valentine Shevchenko has dominated everyone she has fought for a long time and Santos gave her a serious run for her money. Santos was able to take her down a few times and was also able to beat Shevchenko up on the ground a good bit. She is definitely worthy of an immediate rematch and should get one. That said, she’ll need some time off due to her broken orbital, which requires surgery — so don’t expect this soon. Shevchenko will likely take a fight in between.

Joanna Jedrzejczyk

No matchmaking necessary here. Joanna Jedrzejczyk hung up the gloves following UFC 275. The former women’s strawweight champion still holds the 115 pound record for title defenses at five. Next up for Joanna is likely a Hall of Fame induction, perhaps as soon as next year.

Andre Fialho

Andre Fialho was knocked out in the second round of his welterweight bout with Jake Matthews at UFC 275. This loss makes Fialho 2-2 in the UFC with three of his four UFC fights ending in knockout. Fialho is an extremely exciting fighter and should get another fight in the UFC soon, though maybe not at the breakneck pace he had been competing at. In his next fight, he should be looking to keep his run of knockouts going by fighting a young talented striker.

Philip Rowe is 22-1 in the UFC with both of his wins being second-round knockouts. Rowe is a powerful striker with a good grappling game. Making him the best match-up for Fialho in his next fight.

Ramazan Emeev

Jack Della Maddalena knocked out Ramazan Emeev in the first round at UFC 275. That is the second straight loss for Emeev, who is now 5-3 in the promotion.

Song Kenan hasn’t fought since a knockout at the hands of Max Griffin last year. Prior to that setback, Kenan had won two straight. The Chinese fight is 18-6 and doesn’t have a fight scheduled. If he’s ready to come back, book him against Emeev.

The pair’s welterweight showdown opened up the PPV portion of the show, which for the first time saw a numbered UFC event hosted in Singapore.

Emeev was looking to bounce back from a loss to Danny Roberts last time out. He’d barely get going, however, before his night was over.

With the action underway, Emeev worked the body, Maddalena focused on his jab, and Emeev changed levels just over a minute in. From there, he completed the takedown, but Maddalena almost immediately regained his feet— right into a choke! Maddalena gutted it out as Emeev rolled into the anaconda choke, and somehow survived.

Back on the feet, Maddalena then took control. He backed Emeev up, missing with a few swings then clipping Emeev with a right. It was a left hand to the body that crumpled Emeev, however, who turtled up on the canvas. Standing over him, Maddalena landed left and rights until the ref waved it off!

Emeev had entered the fight with a noticeable red patch on his body, whether that factored in or not wasn’t clear — but he certainly didn’t like that body shot.

On Thursday, the UFC announced on social media that Australia’s Jack Della Maddalena will fight Ramazan Emeev at UFC 275 on June 12 in Singapore. In the same post, it was announced Seung Woo Choi will fight Joshua Culibao at the very same event.

Maddalena (11-2) had a successful UFC debut in January. At UFC 270, he knocked out Pete Rodriguez in less than three minutes. The Australian fighter is riding an 11-fight win streak and has finished all but one of his opponents. Maddalena is already considered one of the most exciting fighters on the roster.

Emeev (20-5) had his two-fight win streak snapped last October when he lost a split decision to Danny Roberts. Prior to losing, the Russian beat David Zawada and Niklas Stolze.

Choi (10-4) was submitted by Alex Caceres in his last outing, snapping his three-fight win streak. The Korean fighter put together three wins after dropping his first two UFC fights. He beat Suman Mokhtarian in 2019 and then Youssef Zalal and Julian Erosa in 2021, receiving a Performance of the Night bonus for his knockout of Erosa. Choi was scheduled to fight Tucker Lutz in March but pulled out with an injury.

Culibao (9-1-1) picked up his first UFC win last May by defeating Shayilan Nuerdanbieke via unanimous decision. “Kuya” fought Charles Jourdain to a draw in 2020, and in his UFC debut, he was knocked out by Jalin Turner.

UFC 275 will take place in Singapore on June 11, 2022 and will feature two title fights.

Former M-1 Global middleweight champion Ramazan Emeev was looking to make it three in a row at UFC Vegas 40 on Saturday, against Danny Roberts.

“Hot Chocolate” Roberts entered off a single win, over Zelim Imadaev, but hadn’t competed since that 2019 fight in Moscow, Russia. Emeev, who had competed on that very same card, had fought twice since.

Roberts came out on his bike immediately, looking for the right hand and trying his best to stay out of Emeev’s range. Emeev got a great takedown halfway through the round, and Roberts used a triangle attempt to get back to the feet. Roberts then went back but still struggled to land shots at range, winging and missing most shots. Roberts shot for his own takedown in the final minute of round one but was unable to get it, in large part due to Emeev threatening with a guillotine attempt.

Emeev creatively flipped Roberts over and got the takedown to start round two. Roberts quickly got back to the feet and landed a great left hook before Emeev shot for another takedown, that Roberts stuffed. Roberts then landed a quick 1-2 that landed clean, but Emeev soon got a huge takedown after cutting Roberts in the forehead. Roberts tried to scramble but got caught in a guillotine attempt that Roberts fought out of. Roberts shot for his own takedown that Emeev defended to end a hectic round two.

Round three saw some more crazy scrambles, with Emeev and Roberts trading takedown attempts. The biggest moment in the round coming when Emeev shot for a takedown that was sprawled on by Roberts. He answered with a four-punch combination before pressing Emeev to the fence. Emeev reversed position but then Roberts reversed him and landed a big left hook. Emeev followed up with a left hook that wobbled Roberts, but he wasn’t hurt that badly. Roberts and Emeev ended the grueling fight swinging for the fences.

The 30-27 score from one judge didn’t sit well with many, but Danny Roberts earned the split decision win.

MMA Fighting was the first to report the news that The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 3 winner Warlley Alves will fight Ramazan Emmev on June 26 at a yet-to-be-announced UFC event. Both fighters would subsequently confirm the booking on their Instagram Stories.

Alves (14-4) returned in fantastic fashion early this year on ‘Fight Island.’ He finished hot prospect Mounir Lazzez in less than three minutes with a body kick. The TKO of Lazzez earned the Brazilian a Performance of the Night bonus. Alves had been out of action for 14 months prior.

Emeev (20-4) was also victorious on ‘Fight Island’ in January. A week before Alves finished Lazzez, Emeev defeated David Zawada via a split decision. The win was his second in a row and boosted him to 5-1 in the UFC. The Russian is a former M-1 middleweight champion.

With the latest addition, the UFC’s June 26 fight card now includes the following match-ups:

Emeev and Zawada each entered the fight off single wins, with Zawada having submitted Abubakar Nurmagomedov in November 2019. He’d been out all of 2020, after bouts with Anthony Rocco Martin and Mounir Lazzez fell through. Emeev, meanwhile, had won a unanimous decision against Niklas Stolze last July, in the Russian’s only fight of 2020.

To open the affair, third fight in on the UFC Fight Island 7 card on Saturday, Emeev threw an awkward looking right hand. He made up for it moments later, catching Zawada with another right. After some back-and-forth, Emeev managed to score a takedown, but Zawada was back up quickly, and throwing hands. The pair then clinched, trading knees. Eventually, Emeev would take the fight back down, while Zawada defended with a kimura.

The kimura wasn’t to be, and Emeev landed some heavy shots as Zawada climbed back to his feat. Those unanswered, undefended shots were heavy, but Zawada seemed to eat them without issue.

Opening the second, Emeev changed levels and put Zawada on his back with a textbook takedown. Zawada stayed busy off his back, while Emeev worked inside the guard. Emeev wound up back on his feet, and came close to eating an upkick. Zawada fired a nasty kick to the outside of Emeev’s lead leg — the type of kick that can quickly change the course of a fight. Emeev would need to keep an eye on those; he had eaten a couple in the opening round as well, and he leg was starting to look a little worse for the wear.

A seemingly accidental late blow, immediately after the buzzer to end round two, opened up a gushing cut near the eye of Zawada. Emeev opened the third with an immediate takedown, perhaps recognizing that his opponent was compromised. Zawada powered back up, but risked exposing his neck. Emeev wound up holding onto a choke a little too long, and found himself on his back, Zawada in side control. In his best sequence of the fight, Zawada worked his way to mount — only for Emeev to scramble free. That likely dashed any hopes of a Zawada victory, although the bout was close, and a split decision in the end.

A former two-time M-1 Global middleweight champion, Emeev was highly touted upon entering the UFC. Despite coming up short against Anthony Rocco Martin in 2019, big things were expected of him. With two straight wins under his belt, it appears the Russian is back on track.

Downright disappointed. “I’m feeling good, but I’m just not happy with my performance,” he told Cageside Press following the bout. “I want to finish fights early.”

Part of the issue was the location of the bout. As positive an experience as Fight Island has been for some fighters, Emeev’s stay there added some obstacles in training. “The last four weeks I was on an island, didn’t get proper training, training partners. It’s not the same as training in the gym,” he said.

Opponent Nicolas Dalby, who came into the fight on short notice, was perhaps another factor. “I didn’t expect it to be that hard of a fight, but I guess he is a good fighter and he wanted to impress you,” Emeev opined.

And so next time out, expect a different Emeev to enter the octagon. “I’m going to change some stuff. I’m going to come to train really hard,” he promised. “My last fights, five fights, I had a decision and I really don’t want a decision next time. I want to get a stoppage for a change. I’m going to add something into my wrestling, into my kicks, punches. I’ll try my best to get the finish.”

Still, it’s hard to find fault with the former M-1 Global champ’s UFC run thus far. With the win over Dalby, Emeev (19-4) improved to 4-1 inside the octagon.

We caught up with Stolze ahead of his debut, where he told us that he was ready to carry the flag for German MMA. Saturday represented his first real opportunity to do so.

Stolze early on was landing low calk kicks that looked very heavy. That forced Emeev to shoot early, and he did get a takedown. Stolze got back up quickly however. After a takedown attempt, Emeev threatened with a front choke but Stolze got back to his feet. A nice wizard from Stoltze saw him avoiding the takedown in the later half of the round. A double leg takedown landed for Emeev and while a guillotine seemed in, Emeev escaped quite easily. In the closing seconds of round one Stolze landed a knee hurting Emeev at the bell.

Stolze was walking Emeev down early in the second, looking like the much fresher fighter. He was finding a lot of success landing the leg kick which was slowing Emeev’s forward motion. Emeev was landing well with long strikes. Stolze wasn’t nearly as active in the later part of round two. Emeev was blitzing in and landing well. Also the jab from Emeev was landing, and he was hitting the target much more.

At the start of the final round Ramazan Emeev shot in for the takedown and pressed Stolze to the cage. Stolze got out of that position after surviving an rear-naked choke and a nice knee off the break. Stolze actually mixed it up and secured a takedown of his own. Too little, too late as Emeev had more success with knees in the clinch, a nice jab, and his one-two.

How will Stolze fare in the UFC:

Niklas Stolze is a kickboxer by trade. He’ll actively attack the legs and body and throw them at the end and the start of combinations. He has a very sneaky head kick as well holding a knockout win going that way.

Stolze throws with a good output, being hard to read throwing something different every time. He does hold his hands low which is a big concern because he isn’t particularly quick enough to get away with it. His striking/kickboxing is where he’s at his best but he does have the ability to secure takedowns as well. I’m not sold on his wrestling as he’s taken down mainly lower-level competition, and he’s not blowing me away with how he does it. Still, on the mat, Stolze does well with four rear-naked chokes.

Takedown defense wise, Stolze needs work as he can be taken down multiple times in a fight. With that said, he’s gotten away with being taken down multiple times in a fight because he’s darn good at getting back to his feet. Stolze is good at using the cage and putting his feet on the hips and exploding up. His cardio does well throughout two rounds but does slow as the fight goes on. Stolze is pretty decent everywhere but doesn’t have that one weapon that will blow you away. In my opinion, he fits the bill as a mid-tier fighter at the moment.

How he matches up with Emeev:

Ramazan is a veteran who will have the UFC experience and has no doubt fought the better competition. I don’t really see a path to victory for Stolze in his debut as I think Emeev is better everywhere.

Tim Means will be fighting at home next month. The Albuquerque Journal was first to report that longtime welterweight Means, who last appeared at UFC on ESPN 7 in Washington, D.C. back in December, will face Ramazan Emeev at UFC Rio Rancho in February. Means later confirmed his addition to the event on social media.

It’s a card Means (29-11-1, 1NC) expressed interest in following his win over Thiago Alves at UFC DC. Submitting Alves via guillotine, ‘The Dirty Bird’ fought out his contract that night. The UFC has opted to retain the 35-year old’s services, so it’s onward and upward for Means.

Born in Oklahoma, Means has fought out of Albuquerque, New Mexico for years. He first joined the UFC in 2012, and is currently on his second stint with the promotion. 2-1 in his past three, Means promised to “sell the sh*t out of tickets” when asked about the Rio Rancho card last month.

Ramazan Emeev (18-4) will enter the fight off the first loss of his UFC tenure. Emeev got off to a solid start in the octagon, winning three straight, including his 2017 debut against Sam Alvey at middleweight. He dropped to welterweight after the Alvey fight, continuing to find success until he ran up against Anthony Rocco Martin at last year’s UFC Moscow.

Rio Rancho will mark Emeev’s first fight on U.S. soil.

UFC Rio Rancho (UFC Fight Night 167) takes place February 15, 2020 at the Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. A rematch between light heavyweights Corey Anderson and Jan Blachowicz tops the card.
