The former Cage Legacy champion looked to make her way up the rankings in the strawweight division.

Tomar (9-4)

Round 1 both ladies came out firing side kicks to the lead legs before Tomar rushed in with strikes forcing Bannon to grab her put her on the fence.

Tomar got away and landed some shots on Bannon who played defense well. Bannon took the inside position and landed on Tomar taking advantage that she was real close to the fence.

Bannon took advantage of her opponent being unable to get away from the fence and landed a nasty head kick up close. A low blow from Tomar caused a timeout, and Bannon came out on fire when the clock started again.

Both ladies went in on a super aggressive exchange where both landed significant shots.

Round ended with Bannon landing a right hand up top.

Round 2 Bannon continued her side kick attacks forcing Tomar on the back foot once again. Tomar was clearly having issues dealing with those side kicks messing with her timing and game plan.

A spectacular head kick dropped Bannon just over 2 minutes, but found herself caught in an arm bar. After about 30 seconds of adjusting Bannon was able to get the elbow in the right place scoring the first finish of the night.

Official Result: Shauna Bannon def. Puja Tomar via R2 SUB (Arm Bar), 3:22

Next year’s UFC London card has begun booking fights, and Irish star Shauna Bannon will be among those taking part.

“Mama B” Bannon (6-1) is set to face ONE Championship alum Puja Tomar (9-4) at the event, set for the O2 Arena in London, England on March 22, 2025.

News of the women’s strawweight booking was first announced by First Round Management.

Bannon is a former Invicta FC fighter and Cage Legacy strawweight champ. She entered the UFC last year, losing her debut opposite Bruna Brasil, before returning nearly a year to the date to defeat Alice Ardelean. Both fights went the distance.

The 31-year old now gets India’s Tomar, who competed for the Super Fight League early in her career, before moving to ONE Championship. That run saw Tomar struggle, going 1-3 through four fights in MMA while also losing to Bi Nguyen Muay Thai. Tomar turned things around starting in 2021, however, setting off on a five-fight unbeaten streak that continues to this day. She has avenged her loss to Nguyen during her current hot streak (this time in an MMA fight), and was victorious in her UFC debut, claiming a split decision win over Rayanne Amanda.

2025’s UFC London card doesn’t have a main event officially announced; more bouts will no doubt be revealed in the coming weeks.

Indian strawweight Puja Tomar kicked off the UFC Louisville card on Saturday in her promotional debut, taking on Brazil’s Rayanne Amanda dos Santos.

Tomar, a veteran of ONE Championship (where she competed in both MMA and Muay Thai), had struggled in steps up in competition under the ONE banner, falling to Stamp Fairtex and Jihin “Shadowcat” Radzuan, among others. Tomar had won her last four fights, however, while Rayanne Amanda was looking to bounce back from a loss in her own UFC debut.

When the fight started both ladies started swinging early getting after it. Tomar was going a good job of throwing kicks to the body from range. Dos Santos landed a right over the top at one point. Tomar landed a couple of those body kicks that seemed to hurt Amanda but she hid the pain well. Amanda was throwing kicks as well but wasn’t landing at the rate Tomar was. Tomar was the better striker in round one with the kicks to the body alone. It forced Santos to closes the distance and try to get dirty with punches in bunches on the inside. She landed a good combination and was the fresher fighter to close the opening round.

In round two Tomar opened up with another sidekick to the body. Dos Santos was forced to pressure in because Tomar was too active with those effective kicks. Not just to the body but Tomar was attacking the legs as well. Dos Santos was using a lot of feints but they weren’t doing her any good when Tomar was setting the pace. When Dos Santos closed the distance she had success with her hands plus some body kicks of her own. Dos Santos finally attempted a takedown but seemed to just give up on it. In the final minute of the round Dos Santos was the one coming forward swinging and winning those short in-tight exchanges.

In the final round it was a tight fight leading into the final round. Again, Tomar kept active with those sidekicks to the body. She was failing to do anything outside of that. They were landing but it wasn’t anything impactful later in the fight. Rayane Amanda dos Santos at one point was able to close the distance and put Tomar against the cage. Nothing came out of it and Tomar put Santos off balance with another sidekick to the midsection. Santos got some momentum landing some big shots against the cage. Tomar obliged screaming at Dos Santos and swinging back. It the final seconds Dos Santos was landing some wide hooks to end the fight, but it wasn’t enough, and Puja Tomar took the split decision win.

Official Result: Puja Tomar def. Rayanne dos Santos by split decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)

India’s Puja Tomar makes her promotional debut at UFC Louisville this Saturday in a strawweight match-up with Rayanne Amanda. Tomar is a ONE Championship vet, and making her debut early on a card headlined by middleweights Jared Cannonier and Nassourdine Imavov.

Puja “The Cylone” Tomar
Standing at five-foot-one
Fighting at 115 lbs (strawweight)
30-years-old
Fighting out of Muzaffarnagar, India
Training out of Soma Fight Club
A pro record of 8-4
6 KO/TKOs

How Tomar will fare in the UFC:

Tomar is a product out of India which is a market the UFC is trying to go after. She has good experience fighting for ONE Championship four times. Of the four fights Tomar only went 1-3. To her benefit she only lost to credible opponents but was losing every time she had a bump up in competition. Since her run in ONE Tomar has went 4-0 and has wins over at least two decent opponents.

It was rough trying to highlight anything in a positive way while watching Tomar. I can say she’s strong and can throw a lot of volume. Strength can only mean so much when you’re an undersized fighter. Tomar isn’t a strawweight as she should only be fighting at atomweight. The volume is cool but when it’s when she’s coming forward she’s sloppy. There isn’t an ounce of technique in her striking. On the outside, she’s low volume, flat-footed, and slow.

She has no wrestling, no jiu-jitsu, no takedown defense, and has nothing off her back. Tomar can be a threat on top with rapid ground and pound but that’s all volume and nothing is sought out. Her submission defense is terrible and grappling defense in general is poor. She’s been getting out grappled by fighters who are primarily strikers. Overall, I’d be surprised if Tomar got a win in the UFC. She’s undersized, already 30, and has too many holes in her game.

How she matches up with Amanda:

Amanda isn’t great and a lot of her record is padded but this would be her worst loss by a mile. Amanda should just be able to find the takedowns and her BJJ is far superior. On the feet Tomar is at least fighting someone her size but Amanda will match her output and make it competitive. Amanda has a clear path to victory but should really win this fight anywhere it goes.

It was all Super Series action at ONE Championship: Immortal Triumph at the Asian MMA organization looked to break into Vietnam.

ONE Championship made it’s debut in Vietnam Friday, hosting Immortal Triumph in Ho Chi Minh City. It did so, however, without any MMA bouts on the card, due to regulations still prohibiting the sport from being practiced unencumbered in the Asian nation.

That meant a card full of kickboxing and Muay Thai action, but including a smattering of MMA fighters including KOTC veteran Bi Nguyen.

Note: Saemapetch Fairtex vs. Adam Noi was cancelled due to medical reasons regarding Noi.

The card kicked off at 5:45 PM local time, with action streaming on the ONE Championship app. Check below for results from the event.

Puja Tomar’s win last week at ONE Championship: Eternal Glory, has broken the trend of Indian fighters losing in the promotion.

ONE Championship stands as the only major international MMA promotion which has shown interest in signing Indian MMA fighters. They have had multiple Indian fighters competing in their events. However, the majority of them lost. This lack of success was such a big problem that most Indian fighters were convinced that ONE was using them solely as feeders to top talents. Word was spreading that ONE had no intention of giving Indians a fair chance.

To a certain extent, this was true. Certain fighters like Rahul Raju were being given simply unreasonable matchups. Puja Tomar herself was coming off a bad run. In her first fight with the promotion, she was thrown against the undefeated Tiffany Teo, and in the next, it was rising hot prospect Jihin Radzuan. In both fights, Tomar lost via submission. Despite this, she was matched up with Priscilla Gaol. Gaol was coming off two impressive wins and the fight was scheduled in her hometown.

Tomar was obviously the underdog. However, instead of succumbing to the environment, she fought the odds and managed to secure a decision win. This win rekindled a fire in the heart of Indian MMA community. Every year, many fighters quit the sport of MMA because of lack of opportunity. They understood that no one was going to support them and felt as if they were being exploited. When Tomar managed to defeat all these odds and still secure a win, it gave many fighters hope. Hope for a better tomorrow. What is next? Will ONE try to build up Indian MMA fighters?
