Patchy Mix is no longer part of the UFC.

The former Bellator MMA bantamweight champion and grand prix winner was considered a big signing when he joined the UFC last year. Mix (20-3) had just one professional loss at the time and was considered by many the best 135lb’er outside the UFC. However, he struggled out of the gate, losing a unanimous decision in his lackluster debut against Mario Bautista.

In Mix’s sophomore outing inside the octagon, former KSW star Jakub Wikłacz squeaked past Mix via split decision.

The bout came at UFC 320 last October. It was expected Mix would get another look in the UFC, but on Wednesday, RIZIN officials announced a bout at the upcoming RIZIN 52, featuring Mix taking on Kyoma Akimoto (11-1).

In addition to the new promotion, Mix will also be competing in a new weight class, moving up to featherweight.

Mix holds notable victories over Andre Ewell, Tony Gravely, Albert Morales, Magomed Magomedov, Kyoji Horiguchi, Raufeon Stots, and Sergio Pettis. He holds the promotional record for stoppages and submissions in Bellator bantamweight history.

His latest opponent, Akimoto, is 6-1 under the RIZIN Fighting Federation banner. Akimoto has seen his hand raised in his last four bouts.

RIZIN 52 takes place on March 6, 2026 at the Ariake Arena in Tokyo, Japan.

The move of Mix from the UFC to RIZIN runs parallel to a couple of RIZIN fighters going the opposite direction, mainly Kai Asakura and Kyoji Horiguchi. The relationship between the promotions has appeared to be closer of late, with UFC CEO and President Dana White and RIZIN’s Nobuyuki Sakakibara meeting in 2024, several months prior to Asakura moving to the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

For his second UFC assignment, former Bellator champ Patchy Mix welcomed KSW champion Jakub Wiklacz to the octagon at UFC 320.

Bantamweight Mix, a Bellator grand prix winner, had come up short in a listless fight against Mario Bautista in his own promotional debut.

Wizlacz opened the fight with a steady stream of kicks, particularly targeting the body. He stayed busy early, putting pressure on Mix and preventing him from settling in. However, after slipping on a kick, Mix capitalized and secured an easy scoop takedown. Wizlacz looked to sweep from bottom, but Mix maintained top control. Moments later, Wizlacz elevated Mix and scrambled back to his feet. Mix kept the aggression high, and Wizlacz responded by jumping on a guillotine attempt. Though he didn’t secure it, the scramble allowed him to mount Mix. Mix managed to work his back to the cage as the round closed.

In round two, Mix came forward behind steady pressure and straight punches, while Wizlacz continued to focus on bodywork— doubling up on body kicks and straight shots. Mix exploded into another takedown, and once again, Wizlacz threatened with a guillotine. He didn’t finish it but used the position to stand back up. Both fighters were visibly fatigued, but Wizlacz stayed active, landing short, nasty elbows on the inside. Mix answered with a sharp left hand that earned respect and followed it with another takedown, which led to yet another guillotine attempt from Wizlacz. The grappling exchanges were brief, with both men scrambling to their feet quickly. In the final minute, Wizlacz went back to the body kicks as they traded clean shots in the clinch.

Early in the final round, Mix timed a kick perfectly to shoot in for a takedown. Wizlacz once again looked for the guillotine, but it wasn’t close. Though he accepted being taken down, he refused to stay flat on bottom—constantly elevating Mix’s hips and creating space to move. Mix, however, was stronger from top position in the third, controlling more of the round and staying just active enough to maintain it. Wizlacz attempted one last scramble in the closing seconds, but Mix ended the fight on his back, finishing the round in control.

Official Result: Jakub Wiklacz def. Patchy Mix by split decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

A battle of champions from other promotions has been booked for UFC 320 this October.

Patchy Mix (20-2), who fell short in his highly anticipated UFC debut two months ago, will look to bounce back when he faces promotional newcomer Jakub Wiklacz (16-3-2) at the event in Las Vegas on October 4, 2025.

Mix is a former Bellator MMA bantamweight champion and grand prix winner, while Wiklacz previously held gold for Polish promotion KSW, which until recently dominated a large swathe of the European MMA scene.

UFC officials announced the match-up on Thursday.

Mix suffered just the second defeat of his professional career in a low-energy fight with Mario Bautista at UFC 316 in June. The decision loss snapped a seven fight win streak that had seen Mix defeat the likes of Kyoji Horiguchi, Sergio Pettis, Raufeon Stots, and Magomed Magomedov.

Poland’s Wiklacz has not lost a fight since 2020, and will be competing for the first time since defending his 135lb KSW belt by submitting Sebastian Przybysz in June of 2024. Wiklacz successfully defended his belt three times after claiming it in the second of four career fights he’s had against Przybysz.

UFC 320 is headlined by the rematch between light heavyweight champ Magomed Ankalaev and Brazilian star Alex Pereira. Bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili will look to fend off Cory Sandhagen in the co-headliner at the T-Mobile Arena on October 4.

UFC 316 touted some extremely talented and high-ranking fighters squaring off in Newark, New Jersey.

The Garden State hosted the UFC for the 21st time on Saturday, this time, with the card being headlined by a pair of bantamweight title fights. In the co-main event, former Olympian, Kayla Harrison, bested Julianna Pena to successfully capture the belt. And in the final fight of the night, a rematch between, Merab Dvalishvilli and Sean O’Malley, ‘The Machine’ submitted ‘Suga’ to retain his 135lb title once again. This five-fight main card was all action and boasted three submission finishes. Some well-known veterans on this edition of losers and one former Bellator champ with an abysmal debut.

Sean O’Malley

Merab Dvalishvili dominated and submitted Sean O’Malley in the third round of their title fight in the main event of UFC 316. The rematch- in the makings since O’Malley lost his belt to Merab, last September, was highly anticipated.

Thanks to Merab, O’Malley has now lost twice in a row for the first time in his pro career. Heading into the fight Sean was the #1 ranked contender. There are a couple of different directions that Sean could choose to take this train at this point. He could look to move up to the featherweight division to mix it up as he has a large frame for bantamweight. However, there are still real contenders at bantamweight should he want to try again for the belt. That said, the path to the title shot is filled with grappling heavy fighters. It’d likely be wise for Sean to avoid a matchup like Umar Nurmagomedov and instead opt for the winner of Marcus McGhee vs Petr Yan. The pair a scheduled to fight on July 26th. Yan is currently ranked at #2 while McGhee is getting a huge opportunity at #13.

Marcus is 4-0 in the UFC, stopping three of his opponents and earning as many performance bonuses. Marcus was last in action in November with his unanimous decision victory over Jonathan Martinez. Petr fought Sean back in 2022 losing a controversial split decision in a bout that landed Fight of the Night honors. Petr would then lose to Merab before bouncing back, winning unanimous decisions against Song Yadong and most recently, Deiveson Figueiredo. A striker’s delight in the making, no matter who wins. And the potential for the fans to see a very entertaining rematch that has a lot of bad blood behind it. Also potential for fans to see new blood in the division against another former champion. This is a good fight for Sean to get his bearings to see if he should potentially move up in the future.

O’Malley’s next fight: Winner of Petr Yan vs Marcus McGhee

Julianna Pena

Kayla Harrison took just two rounds to smoother and submit Julianna Pena on Saturday. Pena, who has struggled with activity due to injury over the course of her entire UFC career, is now 8-4 with the promotion. This is a tough pill for Pena to swallow, as Kayla looked a lot stronger than her in there.

Julianna has a couple of opponents that make sense for her to take on next. Pena could take on Ketlen Vieira who is ranked at #3 in the division. Vieira has a similar UFC record to Pena at 9-4. And she has a split decision loss to Raquel Pennington and her most recent defeat is a unanimous decision to Kayla Harrison, last October. This is a matchup that makes a lot of sense except for the fact that Ketlen egregiously missed weight for her most recent fight against Macy Chiasson on May 30. Even though Vieira got the unanimous decision victory, the fight had to be moved up to 145lbs (she weighed in at 146lbs).

With that fact in mind, a more deserving opponent would be Norma Dumont. Norma, who is ranked at #4 at bantamweight, is 8-2 within the UFC. Dumont is currently riding a five-fight win streak with her most recent win coming over Irene Aldana in September of last year. Norma is ready to fight and a bout against Pena could offer a fresh a competitive matchup to the division. Booking this one comes down to timing and what Pena is thinking next for her career- leaning toward the Dumont matchup but that’s only if Dumont hasn’t done enough already to warrant a title shot (extremely doubtful).

Pena’s next fight: Ketlen Vieira or Norma Dumont

Kelvin Gastelum

Joe Pyfer found success on the feet at UFC 316 on Saturday, dropping Kelvin Gastelum twice on the way to a unanimous decision victory. Both middleweight fighters were presumably narrowly outside of the rankings. Gastelum is now 2-2 since mid 2021 but has had five fights cancelled in the time frame as well. Somehow, The Ultimate Fighter Season 17 winner is still just 33 years old. A smaller middleweight, with no chance of a welterweight move due to his weight cutting history, Gastelum will have to be extremely selective with his matchups.

We could realistically see Kelvin taking on any number of opponents in his next fight. But ideally, Kelvin should fight Gerald Meerschaert in his next bout. Meerschaert is 12-11 in the UFC since being signed in 2016. The submission specialist is currently riding a two-fight losing streak but has fought nearly everyone at middleweight. Gerald is 3-3 in his last six fights including a 2023 first round TKO loss to Joe Pyfer. Gerald was last in action back in April when he lost a unanimous decision to Brad Tavares. The grappling prowess of Meerschaert vs the explosiveness, boxing and wrestling of Gastelum. Good fight for the fans. Winner firmly secures themselves in the gatekeeper status at the weight class. Loser could have a tough time gaining respect moving forward especially if the fight ends with a finish.

Gastelum’s next fight: Gerald Meerschaert

Patchy Mix

UFC newcomer and former Bellator champion Patchy Mix had no answer for Mario Bautista‘s standup on his way to a unanimous decision loss Saturday. Mix stepped in after Bautista’s original opponent, #7 ranked Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera, was forced to withdraw due to injury.

Mario made his UFC debut against Corey Sandhagen in 2019- heading into Saturday he was riding a seven-fight win streak including victories over Ricky Simon and Jose Aldo. Even though Bautista is ranked at #10 he’s super tough. No excuses though, it was an ugly and head-scratching performance out of Patchy. With that said, Mix will need to establish where he fits within the ranks by getting in the win column in his next bout.

Giving Patchy the loser of Cody Garbrandt vs Raoni Barcelos could make a lot of sense. The two bantamweights just outside of the top 15 ranks are scheduled to fight on June 14th. Logic here is that Cody is a former UFC bantamweight champion himself. But he has stumbled in recent years in the form of numerous cancelled fights, injuries and Cody is 2-3 since mid-2020. Garbrandt was last in action in April of last year when he was submitted by Deiveson Figueiredo. Bracelos is a 12-fight UFC vet that has been with the promotion since 2018. Raoni is 2-2 in his last four fights, but those two losses are against Umar Nurmagomedov and Kyler Phillips. The 38-year-old bested hot-prospect, Payton Talbott, in his last time in the cage back in January.

Either way, a fight against either man would offer Mix an immediate chance to regain some lost respect. Both men are respectable opponents but have displayed some chinks in their armor in recent bouts. Good test to find out where Patchy belongs.

Mix’s next fight: Loser of Cody Garbrandt vs. Raoni Barcelos

Vicente Luque

Vicente Luque weathered some good shots early, only to be submitted in the second round of his UFC 316 main card opener, against Kevin Holland, on Saturday. Luque entered the fight ranked at #14 in the welterweight division while his opponent was unranked. Luque has struggled in recent years and he’s 2-4 since 2021. In comparison, before that, Luque was on a 10-1 streak within the UFC.

Vicente is 16-7 with the UFC in his 10th year with promotion. He will likely slide out of the top 15 welterweight rankings.

Sticking with a pick from a recent edition of Losers, Luque should take on Gilbert Burns in his next fight. Gilbert last fought on May 17th in a main event against Michael Morales. He was TKO’d midway thru the first round. The loss was his fourth in a row and he has not won since his April of 2023 victory against Jorge Masvidal. Gilbert is still ranked at #10 within the welterweight division and has had some extremely daunting opponents in recent years (Michael Morales, Sean Brady, Jack Della Maddalena, Belal Muhammad). At 38 years old, Burns isn’t done yet but would be a good matchup for a fighter like Luque.

The timing matches up and somehow these two UFC vets haven’t faced each other before. Easy booking to make here that could easily be a co-main event type fight. Winner claws right back into relevancy while the loser likely gets the official ‘journeyman’ title.

Vicente’s next fight: Gilbert Burns

Former Bellator MMA bantamweight champ Patchy Mix made his highly anticipated UFC debut on Saturday, facing the #10-ranked 135’er in the promotion, Mario Bautista.

While Bautista was coming in on a seven-fight win streak and had last been seen earning a controversial decision over Jose Aldo, Mix had been deemed the favorite in the fight. Thanks in no small part to wins over the likes of Sergio Pettis, Raufeon Stots, James Gallagher and Magomed Magomedov, among bothers.

Round one opened with Bautista immediately going to work, landing crisp right hands to the body. Mix stood stationary, absorbing the shots without offering much in return. Bautista began to open up, tagging Mix with a sharp right to the chin before going right back downstairs. He varied his attack beautifully, targeting the head, body, and legs, while Mix appeared flat-footed and unsure of how to respond. Bautista’s strategy was simple but effective: repeatedly find a home for that right hand. It was a dominant round for Bautista, who battered Mix while barely absorbing anything himself.

Round two began with a heavy body kick from Bautista, who kept the pressure and output high. Mix continued to struggle with Bautista’s pace and activity, showing little offense. At one point, he grazed Bautista with a head kick, a rare moment of success that seemed to spark some confidence, only for Mix to fail to capitalize. Known for his grappling, Mix couldn’t find his range or rhythm as Bautista stayed in control and dictated the tempo throughout the round.

In round three, Mix showed more urgency, pressing forward and even shooting for a takedown, which Bautista easily stuffed. From there, Bautista managed the clock and distance expertly, circling the cage and staying out of danger while continuing to mix his strikes. It was a clean, composed, and dominant showing from Bautista across all three rounds—a performance that highlighted his fight IQ and well-rounded striking

Official Result: Mario Bautista def. Pathy Mix by unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 30-27)

Former Bellator bantamweight champion and million dollar grand prix winner Patchy Mix, having petitioned for and received his release by the PFL earlier this year, arrives in the UFC this Saturday, taking on Mario Bautista in a short-notice 135lb fight. The bout appears on the UFC 316 main card, and Mix has been talked up on UFC broadcasts of late, with the UFC clearly seeing the potential in the 20-1 fighter.

Patchy “No Love” Mix
Standing at five-foot-eleven
Fighting at 135 lbs (bantamweight)
31-years-old
Fighting out of Las Vegas, Nevada, US

Patchy Mix enters the UFC in the prime of his career, already regarded as one of the top bantamweights in the world. While there’s often skepticism around hyped newcomers, Mix’s résumé speaks for itself with legitimate wins over elite competition including Magomed Magomedov (twice), Sergio Pettis, Raufeon Stots, and Kyoji Horiguchi. Some of those fights were competitive, but more often than not, Mix has either dominated or finished his opponents.

He’s a massive bantamweight, and that size advantage has been a key weapon, especially on the ground. However, he also uses his length effectively on the feet. Mix controls range well with a long jab, and he’s active with his legs, using teeps to the body and chopping low kicks to keep opponents at bay. He excels at winning the foot positioning and hand-fighting battles, allowing him to pressure and force mistakes.

One of Mix’s trademarks is how well he capitalizes on those mistakes. He’s a master at crowding opponents and baiting them into desperate shots then snatching up the neck with lethal precision. Mix is the last guy you want grabbing your neck: he has elite submission instincts, a crushing squeeze, strong grip transitions, and he uses his length as leverage.

He’s also one of the best back-takers in the sport. Whether it’s from a scramble or a clinch exchange, Mix is excellent at closing the distance, circling to the back, and locking in the backpack position. Even if a takedown in open space doesn’t land clean, he adapts— driving to the fence, reshooting, and adjusting until he finds the position he wants.

If you end up in close quarters with him, you’re in danger. Mix is one of the most dangerous submission grapplers in the game.

That said, the clearest path to beating Mix is by keeping the fight standing and maintaining distance. While he’s no slouch on the feet, he’s been hittable at times, particularly vulnerable to the right hook— though he’s shown a strong chin and composure under fire.

Bantamweight is one of the UFC’s deepest divisions, but Mix has all the tools to break into the top five. He’s a serious threat to anyone at 135.

How does he match up against Bautista?

I think Bautista gets a lot of unwarranted criticism, but interestingly, many are picking him to pull off the upset here. Personally, I don’t see him being able to keep Mix at range or land the more effective strikes over three rounds.

What I expect is Mix to control the center of the octagon, close the distance, and eventually take the back, leading to a finish via rear-naked choke. Even though this is Mix’s UFC debut, I believe he’s simply operating on a different level than Bautista.

Newark, NJ — A UFC Fight Week isn’t exactly new for UFC 316’s Patchy Mix, who has been in fiancé Tatiana Suarez’s corner numerous times in the past. Still, being in someone else’s Fight Week, and taking part in your own, is a different experience.

“I kind of see it from afar, but now doing it myself, it’s a lot different than let’s say my last couple, the Bellator fight weeks and the past, the experience that I have,” Mix (20-1) said during Wednesday’s UFC 316 media day, speaking with media outlets including Cageside Press.

Mix is arriving in the UFC this Saturday, making his debut after requesting his release by the PFL. Mix has 15 finishes in his 20 wins, and was the defending Bellator MMA bantamweight champion before the promotion was absorbed by the Professional Fighters League. After months of fights falling through, he finally gets to step in the octagon on short notice opposite Mario Bautista.

“I stayed ready for a whole year. I had two fights cancelled. I ended up going to Dubai and beating up the ONE champion in grappling, just to do anything, just to stay busy,” Mix said of his struggles to stay busy across the last 12 months or so. “So it was super-exciting when we got the call, and my coaches are super-pumped and thrilled because the UFC is the biggest organization in the world. So it was the perfect timing to accept a fight, my weight had already been in check, all the boxes were checked. It happened overnight, I’m just blessed to honestly be here now.”

Coming into the world’s premier MMA promotion, Mix is already a big star, but is finally seen as having arrived. That said, his accolades speak for themselves, and he was already validated by his accomplishments.

“I won a million dollars years ago [in the Bellator bantamweight grand prix]. When I say I’m the Bellator world champion, the million dollar champion, million dollar tournament winner, I feel validated from that,” stated Mix. “But now being in the UFC, it clears like a lot for the casual fans who don’t know the layers of promotions and stuff. It is something, yes, I’d really like to check off my box. Now when I tell people about MMA, I can just tell them I’m in the number one promotion in the world, and it’s the UFC.”

Las Vegas — Patchy Mix is officially in the UFC, and that sounds good to him.

“It sounds good, man. It sounds just where I belong. So many years, so many fights as a matter of fact,” Mix (20-1) told media outlets including Cageside Press at the UFC Apex on Saturday. “To finally be here is surreal, but it’s where I belong.”

Rumored for days after the now-former Bellator bantamweight champ parted ways with the PFL, Mix’s arrival in the promotion was officially announced during Saturday’s UFC Vegas 106 broadcast. The 31-year old was supposed to fight Leandro Higo at a Bellator Champions Series card in Paris last November, until the entire event fell through. Now, he’ll debut for the UFC on short notice, facing Mario Bautista at UFC 316 in June.

“Everyone knew what I’d do to Leandro Higo, I just wanted to earn some money and stuff, and stay active and keep getting better, keep growing. When that fight got pulled, I didn’t know when I’d fight,” admitted Mix, who added that he made the trip to Dubai for a grappling match with ONE Championship’s Kairat Akhmetov instead.

“People haven’t see it yet, but I’m not the same fighter I was last May, I’ll tell you that,” promised Mix.

As for how the fight with Bautista came about, it was as simple as picking up the phone. “You got the call and you answer it. I’m not afraid of anyone in this division. Especially Mario Bautista,” stated Mix. “He’s on a seven-fight win streak, and I want that seven-fight win streak. So when they called me, I answered it, I’ll make weight, and I’ll get the job done.”

The opponent, noted Mix, wasn’t a factor in jumping at the opportunity. “It didn’t matter who, I didn’t mind if he was ranked number one or number 50. I would have gone against the best, the hardest, the guy that they didn’t want anyone to fight, it didn’t matter. It happened to be him, and I think Chito Vera popped his rib or something. They called me within an hour or two, I was like ‘hell yeah.’ Within like a day, I think it was getting made.”

Still, for a year now, Patchy Mix has been on the shelf, healthy and willing to fight, but unable to for reasons outside his control. The PFL has struggled to find fights for a number of Bellator stars since acquiring the organization, and Mix is one of several who have now jumped ship to the UFC, including Michael Page, Patricio Pitbull and Aaron Pico. Mix, like others, was forced to take to social media to express the frustration with sitting out.

“It’s been frustrating man to be honest with you. I’m not even going to lie. A lot of, I don’t know man, I’ve been bitching a lot at home probably to be honest with you, just probably driving my family crazy, just bitching about it all the time. ‘I wanna fight, I wanna fight,'” Mix told Cageside Press, asked about his time in limbo. “All it was is, I just wanted to stay active and fighting. That was probably the hardest part. But it wasn’t like, I don’t really put the necessary blame on anyone, one particular person.”

“I know cards fell out, and it wasn’t just me not fighting is what I’m saying, it was a majority of people. It wasn’t like I was singled out.”

And so there were no thoughts of revenge on Mix’s part at least. “I knew there was a lot of people having to deal with a similar problem. I just was praying that not just myself but everyone could stay active, and just make some money for their families. That’s it.”

With Marlon Vera out of the fight, Mario Bautista has a new opponent for UFC 316, and it’s another big free agent signing.

Following in the footsteps of Michael “Venom” Page, Patrico Pitbull, and Aaron Pico, Patchy Mix, former Bellator MMA bantamweight champ, has signed on with the UFC, and will step in on short notice to face Bautista at the Newark, New Jersey-based Pay-Per-View event.

Mix was granted his release by the PFL just days ago, and was widely expected to ink a deal with the UFC. Promotion officials announced the booking of Mix vs. Bautista during Saturday’s UFC Vegas 106 broadcast, following a report by Magic MMA Bets.

Bautista (15-2) has been on a tear, stringing together seven straight wins including victories over Ricky Simon and most recently, former UFC featherweight champ and Hall of Famer Jose Aldo (controversial as that decision might be).

Mario Bautista is ranked #10 in the UFC’s bantamweight division at present.

Mix (20-1) last fought in May of 2024, defeating Magomed Magomedov at a Bellator Champions Series event. A fight with Leandro Higo had been announced for Paris last November, but the entire card was scrapped, leaving Mix in limbo, despite still holding Bellator’s old 135lb title.

At the start of 2025, the PFL mothballed Bellator, rebranding it the PFL Champions Series.

UFC 316 is headlined by the rematch between bantamweight champ Merab Dvalishvili and Sean O’Malley. Julianna Pena and Kayla Harrison, for Pena’s 135lb title, is set as the co-headliner. Mario Bautista vs. Patchy Mix is expected to be part of the event’s main card, live on Pay-Per-View at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.
