ONE Championship returned to action on Friday in Manila, the Philippines, with a card headlined by two title fights, one of which crowned the Asian promotion’s first dual-weight class champion.

ONE Championship: Legends of the World was a big milestone for the MMA powerhouse of Asia, as Marin Nguyen moved up in weight to capture lightweight gold against Eduard Folayang. With his second round knockout of ‘Landslide’ Nguyen captured his second title in the promotion, and now holds both featherweight and lightweight gold.

It’s a feat rarely seen in MMA, and even less often in major promotions. To date, Conor McGregor is the only person to achieve the feat in the UFC. Bellator MMA has yet to produce a simultaneous two-weight class champion, though light heavyweight champ Ryan Bader will have a shot next year.

Aside from Nguyen’s historic night, Legends of the World also saw flyweight champion Adriano Moraes successfully defend his title against challenger Danny Kingad. Securing a rear-naked choke late in the first round, Moraes sealed the deal and improved to 17-2 in the process.

The night’s action saw all but a single bout end in a finish, with Chinese strawweight Peng Xue Wen picking up a knockout via slam (suplex).

You can check out the night’s action in the gallery below, courtesy of ONE Championship!

Less than a week after Georges St. Pierre achieved the feat in the UFC, the MMA world has another two-division champ in a major promotion.

At today’s ONE Championship: Legends of the World event in Manila, Philippines, Australia’s Martin Nguyen made history, becoming the promotion’s first ever two-division champ. The current featherweight champion, he stepped up a weight class in the evening’s main event to take on Eduard “Landslide” Folayang. Catching Folayang with a counter right hand off a spinning back fist in round two, he put Folayang down in an instant, capturing the lightweight crown in the process.

It was the second recent “superfight” for ONE Championship, who pitted middleweight champion Aung La N Sang against the hulking Alain Ngalani earlier this month. The middleweight king was also successful in his efforts.

Also on the Legends of the World card, Adriano Moraes choked out Danny Kingad to retain his flyweight title. Sinking in the rear-naked choke in the first round of their co-main event battle, Moraes left no question as to who the king of the flyweight division is in ONE Championship. The choke was pretty much a buzzer beater, coming just fifteen seconds prior to the buzzer sounding to end the first frame.

Legends of the World continued ONE Champion’s run of stellar finishes, with both a spinning back fist and slam(!) KO’s coming earlier in the night’s action.

Check below for full results from the night’s action.

ONE Championship — Legends of the World Results:

Martin Nguyen def. Eduard Folyang by knockout, Round 2, 2:20

ONE Championship announced via press release on Tuesday that its upcoming ONE Championship: Legends of the World event will get a second title fight. Joining the already announced champ vs. champ battle between lightweight World Champion Eduard Folayang and featherweight World Champion Martin Nguyen will by a flyweight title fight. The bout, featuring champ Adiano Moraes against Danny Kingad, will serve as the card’s co-main event.

Moraes recaptured the flyweight title after claiming interim gold in 2016. He had originally lost the belt to Kairat Akhmetov at ONE Championship 34 in a split decision. Following that, he went on a two-fight win streak, claiming interim gold in the process, then defeated Akhmetov this past August in their rematch. In doing so, Moraes (16-2) handed Akhmetov his first professional loss.

Flyweight challenger Danny Kingad (5-0) has won three straight under the ONE Championship banner, most recently against Muhammad Aiman in April. Two of his three ONE Championship bouts have ended in a finish.

Also added to the ONE Championship: Legends of the World card, Kevin Belingon (16-5) wil meet Korean-American Kevin Chung (4-0) at featherweight, while Brazil’s Alex “Little Rock” Silva (5-1), a BJJ world champion, takes on Japan’s Hayato Suzuki (17-0). The undefeated Suzuki has spent most of his career in Japan, competing for DEEP and VTJ, among other promotions. He won his ONE Championship debut in August, submitting Joshua Pacio via rear-naked choke in the first round. With an unblemished record, a win at Legends of the World could push him towards a shot at the flyweight crown.

Anatpong Bunrad (5-3), meanwile, will look to snap a two-fight losing streak when he takes on Reece McLaren (9-5) in further flyweight action. The bout will mark McLaren’s flyweight debut for ONE.

On the women’s side, Gina Iniong (5-2) will take on Priscilla Hertati Lumban Gaol (0-1). Gaol lost her ONE Championship and professional debut at Throne of Tigers back in February.

In strawweight action, Joshua Pacio (9-2) will face off against Roy “The Dominator” Doliguez (7-4), and Peng Xue Wen squares off with three-time national Kun Khmer champion Phat Soda of Cambodia. A featherweight tilt between China’s Xie Chao and Malaysia’s Kelvin Ong rounds out the most recent additions to the card.

ONE Championship: Legends of the World takes place in at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manilla, Philippines on November 10. Eduard Folayang’s lightweight title will be on the line in the main event as featherweight champ Martin Nguyen moves up to challenge him.

Asia’s ONE Championship has lined up a battle between champions this November. At ONE Championship: Legends of the World, lightweight champion Eduard Folayang will defend his 155lb crown against featherweight champ Martin Nguyen. In the process, Nguyen will seek to become the promotion’s first simultaneous two-division champion.

In a press release Tuesday, Folayang was quoted as saying that “as a martial artist, I am constantly in search of the biggest challenges, the biggest tests of my skills. As champion, I welcome any and all challengers. Martin [Nguyen] is one of the best in the world and it is an honor to share the ONE Championship cage with him. This is a bout for the fans, and I can’t wait to perform in front of my hometown crowd in Manila once again.”

Folayang (18–5), currently on a four-fight winning streak in ONE, captured the lightweight title against Shinya Aoki in November last year. He’s coming off his first successful title defense over Ev Ting this past April.

Martin Nguyen (9-1), meanwhile, has won five straight in the promotion, capping that streak off with his featherweight championship win over Marat Gafurov last month. That fight, the pair’s second, saw Nguyen knock out then-champ Gafurov in the second round at ONE Championship: Quest for Greatness.

Regarding the fight, the newly minted featherweight champion said that “New Years’ will be coming early this year, because in this fight there will definitely be fireworks.”

“I’m out not only to make a statement, but to go down in history as the best to ever compete under the ONE Championship banner. I have the utmost respect for the lightweight champion, and will definitely not take his skills for granted. But this is going to be a dog fight.”

ONE Championship: Legends of the World takes place at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila on November 10.
