Featuring the debut of Victoria Lee, Fists of Fury was a card heavy on kickboxing action, with Lee’s MMA coming out party the only mixed martial arts contest in the bunch.

A lot of attention has been put on Lee’s unquestionably tender age in the sport. It’s not every day that a 16-year old turns pro in MMA. And it’s even more rare for said fighter to be the little sister of two world champions. Unheard of, in fact. But the Lee family — atomweight champion Angela Lee, lightweight champion Christian Lee, and now Victoria — have quickly become royalty in ONE Championship. And they are looking to further extend their dynasty.

Lee’s debut went according to plan. Against a much more experienced Sunisa Srisen, Lee looked overpowered at times, but not out of place. Early nerves were apparent, but when she got the fight to the ground, she was in her wheelhouse. When she couldn’t finish the bout in the opening frame, after bouncing back and forth from ground n’ pound to submission attempts, she wisely adjusted in the second, and finished Srisen with a rear-naked choke.

In the main event, meanwhile, Flyweight kickboxing champ Ilias Ennahachi retained his title with a unanimous decision over Thailand’s Superlek Kiatmoo9, in a decision that was far closer in reality than it looks on paper.

The promotion turned heads and raised eyebrows when it signed the younger (but not youngest) Lee. Victoria was all of sixteen years old when she signed on with the Asian MMA powerhouse — not unique, as fellow fighters Jordan Mein, Marcin Held, and others debuted prior to their eighteenth birthday. But few fighters so young, and so inexperienced, debut in a major promotion.

Pressure? What pressure.

Lee made her debut at ONE Championship’s Fists of Fury in Kallang, Singapore on Friday. Against the older, more experienced Sunisa Srisen, the teenager immediately moved across the cage, throwing punches and eating a few in return. The pair then clinched, trading knees, with the youngster holding her own in the strength department initially. However, a throw ended in Victoria Lee on her back, working on an inverted triangle. Srisen, perhaps recognizing that was one area she was outmatched in, wisely backed off, allowing the fight to return to the feet.

Another clinch led to another throw, this time with Lee in control, on Srisen’s back. From there, Lee flattened her opponent out, hooks in. Srisen worked her way to the fence, taking away precious space, but she couldn’t work her way up. Lee peppered her opponent with elbows and a large number of punches as Srisen covered up. Inexperience, perhaps, led Lee to switch between strikes and submission attempts, even as the TKO finish presented itself. Instead of the finish, Lee was greeted by the bell.

In the second round, however, Lee made no mistake. After some clinch work, the pair went to the ground, Victoria Lee again taking the back. This time, she flattened Srisen out and snaked her arm under the neck for the rear-naked choke. Srisen had no choice but to tap.

It’s hard from one outing to gauge where Lee’s ceiling is. Simply put, anything short of a dominant win probably would have been viewed as a failure, however unfair that might be. With the submission finish, and holding her own throughout the fight, Lee’s debut was certainly a success, but it would be wise for ONE to move slowly with a fighter who has the right pedigree, but who is unquestionably green.

Sure, Ilias Ennahachi was defending his flyweight kickboxing world championship against Thailand’s Superlek Kiatmoo9. And there were names very familiar to kickboxing fans, like Petrosyan and Rodtang. But it was the night’s first two bouts — one being the only mixed martial arts contest on the Fists of Fury card — that would arguably draw eyeballs.

In one, Wondergirl Fairtex returned to Muay Thai, looking to take on the debuting Jackielou Buntan. In the other, the card opener, Victoria Lee, the teenage sister of ONE atomweight champion Angela Lee and lightweight champion Christian Lee, made her professional MMA debut. All of 16 years old, Lee was taking on Sunisa Srisen — a 4-1 fighter whose only loss came to standout Stamp Fairtex.

Lee is not the only 16 year old to turn pro in MMA. But it’s unquestionably a rarity, and thanks to her family name, a lot of eyes, and pressure, were on the youngster.

Victoria Lee (0-0), younger sister of ONE champions Angela Lee (atomweight) and Christian Lee (lightweight), will be stepping into the cage as a professional for the first time at Fists of Fury. ONE officials unveiled the event on Tuesday, with Lee’s atomweight fight against Sunisa “Thunderstorm” Srisen kicking off the six-fight card.

Lee went 2-0 as an amateur in 2019, and raised eyebrows when she signed with ONE Championship last year. Not necessarily that it was a surprise, given her more famous siblings status in the company. But signing her deal at just 16, Victoria instantly became the youngest fighter on the roster (other notable mixed martial artists including Marcin Held and Jordan Mein also turned pro prior to 18).

In addition to Lee’s debut, ONE Championship: Fists of Fury will see a kickboxing title fight in the main event. That will see flyweight champ Ilias Ennahachi put his title on the line against the #2-ranked Superlek Kiatmoo9.

While Fists of Fury is expected to be live on February 26, two additional events, ONE: FISTS OF FURY II and ONE: FISTS OF FURY III will also be held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on that date, to be broadcast on March 5 and March 19, respectively.

Fists of Fury II will put the focus on the heavyweights. Amir Aliakbari faces Kang Ji Won in the main event, while Anatoly Malykhin meets Alexandre Machado in the co-feature. Fists of Fury III, meanwhile, is topped by ONE lightweight kickboxing champ Regian “The Immortal” Eersel putting his belt up for grabs opposite Islam Murtazaev. In that card’s co-main event, ONE Atomweight Kickboxing World Champion and #2-ranked atomweight Muay Thai contender Janet Todd throws down with 4th-ranked Alma Juniku in Muay Thai action.
