Invicta FC was back in action on Friday and back in Kansas City for Invicta FC 62, featuring a women’s bantamweight main event between Katharina Lehner and former Bellator title challenger Olga Rubin.

At least, it would have been a bantamweight main event, had Lehner not come in heavy for the fight, necessitating a catchweight. The main event wasn’t the only fight on Friday to require a shift in weight, as co-main event flyweight DeAnna Bennett missed the mark, officially for the fourth time in her professional career. Bennett had seen a title shot against Liz Carmouche under the Bellator banner slip through her fingers after missing weight a few years back; no title was on the line in Kansas City, but it was still a troubling speed bump for Bennett after she’d hit the mark for her last two fights.

Bantamweights Olga Rubin and Mayra Cantuária faced off in the main event of Invicta FC 60 on Friday, with a chance to stake their claim to the next title shot at 135lbs.

Rubin in particular has been no stranger to title shots. In 2019, after starting her career 6-0, “Big Bad” was granted a shot against then-Bellator MMA women’s featherweight champion Julia Budd. The fight didn’t go her way, and arguably came a little too early in her run, but Rubin became more of a household name thanks to the bout.

After losing a follow-up against Sinead Kavanagh, she exited Bellator, picked up a win for Oktagon MMA in 2021, and joined the Invicta ranks with an immediate bantamweight title shot opposite the promotion’s 135lb champ at the time, Taneisha Tennant. Dropping a split decision, Rubin again went into rebuild mode and won her next two fights (one with a rarely seen buggy choke), which took her to a title fight against Talita Bernardo- which found Rubin submitted.

All was not lost for Olga Rubin however. Bernardo dropped her belt to Jennifer Maia in December, and Rubin has been as reliable as they come for Invicta. As for Mayra Cantuária, the Brazilian is 1-1 in Invicta FC and coming off a non-title decision loss to Maia that she’d no doubt like the chance to avenge.

With UFC veterans Shanna Young and Victoria Leonardo also in action on Friday, Invicta FC 60 should be one to watch!

14 fighters will compete on the seven-fight card headlined by Olga Rubin, a former Bellator MMA featherweight title challenger, and Mayra Cantuária, in a bantamweight main event. The fight is expected to set up a potential challenger for new 135lb champion Jennifer Maia, who claimed her second title in the company late last year. Brazil’s Maia is a former Invicta FC flyweight champ and UFC title challenger.

A number of familiar names are also set to appear at Invicta FC 60, including UFC veterans Shanna Young (who has also competed for the PFL) and Victoria Leonardo. Both Leonardo and Young picked up victories at Invicta FC 58 last year, and are looking to build on that success.

Invicta FC is headed back to Atlanta, Georgia this February for Invicta FC 60.

Promotion officials recently announced the seven-fight card via press release. Invicta FC 60 will be headlined by bantamweight action, with former Bellator MMA title challenger Olga Rubin (9-4) taking on Mayra Cantuária in a non-title main event.

The card takes place at Center Stage in Atlanta, GA on Friday, February 7, 2025.

Rubin, also a former Invicta FC title challenger, is the only fighter in the all-female promotion’s history to secure a win by buggy choke. Most recently, she came up short in her second title bid for the company, winding up submitted by Talita Bernardo.

The Russian-born Israeli fighter fell to Julia Budd in a shot at Bellator’s featherweight championship back in 2019. Her last four fights have come under the Invicta FC banner, where she has posted a 2-2 record. Both of those losses came in title fights.

Mayra Cantuária came up short against former UFC title challenger and current Invicta bantamweight champ Jennifer Maia in her last outing. There’s a good chance a win over Rubin could earn her another shot at the Brazilian champion.

As it stands, Feb. 7, 2025’s Invicta FC 60 looks like this:

Bantamweight: Olga Rubin vs. Mayra Cantuária
Featherweight: Jackie Cataline vs. Jamie Edenden
Bantamweight: Shanna Young vs. Katharina Lehner
Flyweight: Victoria Leonardo vs. Rayla Nascimento
Strawweight: Liana Pirosin vs. Shino VanHoose
Atomweight: Giulliany Perêa vs. Hope Holmes
Featherweight: Joy Pendell vs. Krissa Timbs

Capping off the night at Invicta FC 55, the promotion’s return to action after more than six months away, and their first card of 2024, was a bantamweight title fight that saw Talita Bernardo looking to make the first defense of her 135lb crown.

Challenging for Invicta gold for the second time was Olga Rubin, who in the past had also contended for featherweight gold in Bellator.

Early on, Rubin pressed the action, keeping Bernardo on the outside. About 90 seconds in, they went to the ground, with Rubin catching the champ in a modified triangle. Rubin fired punches, while Bernardo looked to methodically work her way out. When she did, another scramble led to Bernardo taking the back, getting her hooks in and hunting for the rear-naked choke.

Round two opened with Rubin driving the champ against the fence, but she could not keep Bernardo there long. Bernardo circled on the outside, firing a low kick, while Rubin responded with a right hand. They would clinch up off a Rubin head kick, Bernardo in the driver’s seat- with the champ eventually landing a trip takedown. Rubin was very active off her back, and nearly scrambled free, only for Bernardo to take the back. Hooks in, she again went hunting for a rear-naked choke, while Rubin fought the hands.

It would take a little bit, but this time, the submission was there, with Rubin eventually forced to tap.

Talita Bernardo improved to 5-0 since exiting the UFC on the night, with three submission finishes in that stretch. That actually puts the Brazilian on the best run of her professional fighting career.

Official Result: Talita Bernardo def. Olga Rubin by submission (rear-naked choke), Round 2, 2:53

Invicta FC finally returned to action on June 28, 2024 with Invicta FC 55 topped by a bantamweight title fight.

The all-female fighting promotion led by President Shannon Knapp has not been seen since 2023, with rumors of their demise making the rounds in recent months. Knapp, however, had other plans, and Invicta now returns with a new U.S. broadcast partner in CBS Sports Network, which briefly housed Bellator MMA a couple of years back.

For Invicta FC 55, the promotion is back in familiar territory, with the event housed in the confines of the Memorial Hall in St. Louis, MO. Topping the card, former UFC fighter turned Invicta bantamweight champ Talita Bernardo, making the first defense of her title against former Bellator MMA women’s featherweight Olga Rubin.

Back in 2019, Rubin challenged then-champ Julia Budd for the Bellator belt, coming up short. She made her way to Invicta FC in 2022, losing a title fight against Taneisha Tennant before putting together back-to-back wins over Serena DeJesus and Claire Guthrie.

Also on the card, the return of UFC alum Kay Hansen.

Where to Watch Invicta FC 55

After a lengthy layoff, Invicta FC is finally set to return, with Invicta FC 55 arriving on June 28, 2024 headlined by a women’s bantamweight title fight.

The fight will see former UFC fighter and current Invicta 135lb champ Talita Bernardo defending her title against ex-Bellator MMA athlete Olga Rubin. Invicta FC President Shannon Knapp announced the news on Tuesday on SiriusXM, with the promotion also confirming the booking on social media.

Invicta FC 55 will take place at the Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kansas, per promotion officials.

Bernardo (10-4) has won all four of her fights since parting ways with the UFC in 2019, after posting a 1-3 record there. She’s 3-0 under the Invicta banner, and won the promotion’s bantamweight title in January of 2023 after claiming a unanimous decision over Taneisha Tennant.

The Brazilian also captured a win over UFC fighter Lucie Pudilova under the Oktagon banner subsequent to her exit from the UFC.

Rubin (9-3), a Russian fighting out of London, England, faced Julia Budd in a failed bid to claim the Bellator MMA women’s featherweight title in 2019. She arrived in Invicta in 2022, losting to Tennant in her first shot at bantamweight gold. Now, having picked up back-to-back wins over Serena DeJesus and Claire Guthrie, she’ll get another crack at gold.

Invicta FC have not held an event since October of 2023. In addition to announcing the June event and title fight, Knapp suggested that a new broadcast deal will also be revealed soon, and that the company will return to a busier schedule moving forward.

Las Vegas, NV — Israeli bantamweight Olga Rubin, a former featherweight title challenger in Bellator MMA, is coming off what is almost certainly the biggest performance of her career.

Though it’s now more than six months removed, the sight of Rubin (9-3) hitting a rarely-seen buggy choke on Serena DeJesus at Invicta FC 53 is still fresh in the minds of many. The performance stood out enough to be nominated for Submission of the Year at last month’s 15th Annual World MMA Awards, and was the culmination of years of work.

“Basically I’ve been doing jiu-jitsu since 2013, and I’ve been doing that buggy choke, at least trying to get the buggy choke in a fight for at least three fights before I got it,” Rubin told Cageside Press on the red carpet. “So for me, it was like my moment, because I was really working on the choke.”

Walking us through it, Rubin explained that “the second I hit the bottom in side control, I will probably get to the buggy choke immediately. So I knew it’s coming, I knew she knew it’s coming but there was nothing to be done about it.”

With everything going on in the world, Rubin was clear on how much a win at the awards ceremony would mean. “This would be meaning the world to me, especially now,” she stated. And while Rubin didn’t win — the award went to Alexa Grasso in the end — there’s no doubt she made an impression.

Watch our full interview with Invicta FC’s Olga Rubin above.
