UFC Veteran Ji Yeon Kim entered her fight at UFC Charlotte on a four-fight losing streak, though her last two were somewhat controversial decisions. Her opponent, Mandy Bohm, was a fitting one as she lost both of her UFC fights coming into this bout, although she entered the UFC undefeated in 2021.

The very first right hand of the fight from Kim wobbled Bohm in the first five seconds. Bohm was able to clinch up when Kim rushed in, though, and take her down. Kim got to her feet but Bohm got on her back and wrapped her arms around Kim’s neck, but the angle was off. Kim was able to slowly turn into her and end up on top in full guard. Kim was able to stay strong on top and get the back of Mandy around the halfway mark of the round with one hook in. However, Bohm was able to get out of the position and end up on top by the end of the round.

Round two started back on the feet, of course, where both ladies swung somewhat wildly until Bohm shot an early takedown which was stuffed. Bohm was able to get double underhooks and control Kim in the clinch for a while off of that failed takedown until Kim reversed her. Kim used a whizzer to take Bohm down but Bohm somewhat went to her back by choice, it seemed, as she initially stuffed the trip attempt. By the time one minute was left in the round Bohm got to her feet and then shot a takedown into a guillotine with forty-five seconds left. The guillotine put pressure on the neck of the German, Bohm, but she was able to survive in the choke attempt until the end of the round. There was a potential controversy after the bell as Kim upkicked Bohm in the stomach and pushed her off her feet, though she appeared to apologize immediately.

When the third round started the referee took a point from Kim for that strike at the end of round two, changing the fight in a potentially big way. Bohm clinched up to start the final round but Kim reversed the position and held Mandy against the fence. Kim forced Bohm to bend over and put her hand on the ground but then Kim committed another serious foul as she kneed her grounded opponent in the head. After much discussion with the referee and the doctor, it was determined that Mandy Bohm could not continue and the referee waved the fight off.

It was presumed that this would result in a disqualification, not a no contest or technical decision, but the fans have to wait until the result is announced to find out in these instances.

However, it was then revealed that the referee thought the knee was unintentional and that he took a point during the break, after the fight was called off. No one knew what the result would be when the judges scorecards were tallied up for the rare technical decision, which took a long time. The camera showed Bruce Buffer talking to judges and presumably to members of the North Carolina Athletic Commission; the UFC broadcast team later revealed that the judges had returned their scorecards prior to the second point deduction, meaning they had to be returned for scores to be re-tallied.

After the fight was stopped due to an unintentional foul in round 3, @Mandy_Boehm_MMA gets the win via split decision. #UFCCharlotte pic.twitter.com/YR5M6A069l

The split technical decision, after several minutes of deliberation, went to Mandy Bohm. Even though she only won one round on two judges scorecards that was enough with the two point deductions.

Official Result: Mandy Bohm def. Ji Yeon Kim by Technical Split Decision (28-27, 27-28, 28-27)

A late withdrawal due to illness has left Saturday night’s UFC Vegas 68 preliminary card down a scrap.

German Mandy Bohm (7-2) has withdrawn from her women’s flyweight fight with South Korea’s Ji Yeon Kim (9-6-2), which was scheduled to be the third bout of the evening at the Fight Night event.

UFC officials announced the news in a brief statement on Saturday.

“Due to illness, Mandy Bohm has been removed from her flyweight bout with Ji Yeon Kim. As a result, this bout has been removed from tonight’s card.”

No further details on the nature of Bohm’s illness have been released. Having previously competed for TKO and Bellator MMA, Bohm was in search of her first UFC victory in the bout. She’s dropped her first two fights in the promotion to Ariane Lipski and Victoria Leonardo.

Kim has lost four straight, but several electrifying scraps saw her hang on to her roster spot despite that slump.

UFC Vegas 68, which takes place at the Apex in Las Vegas on Saturday, February 4, now moves forward with the following bouts:

Derrick Lewis vs. Serghei Spivac

Jung Da-un vs. Devin Clark

Marcin Tybura vs. Blagoy Ivanov

Ahead of her sophomore outing in the UFC, against Invicta FC vet Victoria Leonardo at UFC London, Mandy Bohm had made a move from Germany to Las Vegas to further her career.

Saturday, she’d look to prove that the move had paid off. The flyweight pair was the second fight on the UFC London card at the O2 Arena in London, England, and both ladies were looking to return to the win column.

In the end, one would secure their first victory inside the octagon.

Both fighters took the center of the octagon after a touch of gloves. A right hand from Leonardo started the fight, and Bohm countered with a kick. Both girls clinched, and Leonardo put Bohm against the fence. After a minute, Bohm reversed Leonardo and put her against the fence. 2:30 left in the round, and they got back to the center of the octagon. Bohm landed a knee followed by an elbow. Both ladies threw a kick. A hard low kick from Bohm got Leonardo’s attention. Less than a minute left, and Leonardo landed a takedown, but Bohm got right back to her feet. The round ended with Leonardo holding Bohm against the fence.

Round two started with a right hand from Leonardo. A spinning wheel kick from Leonardo missed. A 1-2 from Bohm came next. Leonardo almost took Bohm down, but the German fighter defended. Leonardo, however, put Bohm against the fence. Bohm got off the fence and landed an elbow but ate a hard jab. Leonardo landed a nice combo and then clinched Bohm. Leonardo wasn’t doing much with the clinch, just controlling Bohm. Bohm missed a right hand, and then Leonardo went for a combo but didn’t miss. Bohm landed a body kick that hurt Leonardo, but Leonardo clinched immediately to end the round.

Round three started with a combo from Leonardo. A low kick from Bohm. Bohm landed a hard right hand, but Leonardo immediately clinched. Bohm locked up a standing guillotine while on the fence, but Leonardo defended. Just under three minutes left, and the flyweights got back to the center of the octagon but not for long because Leonardo clinched Bohm again. The referee broke the clinch, and the girls got back to exchanging kicks and punches. Bohm landed another body kick and a close elbow. Less than 30 seconds left, and Leonardo landed a takedown to end the fight.

No surprise on the scorecards, as Leonardo had the edge in all three rounds.

A lot of the time, fighters have to make sacrifices to further their career. UFC London’s Mandy Bohm did just that recently.

Bohm returns to the octagon for her second UFC fight this weekend in London, England. It has been over ten months since her UFC debut, and a lot has changed for the German fighter. The biggest and most significant change is Bohm relocating to Las Vegas and training there full-time.

In an exclusive interview with Cageside Press, Bohm revealed why she moved to the fight capital of the world.

“I think the whole European [MMA scene] has a little problem with MMA because yes, MMA is still a growing sport, but especially in Germany, we are still in kid shoes. So, it’s very small, and we don’t have a lot of knowledge,” Bohm said. “And if you look to Vegas, especially Vegas, to Germany, it’s like, there is a universe between. I get the feeling, especially working with the UFC PI [Performance Institute] — there’s so much space. And yeah, that’s the reason why, when we do something, we do it.”

Bohm is training at Xtreme Couture under Eric Nicksick and Dennis Davis. Now, she has several more training partners, something she did not have when training in her home country of Germany.

Because of the lack of elite training, Bohm revealed she wasn’t truly ready for her UFC debut, and on top of that, she suffered the dreaded UFC jitters.

“One thing is the level in Germany, and even if you work hard enough, show up, and everything else is in session— that’s not everything in fighting. It’s about a professional team, about coaches who have experience, who know what you need to have to compete on the highest level in the sport,” Bohm said. “And yeah, I’m grateful for everything. Also, what the team in Germany did for me, I will never forget my roots. But if you have to move on and grow and compete on the highest level, you have to leave your comfort zone, and that is why I moved to Vegas. At least that’s the best place to be, to be honest. But I think the US level is a completely different level.”

Bohm was scheduled to return in March against Sabina Mazo, but she pulled out of the fight with an injury. In hindsight, the German fighter is actually grateful because it gave her time to find the team she was looking for.

“I was always dreaming about the perfect camp and the perfect team…but actually, I injured my knee [earlier] this year [before my] fight with Sabina Mazo. And I’m grateful for this injury because everything happens for a reason,” Bohm said. “That is what I always have in my mind. Yes, at the moment, I was sad. But now I actually get what I really, really wanted and what I’m looking for. It takes time to become a part of the team. I’ve been here for four months, and I met a lot of new people, a lot of highly skilled people. Awesome coaches, really high-level coaches who have the knowledge and know what they are talking from. Yeah, it’s just perfect timing.”

“Monster” feels like she is part of the Xtreme Couture family and is looking to show the world what she has been working on.

While she was hoping to fight in her new home in Las Vegas, London will work because a lot of her family and friends will be there.

Watch the rest of our interview with Mandy Bohm above. Bohm fights Victoria Leonardo on the ESPN + prelims and takes place this Saturday, July 23, 2022 at the O2 Arena in London, England.

Bohm would confirm the booking on her Instagram.

Mazo (9-3) went winless in 2021 after riding a three-fight win streak going into the year. In her bantamweight debut, she lost a dominant unanimous decision to Alexis Davis. The “Colombian Queen” would return to flyweight in October and get submitted to Mariya Agapova. The 24-year old is currently on the first losing streak of her career.

Bohm (7-1) was unsuccessful in her UFC debut as she lost a unanimous decision to Ariane Lipski. The loss to Lipski was the first of her career. The German fighter fought once for Bellator prior to joining the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

The UFC’s March 12, 2022 event does not have an official location, venue, or broadcast plan announced. However, light heavyweight contenders Thiago Santos and Magomed Ankalaev will headline the event.

The Fight Night card currently breaks down as follows:

Thiago Santos vs. Magomed Ankalaev

Guido Cannetti vs. Kris Moutinho

Trevin Jones vs. Javid Basharat

Song Yadong vs. Marlon Moraes

Alex Pereira vs. Bruno Silva

Damon Jackson vs. Josh Culibao

After a week off, the UFC resumed their run at the UFC APEX, and they brought a monster 14-fight card with them. A few fighters saved their jobs, while some might have fought their last fight in the UFC. Anthony Smith came up with another win in his eighth main event, extending his current win streak, and Arman Tsarukyan made a statement. However, what about the losers of UFC Vegas 37? Keep on reading while we play matchmaker.

Ryan Spann

In his first UFC main event, Ryan Spann came up short as he was submitted in the first round. After starting his UFC career on a four-fight win streak, he has now lost two of his last three, and was stopped in both losses. There is no doubt that the ceiling is still high for “Superman,” but he might need to fight someone outside the rankings in his next outing.

Dustin Jacoby is who Spann should fight next. Since returning to the UFC, Jacoby has been on fire and deserves a shot at a top 15 fighter. For Spann, it would also give him a chance to get some revenge on Factory X, which is Anthony Smith’s camp.

Spann’s next fight: Dustin Jacoby

Devin Clark

It was a rough night for “Brown Bear.” Not only did he get pretty much dominated for the entire 15 rounds, but he also got his lower teeth knocked in. However, Devin Clark showed his toughness throughout the fight, which made him stand out to many fans. The loss to Ion Cutelaba is his second loss in row, which is the first losing streak of his career. Clark might also be fighting for his job in his next outing as well. Ed Herman, the longest-tenured fighter on the UFC roster, would be a good fight for Clark next. Herman is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Alonzo Menifield. It might have to come a little further down the line as Clark heals up.

Clark’s next fight: Ed Herman

Mandy Bohm

Mandy Bohm’s UFC debut was spoiled by Ariane Lipski, with the German losing a unanimous decision. The newcomer suffered her first professional loss and while there were glimpses of Bohm’s game; she was mostly shut down by Lipski, who knew her job was on the line. In her next fight, Bohm should fight another Brazilian fighting for her job, Poliana Botelho.

Bohm’s next fight: Poliana Botelho

Christos Giagos

Christos Giagos had a huge opportunity on Saturday to get into the lightweight top 15 rankings and be the second person to defeat Arman Tsarukyan in the UFC. Unfortunately, he didn’t really even get the chance to get started as the Armenian finished him in a little over two minutes. The loss snapped Giagos’ two-fight winning streak. For his next fight, “The Spartan” should fight Matt Frevola, who also lost to Tsarukyan earlier this year.

Giagos’ next fight: Matt Frevola

Tony Gravely

Gravely was a few seconds away from a first-round TKO win; however, the bell saved Nate Maness. Maness regrouped and ended up finishing Gravely via TKO. What a sport we all love. There was a reason the UFC matchmakers kept this fight together because it really was an awesome fight. The loss snapped Gravely’s two fight-win streak and is his third loss in the promotion. Mana Martinez would provide another entertaining match-up for Gravely in his next fight. Martinez is coming off his first UFC win and is a Dana White’s Contender Series alumni like Gravely.

Gravely’s next fight: Mana Martinez

Antonio Arroyo

Arroyo was on his way to a unanimous decision win before he was caught by Joaquin Buckley and knocked out. It has been a tough stretch for the Brazilian, who is on a three-fight losing streak. While I do think there might be a small chance the UFC brass gives him another chance, I believe Arroyo needs to go back to the regional scene or another big promotion.

Arroyo’s next fight: Outside of the UFC

The third of three newcomers at UFC Vegas 37 on Saturday was German flyweight Mandy Bohm. After a couple of false starts with fights falling through last month, she was set to take on Brazil’s “Queen of Violence” Ariane Lipski.

Being honest, Lipski’s run in the UFC thus far has been rough. The former KSW champion felt like a killer coming in, but has posted a 2-4 record to date. She also entered UFC Vegas 37 off back-to-back TKO losses.

Bohm, meanwhile, started the night undefeated, having last fought for Bellator MMA.

A minute into the fight Bohm attempted to throw Lipski but it was Lipski that landed on top. Not much from either woman on the mat before Bohm pushed on the hips and got back to the feet. Lipski stunned Bohm with a right hand and followed up with a flurry forcing Bohm to tie up. Lipski landed some good knees to the body before they separated.

Both girls feeling each other out and using a lot of feints to start round two. Lipski was the first one to land which was a right hand over the top. Lipski threw and landed the right jab to the body while Bohm struggles to put anything together. Bohm continued to get something going in the clinch but Lipski was defensively sound. Thirty seconds left and Lipski dropped Bohm with a right hand off a knee to the body and ended the round on top.

Bohm finally showed a bit of urgency to start round three by throwing a flying knee. Lipski continued to pick apart Bohm at range and counter Bohm when she throws. Off a blind leg kick Lipski countered with a right hook dropping Bohm. She eventually stood up and let Bohm back to the feet. Bohm went for a sloppy takedown so Lipsko sprawled and got the top position back. They end on the feet with both trading knees.

Ariane Lipski def. Mandy Bohm by unanimous decision. (30-27 X3)

UFC Vegas 37 is a massive 15-fight 14-fight card that’s headlined by Anthony Smith and Ryan Spann at light heavyweight. Flyweight Mandy Bohm has been trying to make her UFC debut since early August. After three missed scheduled fights, all of which fell through, she’s set to make her debut here against Ariane Lipski.

Mandy “Monster” Bohm
Standing at 5’6″
Fighting at 125 lbs (flyweight)
32-years-old
Fighting out of Gelsenkirchen, Germany
Training out of MMA Spirit
A pro record of 7-0
2 KO/TKO, 2 Submissions

How will Bohm fare in the UFC:

Bohm first impressed me when she beat Jade Masson-Wong, who I was high on at the time, in 2019. Bohm is a better striker, but all her finishes come on the mat. Her wrestling is decent; she’s better at getting the fight down in the clinch. While is the clinch that’s where Bohm does some of her best work. She’s really good at framing off and landing elbows. Landing while breaking from the clinch she does well too.

When she’s going backwards, Bohm will get into the thai plum and land some good knees. On the mat, Bohm is all about landing short elbows in any position. She’s had big moments in dominant positions landing elbows and winning twice by RNC. I like the German fighter on the feet, but she does have holes. She has a problem keeping her hands too low and her reaction speed is a tad slow. She does have a good snapping jab and will make girls pay when rushing forward. From her preferred distance she’s a fierce fighter— at range she dictates the pace. Still, her striking defense with her hands low, chin high, and the inability to move out of the way will hurt her.

This is a good signing from the UFC. Bohm is going to be a tough one to beat. I even see Bohm cracking at the bottom of the top 15 at some point. I don’t see her having the success against the better girls in the division she but matches up well with a lot of them.

Fighter comparison in the division: Maryna Moroz

Striking: C+
Kickboxing: C+
Clinch: A-
Wrestling: B-
Grappling: C+
Striking Defense: C
Takedown Defense: C+
Cardio: B
Biggest Strength: Clinch
Biggest Weakness: Striking defense

How she matches up with Lipski:

Lipski is one of the biggest busts in recent UFC history. She came into the promotion in 2019 after dominating in Poland’s KSW. However, the Brazilian “Violence Queen” is just 2-4 in the UFC and has dropped her last two. It’s not like Lipski is getting beat in one specific area as she’s coming up short in both striking and grappling. Lipski does have far more experience and has fought much better fighters than Bohm, however, which will make this fight competitive.

Both women like to fight at range and in that I’d favor Bohm, who has a much better jab. Lipski always has problems finding her range and I see it happening again. Bohm has a clear advantage on the mat. Neither has great wrestling but Lipski by far has the substandard takedown defense. I see this being competitive but Bohm edging out a decision.

Böhm confirmed the match-up on social media.

After losing her UFC debut and suffering her first professional loss, Santos (17-1) has looked sensational. She kicked off her 2020 on ‘Fight Island’ by dominating Molly McCann and defeating her via unanimous decision. She would return five months later at UFC Fight Night: Thompson vs. Neal in December and defeat Gillian Roberson, snatching her top 15 ranking in the process.

Böhm (7-0) will be making her debut and be looking to take Santos’ ranking in her first fight. The German fighter is coming off of a win over Griet Eeckhout at Bellator 247 last October. She is undefeated and fights out of SBG Ireland.

No location, venue, or broadcast details have yet to be announced by the promotion for UFC’s August 14 event. There are rumors that the card could be the UFC’s return to London.

UFC Fight Night: Brunson vs. Till currently looks like this:

Darren Till vs. Brunson

Lerone Murphy vs. Charles Jourdain

Molly McCann vs. Ji Yeon Kim

Taila Santos vs. Mandy Böhm
