Szabova (11-0), who also holds flyweight gold in Oktagon, will take on UFC veteran Lucie Pudilova (17-11) at Oktagon 92 on August 1, 2026.

Promotion officials announced the title fight booking in a press release issued on Tuesday.

Slovakia’s “Silent Killer” Szabova won the Oktagon MMA women’s bantamweight championship last August, defeating Cecilie Bolander with punches from mount to claim the first of her two championships. A bout with Leidiane Fernandes for flyweight gold had been booked for February; with Fernandes out due to injury, they instead met in April at Oktagon 87. Once again, Szabova took mount and finished the fight with ground n’ pound.

The 28-year old, who has also competed in Muay Thai and kickboxing, has earned all her professional MMA wins under the Oktagon MMA banner.

Pudilova, a Czech star, had two stints with the UFC: first from 2017 to 2020, and later from 2022 to 2024. She returned to Oktagon MMA in in September 2024 and has posted a 3-1 record since, with victories in her last two outings. Most recently, she earned a unanimous decision win over fellow veteran Katharina Lehner back in January.

Oktagon 92 on August 1 takes place in Prague, Czech Republic at the Central Tennis Court Štvanice.

The night’s main event saw the promotion’s vacant featherweight title on the line, as Niko Samsonide of Georgia took on Austria’s Mago Machaev. With challengers like Gjoni Palokaj already lining up, whoever came away with the undisputed title would be looking at a busy 2026.

Heavyweight action, meanwhile, saw former title challenger Lazar Todev taking on UFC vet Josh Parisian. Todev was battling his second straight UFC alum, and two wins over two notable names would help his case for another crack against double-champ Will Fleury.

Also in action, Lucie Pudilova, who had contested unsuccessfully for the inaugural Oktagon women’s bantamweight title just over a year ago. She was looking for her second straight victory, this time taking on former Invicta FC title challenger Katharina Lehner.

After losing a close split decision to Bolander, Czech Republic’s Pudilova was looking to earn a win over the well-traveled Brittney Cloudy, an Invicta FC, KOTC, and LFA veteran.

The win might just be the ticket to another shot at gold for Pudilova, given her career series with Bolander remains tied at 1-1. Unbeaten lightweight prospect Fedor Duric was also set to compete at Oktagon 69, paired up with Predrag Bogdanović, who had a massive experience edge in the main card fight.

Across a pair of fights in 2024, Pudilova and Bolander fought to a pair of split decisions, Pudlova winning the first, and Bolander evening the series in the second. While a trilogy fight feels likely, for now, Pudilova has been paired up with the well-traveled Brittney Cloudy, who has competed for King of the Cage, LFA, Invicta FC, and even Karate Combat.

“I think Brittney’s a good boxer, so I think this fight will be very, very good, very good for fans, because I think we will show good technique,” Pudilova (15-11) told Cageside Press in an exclusive interview ahead of the fight. “So I’m excited for this.”

While she wasn’t prepared to give away any secrets about her game plan, Pudilova is hoping to be able to finish the fight. “I hope for this, I have in my mind a few ways to finish this fight.”

As for Cloudy’s experience- she’s shared the cage with UFC women’s flyweight contender Erin Blanchfield, and is coming off two straight wins in MMA, Pudilova downplayed it. Despite being the more experienced fighter of the two.

“I feel like experience, it’s not helpful. I feel like helpful is patience, who wants to win more, something like this,” she suggested. “Who will want it more, wins.”

Despite getting a fresh face at Oktagon 69 this Saturday, Pudilova still expects the trilogy fight with Bolander to come in the near future. “I think so, we will fight soon again,” she said, suggesting it would be “bad for her.”

Lucie Pudilova does believe she won that second fight with Bolander, which was for the Oktagon MMA women’s flyweight title. “I feel like winner, and also many people, like good people, big MMA persons, text me [saying] they think the same about this.”

Alluding to family issues before that second fight, Pudilova admits she wasn’t hungry enough. “Now I feel like, every day I work on my mind. I try to be stronger, so I feel more stronger, more hungry.”

Carolina came into the fight on the best run of her UFC career, having won two fights convincingly in a row, one by finish. With a 5-3 promotional record in tow, she faced the Czech Republic’s Pudilova. Lucie is 1-2 in this, her second stint with the UFC, but most agree she deserved the decision two fights ago against Joselyne Edwards. Either way, she knew coming in that if she lost to her Brazilian opponent she would be in danger of losing her job, but that did not matter to Carolina.

When the fight began Carolina initially danced around the outside as Pudilova stalked her, but more and more Luana began to sit down on her punches as the round went on. Halfway through the round Lucie’s face was red. She tried to clinch up and perhaps wrestle but Carolina defended and sliced open her foe’s eye on the break with an elbow. Luana then clinched up herself but was unable to get the takedown, but she still hurt Pudilova with dirty boxing and another elbow, although the Czech fighter landed a takedown in the final five seconds to end the round on top.

Carolina picked up where she left off when round two started, controlling the distance with kicks and damaging Pudilova with punches. Lucie landed a good left of her own one minute in, however, and Luana clinched up, then landed yet another slicing elbow on the break. For the rest of the round Carolina won the striking and attacked with her Muay Thai clinch skills whenever in the clinch. Pudilova shot a late takedown which was stuffed but did allow her to land a hard elbow of her own. In the end, it would be Pudilova’s best round.

Round three was largely more of the same. Carolina outstruck Pudilova for the entire round, relying even more on kicks this round, which her opponent had no answer for. Pudilova was game until the end, aggressively going forward and trying to find answers in both the wrestling and striking, but she had none. Even her takedown with one minute left was not enough, as she could not do much damage on top, whereas Luana had been doing damage for the preceding four minutes.

When the judges’ scorecards were read there were no surprises, as all three judges scored the bout for Carolina, one of them giving her all three rounds.

Pudilova was looking for the second win of her second stint, after winning her return then losing to Joselyne Edwards earlier this year. But things went south for the Czech fighter early, with Perez getting her down care of a throw. The Argentinian quickly moved to mount, and spent a good deal of time there while Pudilova tried to tie her up. What Pudilova could not do was shake Ailin Perez off of her. Instead, the round would end with Perez on top, and Pudilova showing some swelling around one eye.

Round two saw a little more action on the feet. But ahead of the midway mark of the frame, Perez again had Pudilova on her back. And once again she was quickly able to move to mount, with Pudilova struggling to do more than tie her up. Perez looked to posture up and drop elbows, with Lucie Pudilova responding by trying to buck the Argentinian off of her. No dice, and Perez began pouring down the ground n’ pound, looking for a stoppage. Despite Perez glancing at the ref, as if to ask when that stoppage would come, she had to fight on, as not enough was getting through. Pudilova held on to her opponent, and weathered the storm, but was slow to get up at the end of the round.

The third round saw Pudilova flip the script, getting the fight down herself early on. She could not keep Perez down however. Lucie Pudilova would get a second chance, however, and land it, taking advantage of a tiring Ailin Perez. Pudilova managed to do considerable damage on top, dropping as

Edwards had come in just half a pound shy of the bantamweight limit for the fight, which saw her coming in on a two-fight win streak.

Pudilova herself had won three straight, including her UFC return against Wu Yanan at UFC 278 last year. The Czech fighter had gone 2-5 with the promotion from 2017 to 2020, but was 6-1 since.

An active start to Edwards vs. Pudilova found Panama City’s Edwards getting the better an early exchange. Pudilova then shot for a takedown, which was stuffed; Edwards connected with a knee to the body in the clinch. After creating some space, Pudilova then landed the desired takedown — moving into half-guard. She couldn’t do much with it; later in the round, she had the chance to jump on Edward’s back along the fence. But Edwards scrambled out, and got her hands going again. Round one saw Edwards doing more damage, while Pudilova had the edge on the ground.

Round two started with another Pudilova takedown being stuffed, following which Edwards fired a couple of low kicks, then mixed things up and went to the body. Pudilova would land a takedown just under two minutes in, and eventually worked to side control. The ref admonished the Czech bantamweight for not being active enough, despite improving her position.

Edwards would give up her back as Pudilova passed to mount. From there, Pudilova worked to flatten her opponent out, but she was too high up the back to catch Edwards in a choke. Edwards rolled, however, returning to her back, opening the door for Pudilova to land some smashing elbows, which is how the round ended.

The third and final frame opened with a bit of a slower pace initially. Eventually Pudilova put Edwards on the fence, firing knees to the thigh. Edwards would reverse, only for Pudilova to turn them back around again. Pudilova landed off the break.

The clock was now a factor for Edwards. But just as she appeared to get going off an exchange of kicks, Pudilova clinched up. Ultimately, Edwards just couldn’t find the space necessary to get her striking going, and it went to the judges — who served up the first surprise of the night. To a chorus of boos, Joselyne Edwards was announced the winner of a split decision, a fairly questionable result given Edwards’ inability to get her striking going.

On the surface it seems that the obvious next fight for the second British champion in UFC history would be the rubber match for all the marbles against Kamaru Usman, but it may not be that simple. ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ just brutally suffered his first knockout loss, is thirty-five years of age, and has discussed at length the severe knee issues he has. Will the champ want to come back soon enough for his timeline to line up with that of the new champ, who says he wants to fight in early 2022? Could he even potentially retire?

In three weeks’ time, Khamzat Chimaev fights Nate Diaz in a non-title fight PPV main event. Khamzat is maybe the hottest prospect in the UFC at the moment and if Usman is to sit out for any extended duration then a win against Nate would almost guarantee him the coveted title shot. It is borderline impossible, however, to pick anyone else other than Kamaru Usman to get the next title shot. A trilogy bout with both men having won one of the previous fights is a scenario that time and time again has generated the highest stakes of all in combat sports. Still, life makes no guarantees and combat makes even fewer.

Paulo Costa

Paulo Costa got back in the win column against middleweight legend Luke Rockhold on Saturday. The Fight of the Night performance puts him back into contention for another run at the belt and so it is surely time for him to once again fight a top ten ranked contender. Many big fights are upcoming at 185-lbs, from Whittaker versus Vettori, to the title fight of Adesanya versus Pereira, to the recently announced October main event that is Sean Strickland versus Jared Cannonier. Both of those last two are coming off of losses and hust like Paulo Costa will be looking to reestablish their push towards the belt, making the winner of that fight the perfect choice to face ‘Borrachina’ in the near future.

Either bout has intrigue. Cannonier and Costa are two of the hardest hitters in the division and the fight could end at any time if the two were to meet. Fans, however, also love exciting verbal rivalries. Both Costa and Strickland have made names for themselves as athletes who have no filter and are entertaining both on the mic and on social media. A press conference featuring the two would surely generate a lot of interest, to say the least, like the heated simultaneous video interview Costa and Marvin Vettori did last year just before their bout.

Merab Dvalishvili

Merab Dvalishvili’s win over legend Jose Aldo extended the Georgian wrestler’s winning streak to eight, but likely did little to advance his cause for a title shot given Dana White’s somewhat disparaging post-fight comments. It may not matter though as he has discussed going down to flyweight so as to avoid fighting his close friend, champion Aljamain Sterling, though that decision may depend on the result of the upcoming Sterling vs Dillashaw title fight. For now we will, however, operate under the assumption that Merab will not undertake that gruelling weight cut and will remain at the division he has always competed in.

With that in mind there are quite a few upcoming bouts that will affect the booking of this fight. In the near future Petr Yan will fight Sean O’Malley and Cory Sandhagen squares off against Song Yadong for a fight night main event. If O’Malley wins against Yan the UFC will likely push him into a title shot but if Yan wins then a bout against Dvalishvili could make sense. However the winner of Sandhagen vs Yadong makes sense as an opponent no matter who wins and would be an interesting style clash at between wrestler and striker.

Lucie Pudilova

Lucie Pudilova spent some time outside of the UFC after her first stint ended with a four fight losing streak to top flight opposition. Still, many fans with good memories will remember her for almost beating Alexa Grasso in an absolute war back in 2018. Her return in a big spot on the UFC 278 main card was one to remember for the Czech fighter as she dominated Wu Yanan before getting the finish with brutal ground and pound in the second round. She must still start from the lower end of the division and work her way up. Given that, Poliana Botelho is a logical fight for her as the Brazilian looks to turn her luck around and Pudilova looks to continue her forward momentum.

Tyson Pedro

The Samoan-Australian light-heavyweight Tyson Pedro continued his comeback tour with a lightning-fast stoppage win over Harry Hunsucker due to punches followed by a vicious teep to the liver. After four years out due to serious injury it is good to see the exciting prospect get his momentum back. Now is the time for a step up in competition and towards the rankings against a foe like the former PFL HW champion Philipe Lins. Lins recently stepped into the waters at LHW seeking to change things up after a rocky 0-2 start in the UFC’s heaviest division. In April of this year he was able to get his first win in the promotion against Marcin Prachnio. Both Pedro and Lins have well-rounded skill sets, finishing ability, and top-15 potential. This match-up could be considered a ‘ranked fight eliminator’ with the winner getting a lower end ranked opponent.

In her time away, Pudilova posted a 5-1 record under the Oktagon MMA banner, and showed a vastly improved skill set in her fight against China’s Wu Yanan on Saturday. In the end, she earned her first UFC win in four years, care of a TKO finish brought about by some nasty elbows.

“I feel amazing. This fight was very hard,” Pudilov said following the bout, speaking to media outlets including Cageside Press. The bantamweight admitted to having a slow start, something she attributed to the pressure of her return. “I feel a little bit of pressure because I was back in the UFC. It’s amazing, and I really wanted to show the best from me. It was hard, yeah. Then I feel better after two, three minutes.”

During her time away, Pudilova was always driven to make it back to the big show. “Yeah, I always wanted to go back to the UFC,” she stated.

As for what comes next for the Czech fighter, there’ll be some celebration with her team, SBG Ireland. “Tonight I want to go with my team, we go for a party, and then we will be thinking about a fight.”
