Both brothers have gone into boxing with Jake being the one of the two to try and make it a career. He’s gone 11-1 with his lone loss coming at the hands of Tommy Fury. He holds wins over UFC greats Anderson Silva, Nate Diaz and Tyron Woodley.

Last time out he took a decision victory over a 58-year-old Mike Tyson. The fight was criticized from the moment it was announced to weeks after the actual match itself. Fans, fighters and media all wondering why Paul fought a much older and way past his prime Tyson instead of taking on someone currently relevant in boxing.

Logan meanwhile has dabbled in boxing himself with exhibitions against Floyd Mayweather and Dillon Danis. His only legit boxing match was a loss to Olajide Olatunji who beat him by split decision. Outside of that he’s mainly been involved with WWE as a wrestler, and with the many entrepreneurial avenues he’s involved in including crypto, kids food, and sports drinks.

Fans had been asking to see the two get into the boxing ring for years, but neither brother truly entertained it.

Until now.

“I’m OK with fighting my brother because I wouldn’t have to be the one that dealt with losing. Seriously. Emotionally, if that would scar him, then he shouldn’t do it,” Paul told All The Smoke Fight.

“But if he’s going to sign up, I don’t have to be the one to lose.”

Nothing has been officially confirmed as of now.

A proposed exhibition boxing match between Conor McGregor and Logan Paul, to have taken place in India later this year, is dead.

McGregor, the former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion, revealed to The Schmo in a recent interview that the MMA powerhouse had served as a roadblock to the fight actually taking place. Calling the bout a “glorified spar,” McGregor stated that the promotion simply wasn’t interested, despite both athletes falling under the TKO Group banner.

“It is what it is. The UFC just aren’t into it.” McGregor told media personality “The Schmo.” The Irish star had been on hand as part of the promotion for BKFC KnuckleMania V. “I had, the offer was there on the table, in writing. Both athletes [Jake and Logan Paul] will say, ‘He’s not fighting,’ but both athletes [McGregor and Logan Paul] are under the TKO banner. UFC, WWE both rising up. The stock price of TKO Holding Ground is through the roof. New market in India opened up and booming. It was business savvy, and business sense to make the fight happen. Or, should I say, the glorified spar happen.

“And in between this waiting period that we find ourselves in before I can get back to the octagon, it made perfect sense on the calendar to go ahead with it. The UFC weren’t into it. I’m not sure, the WWE, what their interest in it was. I just knew the UFC weren’t into it. And what’s his name, Logan, he just kept quiet, didn’t say nothing.”

The UFC has historically prevented its athletes from competing outside the company, aside from grappling matches. The exception came when Conor McGregor faced Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a pro boxing match in 2017.

According to the report McGregor and Paul will take face each other in an exhibition boxing match in Mumbai as part of India’s “Visit India” campaign.

The purse is said to be a whopping $250 million prize for each fighter paid out by the Ambani family dynasty. The family’s networth is reportedly up to $90 billion.

McGregor took to social media to send a mysterious repost seemingly confirming the booking.

I will then seek my return to the Octagon.”

McGregor (22-6 MMA) has not stepped foot in the UFC octagon since 2021. He suffered a leg injury against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. He’s only had one serious comeback attempt which was to be a matchup with Michael Chandler at UFC 303, but McGregor broke his toe.

UFC CEO Dana White has said publicly that he does not expect McGregor to back until late 2025. Seems like McGregor is attempting a boxing match while he waits. His last boxing match was in 2017 against Floyd Mayweather.

Mayweather finished McGregor via TKO in the 10th round.

At least one Paul noticed the post and responded.

Conor is washed. Needs the Paul’s. Logan by however he wants.”

This all comes on the heels of McGregor being found liable in Irish civil court of sexual assault. Proper 12 dropped him as a spokesperson and several Irish and UK grocery chains removed any products connected to McGregor from shelves.

On top of all of that some brands have decided to distance themselves from McGregor including popular video game Hitman.

It’s unclear whether the UFC will be willing to allow McGregor box Logan Paul. White has said he’s not a fan of allowing fighters to jump into other combat sports avenues, but did it once for McGregor.

Now we wait.

After a controversy-riddled build up to match their controversy-laden careers, Logan Paul and Dillon Danis finally faced off on Saturday in the co-main event of Misfits Boxing: The PRIME Card, in a bout that Logan Paul won with ease.

Danis, a former grappling phenom turned professional internet troll, competed professionally for the first time since 2019, and in boxing for the first time at all, against one of the biggest internet celebrities ever. Logan Paul has two boxing fights under his belt, losing to KSI (the pair also faced off as amateurs), who headlined this Misfits card, in 2019. His other fight was an exhibition bout against Floyd Mayweather in 2021 which was technically ruled a draw, though that was only because it went the distance and there was no judging for the match. Despite having an actual combat sports background, Danis was a huge underdog given his grappling base, inactivity, and the apparent athleticism disparity.

With a visible cut on his face from being hit by Danis with a microphone on Friday, Paul came out looking like the much larger fighter. Danis walked towards him with a high guard raised and did not punch until they were in the clinch. Logan had trouble breaking through that high guard but did poke at the body with his jab and straight right. Nothing major happened in the first round, though Danis got cautioned for excessive clinch punching after being told to break, a byproduct of his clear gameplay to wear out Paul.

The second round saw Logan start by just using Danis like a punching bag as Dillon did not throw back any strikes of his own. Some got deflected but some got through. Logan calmed down a bit after that and paced himself for the rest of the round until he had Danis hurt with 30 seconds left. Paul landed a left hand first and then a right that had Danis on wobbly legs. Logan swarmed him but was unable to put Danis down and he slowed his pace right before the bell so he did not get tired.

With Logan likely up two rounds to none, the third round was big. However, Danis once again did not put up much of a fight. Logan was able to throw whatever he wanted as Danis barely let his hands go ever, just walked around with his guard up. Logan landed some good body shots late and clearly won the round again, though Danis finally landed a right in the closing seconds.

Danis threw hands finally at the start of a round in round four and landed a right hand. He was more open than in previous rounds after that, but still was largely on the defensive. Logan’s pace slowed and he danced around the ring more as he began to tire, but he did end the round with a flurry. Paul likely won the round, but it was closer than the others. To that point in the fight Logan had landed eighty-two punches to only nine for Dillon Danis.

The penultimate round saw Logan walk down Danis from the start and unload on him with big clubbing blows when he cornered him, only stopping when Danis fired back to get out of the corner. Ariel Helwani, on commentary for the fight, speculated that Danis only wants to survive to a decision to have a moral victory for his online persona. Logan comfortably saw out the round with smart movement and periodic attacks as Danis did not throw at all.

Logan wailed on Danis at the start of the sixth and final round, his blows got through the guard only partially. Still, Dillon refused to fight back, refusing to allow chances for him to get knocked out and become a meme online, as the commentary pointed out. Danis tried to have a viral moment when he shot for a takedown on Logan Paul, but he could not even take him down. The referee took a point away and Logan swarmed Danis when the fight resumed. He rained down blows but Danis still would not go away and survived to the final horn.

After the fight ended, Danis refused to stop and began to throw punches at security that entered the ring, starting a huge brawl which took ages to separate. When order was finally restored it was announced that Logan had not won a decision, but rather received the nod by disqualification for Danis’ antics. In his post-fight interview, Paul called out Conor McGregor, and added he had forgiven Danis for his pre-fight antics ahead of the fight, though he was highly critical of the BJJ star’s performance in the ring.

Official Result: Logan Paul def. Dillon Danis by Disqualification, Round 6

If you were at all entertained by the circus that Logan Paul and Dillon Danis brought to town in the build-up to their Misfits Boxing match, the showdown finally arrived on Saturday.

It was easy enough to forget that Paul and Danis were not the headliners of what was being called The PRIME Card, after the sports drink launched by now WWE star Logan Paul and fellow social media star KSI. They stole most of the thunder, with KSI vs. Tommy Fury a distant second. That was thanks in part to Danis, who plagued Paul and fiancee Nina Agdal, going so far as to release images that Agdal, now suing the jiu-jitsu star turned boxer, claims are revenge porn, and which Danis insists were already publicly available on the internet.

That court battle will wait, the battle in the ring arrives on Saturday, as Danis makes his boxing debut against Paul, who has dabbled in the sport in matches with Floyd Mayweather Jr. and KSI. To add to the promotional “flair,” Paul brought disgraced former NBC personality Chris Hansen to a press event in the past week, and BJJ star Gordan Ryan to weigh-ins, admittedly as protection. That, after Paul and Danis exchanged blows, or more accurately throws, on stage in a scene that saw Paul cut when Danis hit him with a microphone. The water bottle thrown by Paul, that sparked the altercation, did far less damage, so score one for Danis, who is a heavy underdog in the actual bout.

In short, ladies and gents, the circus is in town, one night only, October 14, 2023, live from Manchester, England. Full results from the social media-laden card can be found below. Prelims can be viewed free below, while the main card is available via DAZN PPV. It all kicks off at 2PM ET.

Darren Till thinks Conor McGregor is done fighting, we get word on when PFL fighters will show up in the USADA athlete test history database, and Logan Paul vs. Dillon Danis / KSI vs. Tommy Fury has a press conference that turned out to be a fiasco. It’s your Sunday MMA Quick Hits for August 27, 2023!

PFL athletes will show in USADA athlete test history ahead of 2024 season

PFL fighters don’t show in the USADA athlete test history at the moment, but that should change by the time the 2024 season rolls around.

Multiple sources confirmed to Cageside Press recently that while the Professional Fighters League had brought in the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency ahead of the 2023 Playoffs, testing appeared to be limited at best. Additionally, no PFL athletes appeared in USADA’s Athlete Test History, an online, searchable database that shows how many times an athlete has been tested, and when.

That won’t be the case too much longer. USADA officials confirmed to Cageside Press this past week that “As the overall program is brand new and currently being built and rolled out, like our other programs, we will be posting testing numbers once the functionality is finalized likely at the beginning of next season.”

As the program ramps up, PFL athletes will be subject to out-of-competition testing, blood testing, urinalysis, and all elements of the drug testing regimene that fight fans will no doubt be familiar with due to the UFC also employing the anti-doping body.

UAE Warriors 43: Arabia sees double champ crowned

Welterweight Wisem Hammami has become the first ever UAE Warriors Africa & Arabia champion care of a first round TKO finish in a rematch with Badreddine Diani on Friday at UFC Warriors 43: Arabia. Hammami picked up the win in pair’s first meeting last year, and replicated that feat to improve to 8-1 as a pro the second time around. His only loss came to Brian Hooi, a Dutch striker who has competed for Bellator and KSW.

Darren Till thinks Conor McGregor is done fighting

Darren Till, now a former UFC fighter, believes Irish superstar Conor McGregor is done fighting.

Till espoused this belief while speaking to U.K. outlet SportsLens.

“Conor’s never coming back, in my opinion,” Till told the outlet (h/t MMA Fighting). “Conor’s struggling to let go. He doesn’t want to let it go. But it’s time to let go. He’s older, he doesn’t train like he used to. He’s got the money and his beautiful kids, and the only problem is that he just does not want to let it go. There’s going to come a day where he realizes he’s fighting with himself and has to let go.

“Every recording on Twitter he’s just drunk as f*** and I’m just crying my eyes out laughing at him. It will take him a while, but he’ll find his peace. My opinion of Conor is you have to respect what he’s done, but it’s time to let go. He’s struggling to let go.”

McGregor is widely believed to be facing fellow The Ultimate Fighter 31 coach Michael Chandler next, with a date as soon as December possible. If not, UFC President Dana White has suggested early 2024 as the landing date for the fight.

Worst Press Conference Ever?

There are bad press conferences. Jake Paul vs. Nate Diaz (any of them) weren’t great. Recent UFC pressers have been dull and featured too many fans asking asinine questions in the hopes of going viral. Then there was whatever this Logan Paul vs. Dillon Danis fiasco was. Prime bottles thrown, a Danis-shaped cake, John Fury flipping a table… all this for a fight that probably won’t even happen, and won’t be any good if it does happen.

It was also promoting KSI vs. Tommy Fury, another fight that probably doesn’t need to happen. How will this be different, or better, than Fury vs. Jake Paul?

We make it a rule not to drag fighters here — they’re the pros, after all — and to stick to constructive criticism. But does anyone want this fight? Logan Paul, barely a boxer and now better known as a WWE wrestler, versus Dillon Danis, best known for his BJJ, in a boxing match? Perhaps. More likely, probably not.

Danis, 29, was last seen in a fight of any sort at Bellator 222 where he submitted Max Humphrey.

Since then he’s booked and pulled out of a boxing match with KSI, attempted to pick fights with MMA twitter personalities, but has yet to actually take part in an event.

Paul meanwhile will enter the ring for the first time since competing against Floyd Mayweather in June 2021. Since that boxing match he’s taken part in multiple WWE events, partnered with KSI on Prime Energy Drinks, and take part in multiple other ventures.

“I couldn’t care less what Logan Paul has done in the WWE, because when he is in the boxing ring, he is in a completely different world.

Welcome to your belated, truncated, abbreviated, but hopefully still appreciated Sunday MMA Quick Hits! Nick Diaz, Nate Diaz, and Elon Musk news is on deck. Let’s go!

Elon Musk says cage fight with Mark Zuckerberg to stream on <del>Twitter</del> X

Elon Musk continues to push a potential mixed martial arts bout with Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg, despite how much we wish he wouldn’t. The fight, which is highly unlikely to ever happen and even less likely to be any good, has been talked about for weeks now. Fuelled in part by Zuckerberg competing in jiu-jitsu, and Musk, who heads up Tesla, Space X, The Boring Company, and now Twitter, never shutting up about it.

The latest update: Musk claims the event will stream on X with the proceeds going to charity.

Zuck v Musk fight will be live-streamed on 𝕏.

All proceeds will go to charity for veterans.

— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) August 6, 2023

The only way this becomes even mildly entertaining is if Zuck turns out to be an imposter, WWE style, then someone runs in and cracks Musk with a chair. And even that might not be enough to get us to tune in.

Nate Diaz willing to fight Jake or Logan Paul

The Diaz brothers have never been ones to turn down fights. So after Nate Diaz dropped a decision against Jake Paul on Saturday, brother Nick is willing to step up and fight for the family’s honor.

Nick Diaz wants into the ring following his brother's fight against Jake Paul. #PaulDiaz pic.twitter.com/Jt9O4Mfd2k

— Cageside Press (@Cagesidepress) August 6, 2023

“I’m a lot better than both of these guys that are out there. I’d love to entertain the idea of moving on in on whoever they’ve got for me. So if they want to do Round 2 [versus Jake], if [Nate] ain’t going to do it, I’ll take it. [Jake’s] got an older brother too, so don’t forget about the one and only.”

So there you have it. Nick Diaz is down to face either Jake Paul or Logan Paul. Yay?

For everyone other than Jake Paul, this is a terrible idea. Logan is under contract to the WWE, and if your name isn’t Brock Lesnar, you probably aren’t moonlighting in combat sports. As for Jake, he’s built his business model off beating aging, undersized mixed martial artists in a boxing ring. That includes Ben Askren (welterweight, off hip surgery and best known as a wrestler), Tyron Woodley (welterweight, best known as a wrestler with some power), Anderson Silva (a middleweight who can actually box, but was 47), and Nate Diaz (best known as a lightweight turned welterweight). Not one of them come close to Paul’s actual size, and all are handicapped in boxing, where they’re unable to use their full skill set.

So let’s add Nick Diaz, who looked wildly out of place in his last fight opposite Robbie Lawler?

Nate Diaz wants Paul rematch, in any sport

Well, maybe not badminton. But Nate Diaz is down to rematch Jake Paul in MMA or boxing, it seems.

“Right now we’re going to go home and we’re going to talk about it, and we’re going to figure out whether we want to do MMA or boxing, and then we’ll see what they want to do,” Diaz said (h/t MMA Fighting) following Saturday’s boxing match, which saw Paul win a decision. “They said they wanted to do the PFL thing, and I think that if we want to do that, we’re going to have to co-promote and do Real Fight vs. PFL, and I’m with that. But my goal is to get a rematch in any art.”

“We’re going to see what happens with him, see if he really wants to do that,” Diaz added. “If not, I’ll be back in this hunting him down too. Either way is fine with me.”

Dana White isn’t willing to say never when it comes to Jake Paul joining the UFC, Tim Elliott defends cheating in a fight, and UFC fighter pay is in the spotlight after Endeavor’s latest earnings call. It’s your Sunday MMA Quick Hits. Let’s get to it!

If You Ain’t Cheating You Ain’t Trying

Putting aside the fact that our mothers would curse us for using “ain’t” in any sort of published article, this Tim Elliott story is something we didn’t get to, and we really should have.

Elliott was accused of grabbing the gloves of opponent Tagir Ulanbekov at UFC 272, and instead of denying what was blatantly caught on camera, Elliott owned it.

“At the end of the day, if Tagir would’ve beat me, nobody would’ve said sh*t about the glove grab, nobody would’ve said anything about the cheating. The only reason why people are upset about the glove grab sh*t is because they lost,” he told MMA Fighting recently. “His team lost and it just makes them look bad. They wouldn’t have said anything about anything had they won, so it’s just one of those things.”

“If you’ve ever been in a fight — and maybe I’m different — I’m trying to win, man. It’s the referee’s job to step in there if I’m doing something wrong. He was telling me all kinds of sh*t, he told me to let go of the glove and I let go of the glove. But for me, it’s not that big of a deal. I’m in there fist fighting. People are going on and on about the morality of the sport and the warrior spirit and all of that bullsh*t, but I don’t f*cking care. I’m not a martial artist — I’m a fighter and this is my job. I’m trying to make money at this job, and that’s what I did [at UFC 272].”

Paging Scott Coker: Elon Musk vs. Vladimir Putin is the Freakshow Fight We Deserve

After Elon Musk took to Twitter to challenge Vladimir Putin to a fight with the fate of Ukraine in the balance, the social media network was quick to alert Dana White.

They picked the wrong promoter.

I hereby challenge
Владимир Путин
to single combat

Stakes are Україна

— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) March 14, 2022

This is exactly the sort of fight Scott Coker should be in charge of. After all, he gave us Kimbo Slice vs. Ken Shamrock, not to mention Rampage Jackson vs. Fedor Emelianenko. Plus, thanks to his working relationship with Fedor, he has an in with Putin.

Not sure how this fight would go down. Putin allegedly has a background in Judo, but he’s also nearly two full decades older than Musk. With luck, Musk would just run him over with a Tesla.

Oh, and this sort of challenge essentially makes light of the thousands of deaths Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has caused, but that goes without saying.

Dana White Not Entirely Opposed to Jake Paul Fighting in UFC

Well, file this under “things we thought we’d never hear until hell froze over.” In fact, someone do a quick temperature check in the underworld, please.

Appearing on Logan Paul’s podcast, UFC President White suggested that he wasn’t entirely opposed to Jake Paul fighting in the UFC at some point.

“I’m never completely closed off to anything,” White told the podcast. “I used to say that about things, but I don’t say that anymore, because you never know. You never know what could happen.”

Okay, so it’s a far cry from “I’d love to see Jake Paul in the octagon,” but it’s still more than we expected.

Jake Paul Responds to White’s Weight Class Comments

On that very same podcast appearance, White noted that the idea of Paul fighting Conor McGregor was out of the question, due to the size difference. Paul has competed as a boxer at cruiserweight, generally weighing in just north of 190 pounds. McGregor is best known as a featherweight and lightweight in MMA (145 and 155 pounds, respectively), with a couple of welterweight fights (170 pounds) against fellow lightweights who opted to forgo a weight cut.

“He shouldn’t even be fighting Conor McGregor,” White said. “These guys are f*cking huge. He’s huge, his brother is huge. What’s your brother, 6-foot-1, 210 [pounds]? Conor McGregor is 145, 155 pounds.”

“There’s weight classes for a reason,” White later added. Even Logan Paul admitted his brother couldn’t make 170.

Jake had his own take.

“Dana White is begging for [Nate] Diaz and Conor to fight for a third time,” Paul responded on social media. “They have fought at 170 pounds in both their fights. I will fight Conor at 175 pounds, no problem. Stop making excuses p*ssy.”

Ari Emmanuel Defends UFC Fighter Pay, Claims It’s Up 600%

Speaking of Paul, he was name-dropped on a recent Endeavor (parent company of UFC) earnings call.

Brandon Ross of Lightshed Partners brought up the subject.

“UFC fighter comp and benefits have become a real hot topic of conversation lately. I know that’s been elevated by Jake Paul,” Ross said on the call. “I was just wondering if you could give your perspective on why the overall split have ended up where they are and what your outlook is there, whether we should expect relative share that fighters are getting of that revenue pool to go up in time or stay kind of where it is.”

Emmanuel, after checking with Endeavor CFO Jason Lublin, claimed “We’ve increased fighter pay… …Six hundred percent since 2005. So — and we’re investing in the business with Performance Institute, food, recovery. So we have done— and now participation in Dapper Labs and NFTs in the kits. So we think we’ve done very, very well.”

“And as the revenue for the business increases has only benefited that business, and we’ve grown and the sport has grown and fighter pay has grown too, as I said, how much it’s gone up since 2005.”

That would be great and all if not for the reality that an entry level fighter in the UFC makes $12,000 to show and another $12,000 to win, so if they fight twice in their first year and lose both fights, they’re stuck with $24,000 and lose a huge chunk of that to taxes, gym fees, travel expenses, and other costs.

Not to mention, Endeavor bought just over a 50% stake in the UFC in 2016 for 4.3 billion USD, then later purchased the company outright. It hasn’t been in control of the UFC since 2005, so no, Endeavor has not raised fighter pay 600% since then. An interesting question is how much fighter pay has gone up in the Endeavor era, and whether that has been top heavy, going to be biggest stars, while the rest of the promotion fights — almost literally — for scraps.
